Vegeta’s Spirit Control training on Yardrat is pretty much the ultimate potential unlock

Post by GodVegetto91 » Wed Jan 15, 2020 9:11 am

It reminds me a lot of Gohan’s potential unlock under the Elder Kaioshin’s magic ritual. He too, got all of his own inner, latent powers unlocked. His true potential. Now the exact same thing is happening to Vegeta. Only this time he has to work for it himself, and is a spiritual training, involving balancing yourself on these spiky poles in the sky. The Elder Yardrat specifically stated that it brought out all of Vegeta’s OWN inner power. Hence was already there all this time, but couldn’t be accessed prior to now. But on top of simply getting a WILD power increase, Vegeta now, unlike Gohan then, gets a MULTITUDE of potent abilities and techniques that go way beyond just simple strength.

Hence Vegeta’s training on Planet Yardrat is the TRUE Potential Unlock training, and far faaaar superior to Elder Kai’s unlock. In fact, this training may even give Vegeta the ability to survive in space, immunity to Moro’s magic, God Ki, Ultra Instinct (a future possibility ofcourse!), life extension to live as long as the Gods possibly, Instant Transmission, Cloning, Gigantification, healing, and maybe far more other abilities!

This training BOTH massively increases the person’s power (Potential Unlock),

AND gives the user countless techniques and abilities that go way beyond simple strength.

Isn’t this the ultimate training regime?

Not really, Goku did the same thing years ago and Vegeta should have during his time with Whis. Toyotarou is doing nothing but muddying concepts long established by the series decades ago and 'fixing' things that weren't broken to begin with.

I think it works really well for Vegeta. When we were told that Vegeta has been held back all this time by how unbalanced his Spirit has been, knowing his personality and how he goes about things, it makes sense. It feels like a true Toriyama-esque retcon in that sense, where it can be played off as if it was the plan the whole time (when we all know it wasn't). It gives Vegeta a separate path from Goku this arc while also showing us details about training we never got to see with Goku in the past. We're seeing the end of Vegeta's redemption arc regarding the Namekians, so his ki has been balanced in more ways than one. I think it's great!

Man, Vegeta's character just gets rewritten every other week now doesn't it. Whatever happened to the brutal, clarity of purpose warrior I fell in love with?
My opinions suck. You should probably mute me to spare yourself having to see them.

As if they'll ever have him surpass Goku for more than a brief moment.

Don’t see how that has anything to do with the content of this thread.

But to answer your statement off topic, this time, Vegeta fans have far more of a reason to assume that Vegeta may finally surpass Goku legit this time (if Whis’ statement/revelation to Vegeta in episode 16 of Super is anything to go by ofcourse).

No. Potential Unlock is, basically, maximizing the amount of possible power from one's body.
Spirit Control is Quality Control on their Ki, it means USING it better.

COmpletely different stuff. No doubt one could stack Spirit Control on Potential Unlock.

The Elder Yardrat specifically stated to Vegeta, that what he just witnessed, was his own nascent power. Hence had already been there for longer and just couldn’t be accessed prior to that point in time (that is exactly what a Potential Unlock is all about). Sorry to burst your bubble.

As a Vegeta fan there is no way Vegeta will legitimately surpass Goku. The best to hope for is he continues this path of doing things differently from Goku. Not better or worse but differently.

Of course his power was there all the time. It was his Ki!

It's a completely different thing from Potential Unlock, which brings out power that wasn't there YET.
POTENTIAL Unlock.

Seriously, it's in the words.

In a matter of speaking Vegeta is harnessing his potential, yeah. What I'm concerned about, as mentioned in other topics, is the possibility of this layering of the Spirit Control concept as the universal nexus of unique powers and physiological traits. We already saw one of the Yardratians manipulate his size and it even allowed someone to be healed. It would effectively tarnish what merit the other characters with their odd powers have if they decided to push all of it onto Vegeta.

I don't want to see Vegeta elongating his limbs like Piccolo or healing people like Dende. Some qualities should remain exclusive to certain characters. Vegeta exploring the conceptual and meditative side of fighting to better come into his own as a complete fighter is one thing given his lack of pursuance in the field and emphasis on raw might. Having said that, he doesn't need to be made into this master of all trades that one-ups every other person around him in their own specialities in spite of his dogmatic belief in the philosophy of ever-growing power from his Saiyan background up until now.

You clearly do not understand the definition of potential unlock.

”Potential” is something that is ALREADY there! And “Unlock” is the ability to bring it out for use, to ACTUALIZE it. Please research something first before making ignorant claims about it.

Then you have not looked at the evidence. All the evidence/statements point to Vegeta having much more potential due to his birth right. He is the Saiyan Prince who was born with a much higher power level than Goku. (Go watch the Broly movies, both the canon and non canon ones), Vegeta himself has stated this multiple times too in the series proper. So that’s 1.

2. Whis even stated that Vegeta could surpass Goku if he learned to “control his ki”. And that’s exactly what he’s doing right now on planet Yardrat.

3. Vegeta has always trained on his own and never had a teacher until Whis. Goku has always had teachers, in fact, MANY of them. And Goku has always had much greater spirit control than Vegeta after his training on Yardrat. While also having the ability to utilize Kaioken and the Spirit Bomb. Some massive advantages. Yet despite all of this, despite having an extremely unbalanced spirit-body connection, and despite never having had any if many teachers before, Vegeta still always managed to somewhat keep up with Goku and even surpassed him on more than one occasion. Before coming to Yardrat, and massively increasing his spirit power for the first time ever in his life, he was still able to unlock SSJ Blue Evolution and become godly powerful. That’s some feat for someone who is extremely out of balance.

This video explains it really well.

The only reason for why Goku would ever surpass Vegeta again in the future is because the writers want it to be, because Goku is the main character and no other valuable reason.

I have looked at the evidence. And your bold statement is the bottom line. Goku is the main character and never in a million years will Vegeta surpass him at least not for long or where it really counts.

At the most they can be equal and have different strengths but Vegeta will never truly surpass Goku

Even from a story point of view if Vegeta’s dream comes true and he surpasses Goku then what? Sometimes the journey is more important than the end goal.

I guess we’ll see indeed. Maybe you’re right. This really is more of a situation between “What should be” Vs “What the writers want at each moment in time”. And that doesn’t have to make sense.
