So at the minimum that would be 65,000 tickets, or the maximum would be 113,750. There was a special pair ticket that was ¥2100, but that’s only ¥100 less than buying an adult and child ticket separately so that shouldn’t change things much.

I guess Monday for RoF was very likely 80,000+ tickets. That won’t be as big as if it opened on Monday I guess, but it’s something to go off.

Broly ticket prices are ¥1400 for regular, and ¥900 for a child.
Well also bare in mind that the 3D and 4DX showing will drive that average up as well, the best indication is this...Resurrection F made ¥960,600,000 million opening weekend and it sold 715,000 tickets, so that works out at ¥1,343 on average. I think that average may have increased slightly this time around but I'll assume it's the same for now.

Otherwise, Resurrection F made about ¥1.05 billion in it's first three days (Sat-Mon) so of course we want a good amount more for this movie between (Fri-Sun).
Yes ofcourse! So RoF, working on that average ticket price, would’ve sold roughly 67,760. Hopefully DBSB does amazing tomorrow.

So today has come mostly to a close, at an estimate I'd say it sold about 160,000-170,000 tickets on opening day which based on the average ticket price for the Resurrection F movie would be about ¥215-230 million (about $2 million) but could be even more yet. Resurrection F sold about 360,000-370,000 tickets on opening day but again that was a Saturday.

There will be a better comparison to be made tomorrow, Saturday will be a much bigger day than today as well.

The only other comparison I could make is that it sold about 62.4% of the tickets that this years Detective Conan movie did on opening Friday.

That would be Paragus.

Broly has always been very popular in japan. He got 3 movies, a 4d experience and is in every fanmanga/video game + Merch everywhere.

This has everything to do with Friday release compared to Saturday

Fri(Final) - 119833 (65~70% of the market). The total would be as mentioned above around 160-170k. That recovered pretty well.

Oh, and majority of the moviegoers seem to be working men. No surprises there. This more than anything should prove where DB's actual fanbase lies.

So even though Saturday has merely begun in Japan it shouldn't take more than an update or two to get a good read on how it's going to perform.

For Resurrection F, that movie had sold roughly 45,000 tickets by 10am, Saturday, opening day.

Even though today is Broly's second day, if it could succeed that figure then that would be a good sign. It's 8am now so I'll let you know in a couple hours.

As of 11am, it's sold around 60,000 tickets. That's almost three times what it had sold by this time yesterday.

It doesn't appear to be as high as Resurrection F's opening day though as that was around 70,000 tickets sold by this point but these are just estimates and the day is young.

Quick guess I'd say it's made around ¥300 million+ so far.

I have a feeling that even if it doesn’t do as well in Japan it will still exceed ROF overall with International sales.

Crazy. Broly not beating F would be baffling just given the increased popularity of Dragon Ball in Japan since 2015.

Hoping the opening weekend number paints a better picture!

That's what I'm betting on, but I think I will have to revise my predictions anime movies, Japanese products, and the market are just so volatile. I can never get an accurate read for them, unless its merchandise sales.

But the most important thing is to do well in Japan, right?

One thing that DBS Broly has going for it is the school break just after Christmas. I believe that’s a 10 day break in total. There’s a public holiday on the 24th of December, and New Year’s Day, then another on the 14 of Jan. I believe RoF had Golden week which is 4 days off out of 5 weekdays, I can’t really remember anything else.

Then hopefully it’ll make more in ¥ this year, with it appearing that the children’s ticket is higher than previous, and it’s in 2D screens, 4DX, and MX4D. RoF had 2D screens, IMAX3D, and 4DX. Hopefully the extra 4D screens will put the income up a little.
I’m really looking forward to see how much it makes after this weekend is over.

As of 8pm, it has sold roughly between 245,000-265,000 tickets. That is over double what it did yesterday at the same point in time. Resurrection F sold about 300,000 tickets by 8pm on its Saturday but again that was it's first day.

So I'd estimate that today it's made ¥340-350 million up to yet or more. Again until the first actuals come in and we know an accurate average ticket price then it's going to be a rough estimate at the moment. It'll be easier from Monday.

The sales I've mentioned just include what it did on the Friday and what it did so far on the Saturday.

Forecasts are out. Broli's opening weekend is indeed estimated to be lower than F despite the average ticket price being high.

Broli - ¥900 million(approx.)
F - ¥960 million

Alright so Saturday has about come to a close. Resurrection F sold about 380,000 tickets on it's opening day on Saturday. Broly on Saturday sold about 275,000 to 295,000 tickets. So that's about ¥370 million to ¥400 million.

Across Friday and Saturday it's sold about 445,000 to 480,000 tickets which could be between ¥600 million to ¥640 million (about $5.5 million), still possible that it's higher than the high end though.

Maybe Broly can do better Sunday than it did Saturday, Resurrection F didn't but that did open on Saturday. Otherwise the movie is doing well but up to yet it just seems like it's doing within the same kind of business that the last one did across three days. So if you expected this one to perform significantly better...maybe you shouldn't anymore.

Where did you see that forecast? That wouldn't be too bad because after all, Friday's gross is not included in the weekend gross for Japan, just Saturday and Sunday. So if that held true it'd be ¥1.1 billion+ for the 3 day. A bit higher than Resurrection F.

JP fans on 5ch. They have it at ¥870 million. But, I'm sticking with my own calculation.

So, Toei decides to pull out the stops and produce the best animated Dragon Ball film of all time, and with an overall stronger story than Resurrection F, but performs worse?

I hope this doesn't mean that the new peak in popularity of Dragon Ball is coming to a close just as it reached its peak. I hope this doesn't mean that Toei won't be bothered to spend the time and effort to making the series look the best that it can if and when it returns, because if the fans don't care about how it looks, then why should they? I really hope that isn't the case.

Eh, we should wait for official sources. There is no possible way that this movie can do worse than RoF....

Well it's not necessarily performing worse. After all if RoF opened on a Saturday then it's natural it would make more on the weekend because Broly ate up demand on Friday.

I'm just saying, don't automatically think that it's gonna blow past RoF because it might not. It might in the end but don't assume it.

That aside, the figures saw a bit of a boost as of the Saturday so rather than ¥600-640 million...maybe ¥630-680 million would be a bit more accurate.

Another positive is that so far, Sunday is performing better than Saturday (as of 10am) which was not the case for RoF where it was doing virtually the same all day until it fell behind starting from 8pm.

So as of writing it should be between ¥700-750 million+.
