Well it's something alright, and you're correct it has a power reading. At bottom right of his scouter one can see some symbols that read it's power, and above it you see the text "yuck" displayed.
I don't know what it is, some bio-slime or something he got on his hands when makin mince meat out of an alien opponent or something.

Random suggestion for those who are doing DBGT fanfics: The reason why Gohan is no longer "Mystic" is because after your recieve a power-up from the Elder Kai, it releases your maximum potential/ hidden powers that you can ever achieve in your life. Since Gohan died after fighting Buu, you could always play it off like that is the reason he is no longer "mystic". Just a suggestion.
