This episode was awesome. The soundtrack finally caught up with me, and i finally listened to something memorable.
Also once you fix the colors, the remaster quality is really nice, great to look at.

Probably the best episode of the new Kai run yet, but I groaned at Videl's "I'm healed!" dialogue. I half-expected a "tee-hee!" in there somewhere.

Quoting from IRC because I don't feel like writing this again:

[23:22] <Puto> random but
[23:22] <Puto> today's Kai episode convinced me that 'Majin Vegeta' is wrong
[23:22] <Puto> completely.
[23:23] <Puto> because of the fact that Spopovitch and Yamu claimed at the end that with that energy they could finally revive 'the Majin'
[23:23] <Puto> which pretty much means that 'Majin' in the context of Bobbidi refers exclusively to Boo and nobody else
[23:23] <Puto> which means Majin Vegeta is completely and utterly wrong

So, what DBZ episodes does this cover?

Covered the remaining half of 217, what was needed of 218 (it was a host of filler originally), and the first half of 219.
I think next week will cover the remaining half of 219, 220, and the first few minutes of 221.

At the pace they're going, I don't forsee the episode count being anywhere near the 66 or so claimed.

I thought it was 69, not 66.

And I can see it being that long if they leave a lot of the filler with the fights intact. Those fights in Z sure took a long time...

There are only 71 episodes of Z left to adapt. I find it very hard to believe that they could fill 61 more episodes of Kai without an extreme slowdown.

I shudder to think Toei made two copies of this arc: one that is sixty-nine episodes for international broadcast and one that is fewer episodes.

Even then, much of the filler is things like the cutaways to Mr. Satan.

69 is starting to look like one hell of a troll number thrown out by someone with a mind worthy of Roshi.

I really liked Gohan's transformation in Z so I tried to compare the two and I noticed that, in Z, Gohan didn't clench his fist after Kibito asked what he meant by surpassing the wall of Super Saiya-jin. Actually, that scene is at the end of episode 218!

I went back and tried to synch the scenes from when Kibito and Gohan are announced until he transformed (episodes 218 and 219) and found that several scenes were rearranged. Sure, that's not a big change but it seems Toei went that extra mile. And might I say, their edits overall are well done, you hardly notice the original scene was longer (except when the voice actors have to speed up their lines comparing to Z).

Watching the episode right now. Videl vs. Spopovitch is even more brutal than I remember.

You guys are right. Everything seems to be getting a lot better. Is it possible that they started putting more effort into these episodes when they realized that it was also going to air in Japan? :P

Still waiting to hear more BOG tracks, I heard one during this episode. Would really like to hear some of my favourite pieces during the more action-oriented episodes.

EDIT: Just finished watching. I've always enjoyed how the Buu arc unfolds initially, in fact, I think every story arc in DBZ starts off rather strongly. There's always that element of mystery in the beginning, which I find rather neat- even though I already know how the whole series goes.

Was an all right episode, not my favourite but the pacing, editing and music were all fine although the music placements definitely could've been better as well as more silent moments which I wish it had.

Episode 105 felt like it was done better than this one, imo.

I like how they didn't censor Videl getting tortured.
That Gohan's anger scene cant even be compared to the original.

The BGM that played when Gohan turned ssj for Kibito was interesting. Very videogame like but not bad.
A world without Dragon Ball is just meh.

Decent music in this one, but the pacing could have been slightly faster. Some of those repeated audience shots and stuff felt like attempts to drag things out.

the episodes have to end somewhere that feels like a logical conclusion, and they have 20 minutes to fill, so there's always going to be a certain amount of padding.

Its gonna take a while getting used to not hearing The Ginyu Transformation Theme during Gohan's ascent to SSJ2.

I have a feeling this will happen too. In fact, i bet the last episodes of the arc will be gorgeous because they knew it would air in Japan by then. :problem:
Dang Japanpeople, thinking they can feed shit to Americans.
