Dragon Ball Super: Broly - Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian and Australian Home Releases (Blu-ray/DVD)

Post by JohnnyCashKami » Sun May 05, 2019 4:49 am

Looks pretty decent. It features the movie on Blu-ray and 5 Art Cards for €24.90.

But if I'm being frank, this feels a bit overpriced and incomplete. I mean, they could've thrown in the DVD disc too like Manga UK will be doing but the UK Steelbook is BD + DVD without art cards (that's exclusive to a supermarket).

Now, the French Steelbook will apparently come with a poster as is on its description and perhaps some art cards (they're on the gallery so who knows). Costs €19.99.

And for whatever's worth, Spain will have the typical CE boxset they do for a hefty price of €37.99 with 3 discs (BD/DVD/DVD Extras) and a booklet. Those who opt to buying the standard Blu-ray or DVD release won't get the video extras because that's exclusive to the CE set.

Lastly, it came as a bit of a surprise that there will a Portuguese home release of Super Broly but it's just a standard DVD release. At least it's only €10.99 (or €12.99 retail price).

Almost forgot! The Australian release will be published on standard Blu-ray / DVD (sold separately) without any special packaging, it seems. BD will be AU$34.95 and the DVD for AU$29.95.

This about covers most Western Super Broly releases.

An interesting tidbit of the Italian release:
Beside the theatrical dub, it also has the same dub with the TV names.
And, most important, the subtitles aren't just the transcription of the dub(as way too often happens) but a whole different translation, with different terminology in some instances.

I suggest to all the owners of the Italian DVD\BRD to watch again the movie with the subtitles on, as they also are free of the few errors of the dub.

But I wonder what they mean by Spanish. Are they referring to the Castilian or the Latin American dub? Same goes for the Portuguese audio. Are they referring to the dub from Portugal or Brazil?

You're forgetting about the inexplicable Argentinian redub. It could be any of those three Spanish dubs.

The Argentinian dub was only produced for one purpose, as a SAP audio for the U.S airings of the movie.

So, the only way that dub could be included in that Thai release would be if that said release was a bootleg.

Is Funi involved in this? Obviously, the English dub doesn't appear to be included, but Funi was credited in the Portugal Portuguese posters for some reason, maybe it used Funi's script. This might sound bizarre, but it's possible the Portuguese audio is the Portugal Portuguese dub and the Spanish dub is the Argentinian Spanish dub (on account of Funi possibly having distribution rights to it and not the main Latin American Spanish dub produced IIRC in Mexico)

Actually I think Starz was the producer of that dub, not FUNi. The fact that it had been aired in two of Starz channels (HD and Kids & Family) gives me the idea that it is an exclusive dub for that company.

Also, Starz is no strange to produce Latin American dubs since they produced the original Latin Spanish dub for the Spartacus franchise (there's also an alternate dub of this franchise produced by FOX.)

So, the thing may be like this:

Starz contacts with FUNi > Starz gets the English dub from them > Starz decides to produce a Latin Spanish dub because they didn't want to pay FOX for the original Mexican dub > The Latin Spanish dub ends up in Argentina for budget reasons and since Starz already had the FUNi dub master in their possession, they decided to use it as source of that dub.
