Part 1 (A-M)

Part 2 (N-Z) is on page 9 of this thread.

BABA:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Kanzenban version.
Toriyama has often drawn Baba with white hair in various artworks, much like her brother Kame Sennin (they're probably about the same age after all). The only exception to that seems to be in the color pages, where she is drawn very small but her hair do seem purple just this once. However, all new elements presented here come from the Kanzenban: a dark indigo outfit instead of black, and a pale green ribbon on the hat (Toriyama used to make it red). The crystal ball is also darker.

BABIDI:

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Kanzenban version.
Babidi wears all-white clothes.
3) Super Butoden 3 version.
An alternative costume for this game, showing a bright grey "skirt" (the Majin insigna stands out as a bit whiter in comparison), with a slightly more orangy red, and a brownish skin. Babidi appears only as a non-playable character in the intro presentation for Majin Boo, but since he is counted as part of the monster's sprites, he appears with alternative colors when Majin Boo does so.

BARDACK:

ImageImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Budokai 3 version.
The alternative outfit for this game shows a grey-blue armor, probably inspired by Toma.
3) Raging Blast 2 version.
The DLC outfit for this game has Bardack wearing Vegeta's armor, with a red scouter.
4) Ultimate Butoden version.
An alternative costume for this game having a lot of blue: cyan-like blue for the armor (with purple pecs), blue for the hand bandages and head bandage. For the render above, the head bandage is not shown but the scouter is there - while it doesn't appear in-game - and was colored the same blue as what the head bandage would have been (which in turn is the same than the hand bandages) because leaving the scouter green took away the overall very blue model wanted for this game.

BLUE:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Kanzenban version.
The differences are quite subtle. The tie is black instead of red, the overall outfit is of a darker shade and Blue's hair are not flashy blond anymore, but a darker, more natural blond.

BOING:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) The World version.
A normal tongue, white siliva, and green skin. Side by side, those renders make me think of Mom Boing and Dad Boing.

BOJACK:

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Toriyama version.
The original Toriyama design had Bojack sporting a green skin and orangy red hair, with yellowish-tainted pants. Those traits are common to all of his henchmen in his original design.
3) Super Butoden 2 dialogue version.
In this game, Bojack's alternative design appears as an exclusive version during dialogues, having a different alternative color scheme during the fights (as well as his "transformed" appearance). He has Toriyama's design original yellowish tint for the pants, and most notably a blue skin. A purple coat and orange jewels are among other chances, as well as a red "pants lock".

BRA:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Kanzenban would-be version.
There is no indication of Toriyama's choices for Bra as far as I know, but we do know that Bulma undoubtedly has purple hair in the manga, so there's no reason why her daughter would have blue hair. The logic would have her showing eyes and hair similar to her mother. We don't know about her clothes.

BROLY:

ImageImageImage
ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Super Butoden 2 version.
For the alternative outfit from this Super NES video game, the round jewels are green and he has yellow hair. The pants have a very slight blue tint (you really need to have it side to side with the original outfit to see it) and the "skirt" is still red, but slightly more orangy.
3) Budokai 3 version.
For the alternative costume in this game, we have red jewels, a desaturated purple "skirt", and "dirty dark" pants.
4) Ultimate Butoden version.
Alternative clothing for this game. It shows an overall very green scheme. The skirt has its own shade of green (closer to yellow), while the accessories all share the same shade of green (closer to blue), and the jewels are purple.
5) Zenkai Battle Royale version.
One of the alternative appearances from this game looks like a rougher version of Broly, with all-dark grey (with a hint of yellow remaining) accessories, a desaturated almost-black "skirt" and pants a little darker than his usual pure white.

BULMA:

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Full-Color Manga version.
With purple hair as usual and a sexy red color instead of black.
3) The World version.
The usual purple hair (a bit faded in this case), with a blue bunny outfit this time. The legs share the exact same tint than her wristles, which mean they're meant to be white.

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Full-Color Manga.
Not too much difference, aside from the hair and a slightly darker blue vest.

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Chapter 205 version (with Kanzenban touch).
The one she wears during Raditz' attack, according to the fully-colored chapter. She first appears wearing colors that have been used in the anime, but after Raditz' death, Toriyama colorized her that way in one of the only fully-colored chapters of the whole manga. Raditz's low-quality scouter has been adapted to the Kanzenban style for that picture.

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Manga version N°1.
A version often depicted on artworks and appearing on color pages (chapter 272). Her sleeves are pitch black and the stuff in her hair is red.
3) Daizenshuu 179 version.
A version appearing on one Toriyama artwork. Her suit is orange, with little grey parts on the chest and blue sleeves and hair-stuff.

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Manga would-be version.
Her outfit here is left unsure: we do know she has purple hair, but we don't know what Toriyama chose for her clothes as far as I know (I don't think there's any color pages or artwork with that appearance). The clothes are in the right color ONLY if the anime staff did take advice from him as to what color she should be wearing.

BUTTA:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Dragon Ball Z (Arcade) version.
An alternative appearance for this video game, giving more of a reptilian feel to the character. Just replacing his blue skin with green skin. His scouter does not appear and how it would be affected by the changes in colors is unknown.

C-16:

ImageImageImageImage
ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Super Butoden version. The alternative costume for this Super NES video game shows a much greener shade of green.
3) Buyu Retsuden version. An alternative costume for this game, showing an orangy yellow tint for the armor, and a black suit (slightly blue-tinted, which is very obvious when comparing to the announcer's black outfit).
4) Ultimate Battle 22 version. The alternative appearance for this game shows a blue armor, with black (subtly turquoise-shaded) suit.
4) Budokai version N°1. The base outfit for this game has the suit being unusually blue.
5) Budokai version N°2. The alternative costume for this game displays the armor in a dark grey shade, while still retaining the blue suit.
6) Budokai 3 version. This time, the suit is back to normal black, and the alternative outfit for this game shows a much brighter grey color for the armor.

C-17:

ImageImageImage
1) Anime / Original Manga version.
2) Super Dragon Ball Z version. An alternative costume for this video game, one that definately gives a whole other feel to that character, a more feminine side (especially combined with the mid-long hair).
3) Ultimate Butoden version. A blue scarf, and orangy brown trousers, for this game's alternative appearance.

C-18:

ImageImage
1) Anime / Original Manga version.
2) 2012 Toriyama would-be version. While conceiving character designs for Battle of Gods, Toriyama admitedly forgot C-18's original hair color. Without reference to his past works, he apparently envisionned C-18 as having purple hair in 2012. Maybe he was inspired by that other, quite famous female android he had drawn in the past?

CELL:

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version
2) Original Manga version. Not too many differences, but the eyes are white for Toriyama.
3) Budokai version. For the alternative costume in this game, Cell is blue with orange articulations.

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Kanzenban version. Tweaks to various colors of Cell are revealed twice with the Kanzenban, but the most striking one is his lips which are blue now. Cell has red eyes when reaching the 2nd Form.
3) Budokai version. With the alternative appearance for this game, Cell has gone blue with orange articulations.

ImageImageImageImage
ImageImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Original Manga / Kanzenban version. Cell's junctions and articulations on his body (like the "belt") are most often blue, as opposed to purple in the anime. Cell keeps his red eyes for his Perfect Form.
3) Super Butoden & Super Butoden 2 version. The alternative outfit for those Super NES video games will display a turquoise shade instead of the regular green.
4) DBZ 2 Super Battle version N°1. An alternative, pink render of Cell, with purple articulations. Cell, you were supposed to absorb the cyborgs, not Majin Boo! (and what a threat he would be then!)
5) DBZ 2 Super Battle version N°2. Another alternative, game version of Cell. This golden Cell still has purple articulations.
6) Hyper Dimension version. The alternative appearance from this Super NES video game shows Cell being grey.
7) Budokai version. The alternative costume for this game has Cell being blue, with purple articulations, and the yellow surrounding of his face has gone dark blue.
8) Super Dragon Ball Z version. A video game alternative appearance showing a white Cell with purple articulations, his armor and crystals being black. With that, Cell is ready for secret operations in the middle of snowfields!

CELL JUNIOR:

ImageImageImageImage
1) Anime / Original Manga version.
2) Super Butoden 2 version. For the alternative costume in this game, Cell Jr. is green like his dad. It's not the same shade of green though, since his green is closer to turquoise than to yellow.
3) Budokai What-If version. In this game, Cell has a nightmare about absorbing Krilin by accident. This turns him into an alternative costume for Cell Jr. No more Freezer features on his face, his skin has turned pinkish while his body has become dark orange with purple "armor". He noticeably has some Krilin features, such as the Kame Sen emblem, the dots on his head or his lack of nose.
4) Budokai 3 version. For the alternative appearance in this game, we have a red Cell Jr., with green articulations and green cheek lines as well. Note that the "armor" still has a bluish hint.

CHICHI:

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Daizenshuu 65 version. This version appears on one tiny Toriyama artwork for a calendar (characters showing the numbers associated with months). The helmet and shoulder pads are blue, with the main outfit being black, and all lines being orange.
3) Super Dragon Ball Z version. That alternative costume for a video game shows the main clothes as being all black, and the accessories such as the helmet and the gloves are blue, with optionnal white outlines.

COOLER:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Budokai 3 version. An alternative costume for this video game. The skin gets indigo and more importantly, the crystal on his head is now bright orange. This version was also used for the Budokai Tenkaichi game series.

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Budokai 3 version. An alternative costume for this video game. The lower layers of armor are grey/white (losing the overall blue/green tint of the original), while the most proeminent layers of armor are red. That contrast between the various layers of armor brings an interesting style to this version.
3) Supersonic Warriors 2 version. An alternative, very completely-metallic-like appearance for this game. Seeing him like this, you can actually imagine how it must hurt your fist when punching him!

DABRA:

ImageImageImage
ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Kanzenban version. Dabra wears black.
3) Super Butoden 3 version. The base outfit for this Super NES video game shows Dabra's outfit as being cyan, while his alternative outfit is the one to have anime colors. Mistake or artistic choice? His skin is also made a darker red tone.
4) Budokai 3 version. The alternative outfit for this game has a dark grey or black suit complete with a dark, yet flashy green for the cape.
5) Zenkai Battle Royale version. A bright but almost totally desaturated yellow outfit (essentially resulting in a "dirty white" outfit), a red cape, a dark yellow belt. Quite a few changes for one of the alternative costumes in this game.

DEMON KING PICCOLO:

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Chapter 155 version. A version of Piccolo used in a manga chapter. The kanji and belt are faded purple, with a slightly faded red surrounding the kanji. The suit is black. But more unusual is the use of a very dark brown color for the Namek "muscles" (instead of the usual "skin" tone).
3) Kanzenban version. The Kanzenban collection shows twice that Demon King Piccolo, regardless of his age, wears the same outfit than our Piccolo, with the same colors. The only difference is that he has the symbol on his chest, which is colored as such in the Kanzenban.

DENDE:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Kanzenban version. Dende is confirmed in a Kanzenban back cover to have a black vest with a purple belt.

DODORIA:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Kanzenban version. Dodoria's not pink anymore!

DR. GERO:

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Kanzenban version. It's true that it looks like a limited-colors version, but on the Kanzenban covers, even when it's on the back of said covers, Toriyama was free to use all colors. It seems to imply that those limited colors are part of how he actually saw Gero during the Kanzenban release.
3) Budokai 3 version. Yellow belt and vest string, flashy blue for the shoulders and lighter blue for the sleeves, that's what we have for this game's alternative outfit.

FREEZER:

ImageImageImage
ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Chapter 255 version. A really, really intense pink-going-very-red skin, with slightly-orangy yellow cheek lines.
3) Daizenshuu 150 version. Pretty much the anime version, but the skin is plain white.
4) Daizenshuu 152 version. An intimidating Freezer covering the whole background behind Goku's tiny representation. All set in black and yellowish tones, except for the red eyes.
5) Kanzenban version. Freezer appears has either having a white skin or a pink skin in the original artworks. However, in the Kanzenban, Toriyama has clearly chosen (twice) that his skin is light pink, most of his body being dark pink. Also, his gauntlet doesn't show any distinctive colors.

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Kanzenban would-be version. Toriyama shows the Kanzenban updates for the first and third form, and they are entirely coherent. It can be safely assumed that his second form keeps in line with the previous and next forms, even more when we see that it's just mainly a taller version of the first form.

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Kanzenban version. Keeping in line with the previous forms.

ImageImageImage
ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Original Manga version. The difference is quite subtle... Can you see it? In the manga, Freezer's mouth (including his tongue and gengiva) is all blue inside, similarly to other villains. His blood is blue as well.
3) Limited palette version. To adapt to the limitation of colors for some manga pages, Toriyama showed Freezer as now having grey tongue and gengiva (which is an expected consequence of the missing blue tint), but pitch black "crystals" on the tyrant's body. The result is pretty interesting.
4) Super Butoden version. With the alternative appearance from this Super NES video game, no more purple, it's cold blue for Freezer.
5) Hyper Dimension version. The alternative version from this Super NES video game shows the purple parts gone desaturated-red/brown, while the body has a "sicker", slightly yellowish tone.
6) Ultimate Butoden version. Icy turquoise for this game's alternative Freezer.

GARLIC JUNIOR:

ImageImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Dragon Ball Heroes version.
An orangy-red version used in a mission for Dragon Ball Heroes, we can infer his belt is desaturated pink since it's supposed to have the same color than his wristles.
3) Tenkaichi Budokai version N°1.
There is no version of this game being the exact replica of the anime version. This one wears a white belt, and has more of a dark blue tint, although it can be quite subtle.
4) Tenkaichi Budokai version N°2.
Like the first outfit for this game, there is a white belt, and this time the tint tends more towards the green side, making his skin somewhat turquoise.

GHOURD:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Original Manga / Kanzenban version. Not much of a difference, but Ghourd has a much greener shade of green in Toriyama's mind than in the anime.

GIANT APE:

ImageImage
1) Anime / Full Color Manga version.
2) Daizenshuu Volume 7 version. Toriyama has drawn the Giant Ape as having a skin tone (albeit quite more saturated than for human depictions), yellow eyes and blue-almost-going-indigo fur. Since Giant Apes are quite rare in Toriyama artworks, it is currently unknown if it was a one-time vision or if he actually always saw them as changing the color of their fur compared to their human forms' brown tail.

GINYU:

ImageImageImage
ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Kanzenban version.
Ginyu shows a darker purple than on the anime. His scouter is now blue. The line on the side of the scouter is blue as well, but there is also supposed to be a red button which only appears on the "Goku possessed" picture down below. Note that the scouters belonging to Commando Ginyu are different than the one from Raditz, keeping their white color and various colors for lines and buttons, while Raditz' scouter is all dark grey, possibly hinting at a lower quality.
3) Dragon Ball Z (Arcade) version.
A greenish skin for this game's alternative appearance, it does give a different "classic alien" feeling to the character. The scouter and emblem do not not appear in-game.
4) Ultimate Battle 22 version.
An alternative armor for that game, with a grey and blue armor. The scouter and emblem do not appear in-game.
5) Supersonic Warriors version.
In this game, the alternative look shows a more indigo skin and a white armor. For some reason, I think Ginyu actually looks like one of the good guys, a good spaceship captain like that. The scouter and emblem do not appear in-game.

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Chapter 287 version. In the color pages of this manga chapter, Goku appears in his usual manga color scheme, but the scouter is unusually depicted as yellow. Counting anime and manga, the scouters will end up having as much color variations as lightsabers!
3) Kanzenban would-be version. Goku wears orange and has Ginyu's new Kanzenban scouter.

GOGETA:

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Shin Butoden version.
Alternative look for a video game, the vest has a very soft turquoise tint, with purple shoulder pads, and a bright green belt. Most strikingly, the hair color has a redder tint than the usual Super Saiyan hair we're used to.
3) Budokai 3 version.
The alternative oufit for this game shows a green vest, and a slightly dessaturated yellow for the belt and ankles. Shoulder pads unchanged.

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Budokai 3 version. For the alternative appearance in this game, many unexpected changes: white hair, desaturated golden fur which could almost be confused with his skin, indigo pants, bright orange belt, turquoise vest... But more surprisingly: a really dark skin! Eh, I guess if the hair can change colors, why not the skin?

GOTENKS:

ImageImageImageImage
1) Anime version / Manga version. The regular version, shown several times by Toriyama, although he depicts the vest as being black instead of blue sometimes.
2) Daizenshuu 247 version. For one artwork used as a poster, Toriyama made the vest black and more importantly the shoulder circles turquoise.
3) Kanzenban version. A dark, slightly greenish vest with much darker, almost black wood for the shoulder "circle-stuff"... The "very used" feel of the wood was hard to reproduce from the Kanzenban cover, so you might be unhappy with the result.
4) Budokai 3 version. Same than for Gogeta in the same game, green vest, dessaturated yellow for the belt and ankles. The shoulder pads remain unchanged.

ImageImage
1) Anime / Original Manga version.
2) Limited palette version. Gotenks as he appears in the manga the first time he turns Super Saiyan, in front of a small but amazed audience (chapter 482). He's essentially wearing grey and black except for his red belt and ankles. His hair color is slightly faded, as one would expect from a limited palette. Eyes are also dark grey due to the missing green tint.

GRANDPA SON GOHAN:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Original Manga version. This is how Gohan is depicted in the color pages (chapter 106), including changes in the sleeves, mask and halo.

GYUMAO:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Full-Color Manga version. Green is the dominant color now.

JACKIE CHUN:

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Daizenshuu 10 & 11 version. This version wears faded purple.
3) Kanzenban version. The outfit has an indigo tint.

JANEMBA:

ImageImage

1) Anime version.
2) Budokai Tenkaichi 3 version. When you simply turn the purple/pink parts into blue (almost indigo) parts, you get the alternative appearance for this video game.

JEESE:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Original Manga / Kanzenban version. Meaning a pinkish tone for his skin rather than plain red.

KAIO:

ImageImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Tankobon spinart version.
The version you can see when looking at the spine of your original Tankobon collection. Most noticeably, his skin is white and his outfit is mostly green, with red lines and orangy clothes underneath.
3) Daizenshuu 196 version.
You've already seen a pink Kaio. But maybe you've never seen OUR North Kaio being pink. In a party artwork by Toriyama, Kaio appears in his usual outfit, albeit with a purple hint on his hat. But his skin has changed! What if Kaio could actually change the color of his skin when it's party time? Might be his way to suit up for the occasion! That, and white glasses too.
4) Kanzenban version N°1.
Totally new colors for Kaio's outfit compared to the anime. He reappears in a later Kanzenban cover with yet another set of colors (a little closer to the anime version, with pink or red sleeves), but playing a minor role in the illustration instead of being the main (very detailled) center of interest, so I guess this first version you see is more relevant.

KAIO SHIN FROM OLD TIMES:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Original Manga / Kanzenban version. The skin is brownish instead of purple, it's been like that since the original manga cover for Tankobon 41, and is confirmed on a Kanzenban cover. The Potalas are also shown as being emerald in all occurences.

KAME SENNIN:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Original Manga version. Not much of a change here, but the glasses are yellow...

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Chapter 106 version. He wears white all over. His glasses have a white border too, but the glass itself has a green tint (the glasses do not appear in this picture right here).
3) Daizenshuu 76 version. This time he wears blue. The glasses have a red border with light green glass (the glasses do not appear in this picture right here).

KARIN:

ImageImageImage
ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Original Manga version N°1. Karin has been shown to have several colors for his fur. But Toriyama seems to prefer blue. I took this specific "light blue with white spots" from the color pages (chapter 163). His staff is lighter than in the anime version.
3) Original Manga version N°2 / Dragon Ball Online version. A version of Karin shown on the side cover when putting the Tankobon together. Karin is all dark blue, except for the nose which is black. His staff is lighter than the anime version.
4) Daizenshuu 67 version. An artwork by Toriyama used for a calendar. He has a "golden cat" fur (somewhere between orange and yellow) and a blue staff.
5) Daizenshuu 196 version. An artwork by Toriyama. A fully brown Karin, except for his little pink nose.

KIBITOSHIN:

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Kanzenban would-be version. Kaio Shin and Kibitoshin had major (and if you ask me, great) updates for the Kanzenban. They have the same outfit, so no debates for their fusion's outfit. After that, the skin is a wild guess: I don't think there's any Toriyama colored version of Kibitoshin, but the anime chose (possibly following the instruction of Toriyama) that he retained the skin from Kaio Shin, so I followed that and gave him Kaio Shin's new pinkish-red tone.
3) Budokai 3 version. For this game's alternative appearance, we have green pants, green sleeves, blue boots, and a very desaturated purple/pink for the vest.

KINTO-UN:

ImageImageImageImage
1) Anime version / Original Manga version N°1 / Full-Color Manga version. This is how Kinto-Un appeared in one full-color chapter in the manga, and in all subsequent limited-colors chapters (including the new Kanzenban ending).
2) Original Manga version N°2 / Kanzenban version. Good old Kinto-Un is clearly meant to be purple for Toriyama. We've seen several colors in artworks, and it started as yellow in the manga, but all subsequent fully-colored pages and most artworks show it as purple (including the Super Exciting Guide during the Kanzenban continuity).
3) Original Manga version N°3. Kinto-Un appears blue on several artworks.
4) Original Manga version N°4. Kinto-Un appears as white as a regular cloud (sometimes with very subtle hints of purple for the shadows) on several artworks (some of them being limited-palette pictures, while others are fully-colored images).

KRILIN:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Full-Color Manga version.
A very distinct appearance thanks to the normal eyes, and a completely different color scheme for the clothes. His costume is now orange (possibly fitting more with the concept that he's a shaolin?), and we got brown pants, black shoes (with white bottom) and blackish dark grey chest lace and belt.

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Daizenshuu 180 version. Shown in an artwork from Toriyama. To go with his black armor with faded brown shoulders, Krilin has blue under-clothes similarly to Gohan and Vegeta. In the manga, Krilin's eyes are white, no different than any other ordinary character!

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Kanzenban version. Red shirt doesn't fit Krilin as well as this black shirt with blue wrist. Krilin looks much more stylish this way in my opinion! For Toriyama, Krilin's eyes are not skin-toned, they're just as white as most other characters!

LUNCH:

ImageImage[/URL]
1) Anime version.
2) Full-Color Manga version.
Among lots of tint adjustements, we can notice black suspenders, no yellow on the shoes (white instead), and more stikingly black eyes and a much more toned down blue for the hair, which could almost appear as black hair if it wasn't for that subtle blue tint remaining. Kind of a compromise between the anime's clear blue and Toriyama's original black hair.

MAJIN BOO:

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Manga would-be version. It is implied by a page in the fourth Daizenshu that Boo's Evil Leftover is not supposed to be any different than his further incarnation. Apparently, he's supposed to look like if his "Super Boo" incarnation had absorbed Mister Boo, only being unusually slender. This means he has a pink skin with red eyes much like all of his following forms, and Mister Boo's regular colors for the additional "latest-person-I-absorbed" clothing. For Toriyama, all incarnations of Majin Boo have their internal organs blue (or at least the interior of their mouth, except for teeth).

ImageImage
1) Anime version / Original Manga version.
2) Supersonic Warriors version. A pretty dark, faded purple for this game's alternative outfit. The yellow part of his wrists turns orangy too. That version is also used for the Supersonic Warriors 2, albeit a little bit brighter.

ImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Manga would-be version. Logically, Majin Boo inheritates the orange color from Gohan, and not red.

MISTER POPO:

ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) "US Censorship" Anime version.
For channels mainly targetting at kids, Popo had to be recolored into a fluorescent (some call it "radioactive") blue.
3) Full-Color Manga version.
The vest is now a dark, desaturated orange with white lines, and the accessories have a more orangy kind of yellow - while the head jewel has kept the original yellow-yellow). And the head jewel has turned into a ruby now. The bottom of the shoes are white instead of yellow as well. Finally, his signature big lips have a less aggressive, faded pinkish color like regular lips.

MISTER SATAN:

ImageImageImage
ImageImageImage
1) Anime version.
2) Original Manga version N°1 / Kanzenban version N°1.
This black outfit is shown on several artworks in the Boo saga, as well as in color pages. It's also a back cover of the Kanzenban, but Mr. Satan appears with his brown-colored outfit in the final front cover.
3) Super Butoden 2 in-game version.
During fights, Mr. Satan will appear with a grey vest, which is a bit weird given that his base dialogue sprite wears the anime's brown, and his unused alternative color was not meant to be grey either.
4) Super Butoden 2 dialogue version.
An unused alternative purple palette. His champion belt, not visible on this picture not during the in-game fights, also has a silver (or perhaps platinum) medal instead of gold.
5) DBZ 2 Super Battle version.
The vest turns very blue, but there's also a faint blue tint to the white pants, appearing thanks to shadows. It is easily noticeable when comparing the white pants to other white sprites in the landscape.
6) Budokai 3 version.
For the alternative outfit in this game, we have a dark leaf green vest with bright turquoise trousers.

The reason Gero looks like that is because he was using a limited palette. So he limits himself with only a few a colors such as red, black, etc. It's done for artistic purposes. So I wouldn't consider it canonical or anything.

Also, don't forget Gohan's green colored gi in the Saiyan arc, the orange bandanna on Great Saiyaman or Mirai Trunks' palette. :)

That's what that Gero inspired me too, but the thing is that it's on a Kanzenban cover now, where Toriyama could put all the colors he wanted. And still, he chose that Gero has those colors. So maybe he was happy with the actual limited colors for Gero. But you have a good point, I've added that to the description.

And I'm not forgetting about all those versions you mention, I'm still working on it all, so there might be updates! 8)
One of my favorites is teen Gohan's training outfit, which has various colors in Toriyama's colors, but he chose to have it green with a white belt and orange wrists on multiple occurences. I find it much better than the anime's purple one (which appears on one of Toriyama's artwork too: just like for Bulma, they might have taken his first illustration(s) as the basis for the anime version).

Most shocked at the official colors of Dodoria, Jeece, and Kinto-un.

Yeah, I was in shock when I saw Dodoria's new color, it makes him more disgusting somehow compared to when he has that flashy pink tone... and I love that, because it fits what we're supposed to feel that way for him and his ungracious appearance.

As for Jeese... Well, I guess he's supposed to be the Pink ranger of the group after all. I might have exagerrated just a little bit with the tone, but not too much: if you check out Toriyama's color pages and Kanzenban cover, you'll see he has that distinctive pinkish tint indeed.

Kinto-Un being purple is something I always liked. It feels somehow... more mystic or something. But that might be all because of childhood memories (or Kingdom Hearts memories) of Aladdin's magic carpet!!

Feels like the twilight zone version of dragonball.. I feel like Karin should have been kept blue in the anime, but oh well.

Agreed! Ever since I saw blue Karin in the color pages shown in the first Daizenshu, I thought he looked much more special like that.
And blue is my favorite color, so it might play a part in the fact that I like "Blue Karin" a lot... 8)

It looks almost like the evil Kinto-un that Tao Pai Pai rode in that Dragonball filler episode.

Awesome topic. I believe he colored Evil Buu pink instead of grey as well.

Not knowing much about the fillers in the original series, I didn't even know there was an "evil Kinto-Un". Maybe the anime staff chose to base it on the manga purple version for Kinto-Un, since it was unused in the anime...

That would be an interesting fact. I've never seen any colored illustration of Evil Boo by Toriyama though (it doesn't appear on the Tankobon or Kanzenban covers, nor on the Daizenshuu 1).
Do you remember where you saw that?

I guess it wasn't necessarily Toriyama that colored it, but unfortunately no, it was some kind of Japanese scan that displayed information about each of Buu's forms and had a picture of each of them in full color.

This is probably the one you're talking about, but it's not full color:

Ah yes that's it. Who drew and colored that? Even though it's not in full color, it still looks like Evil Buu being pink was the intent.

Nice work!

Also, would the colors used in Dragon Ball Online count? We know that Toriyama is the man behind the designs.

But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

The part of the Nyoi Bo you are referring to can be called a scabbard or sheath.

Also, I like Adult Gohan's gi in turquoise as well! I'm pretty sure in the anime its a dark blue not a purple. I believe it's purple in some of the video games. However, I could be wrong.

Well obviously, since gray is a part of that color palette and yet isn't used for Pure Evil Boo's skin.

Anyway, I love this thread and hope for moar!

Update Status: Original manga
Description: There were several artworks with various colors, but only this version of Gohan's training outfit shows up twice in his illustrations, hinting at the fact that it's the version he chose. Much better than the purple version if you ask me!
He looks too much like Trunks IMO.

Thanks for the vocab, that's definately the kind of word I would never have remembered on my own!!
Yeah, now that you mention it, it might be dark blue in the anime (I remember it as purple from Toriyama's artwork and the Super Butoden video game on SNES).

I'll see what I can do about Evil Boo, I can clearly add it in the "Guess" category, like Bra and Gogeta (for which we have no clear proof but we can guess what the intent would be and propose it "just in case").
And I'll try to update this thread as much as possible!

Yeah, I noticed the similarities too! A green (or turquoise - you know, people and their perception of colors will always be slightly different!) color with orange for the wrists... But still, I can't help but loving this! If I was an anime director, I would probably suck at it, cause I would say "I don't care if people confuse Gohan and Trunks, just give Gohan those freakin' amazing colors!!" 8)

I think I actually prefer the purple for Gohan, if only for the Piccolo connection.

But I definitely prefer the yellow for the Namekians, as opposed to the pink.
