DBZ Ocean Group Remastered

Post by JKoshaRun1 » Fri Apr 23, 2021 10:38 pm

This is my fan remastering project of the original Ocean Group and Westwood dubs of Dragon ball Z with Dragon Box footage. I hope those who never saw this or the Westwood dub finally get a chance to enjoy it, or those that haven't seen it for a long time get to see it again in higher quality. Below is a link to where the episodes and movies are held on archive.org.

***7/24/23*** All Ocean Group and Westwood dub episodes and movies complete.

This is really neat and it's an idea I toyed with a long time ago. It's looking pretty good, but my only criticism, that I think you should be made aware of sooner rather than later, is that it looks like you applied a deinterlace filter to the Dragon Box footage which isn't necessary; it should be processed via an IVTC filter instead to preserve the full frame for the best quality.

Otherwise, good luck with it!

Thanks. The process has been going well for the most part. I recently had some weird problems with my computer, but hopefully I fixed them, plus I got a new job so progress stopped for a little. As of this post I have up to episode 18 completed, I just need to double check, export and upload.

Will your work stop with Saban or will you continue through Westwood Media?

I love this explicit version. Would you consider doing a Z Kai edit when you're finished?

I may do the Westwood dub later on, and I'm not sure about DBZ Kai. Anyway thank you all for your support. I would remaster the first 3 movies, but unfortunately I don't have the dragon box version of those movies. Also, at the time of this message I am happy to report the final episodes of the Namek Saga are uploading right now. So the now the original 53 episodes have been completely remastered. I hope you enjoy and I'll probably update or bump this thread again if and when I decide to tackle 108-276. Also please spread the link in the original post as much as possible so everyone can enjoy the original dub in a new light.

I have the first three movies, Tree Of Might being the t.v version with Ian Corlett and Ocean soundtrack.

There were actually two different versions of the Saban era "Rock the Dragon" outro. There's the original one for Episodes 1-26 and the one used from Episodes 27-53, which has updated credits. Just a minor gripe, it's great to have another way of viewing these first 53 episodes.

What I meant was I don't have any good quality rips of the dragon box DBZ movies. I have the first three movies dubbed by the ocean group, but the only dragon box versions of the first three movies I had were in a weird resolution and was pixelated slightly. I have all 291 episodes of the series in dragon box format though.

I feel like this could apply to the vast majority of fan projects, but because I happen to be reading this one...

... But hey, y'all? If you're not working from your own actual lossless rips of things you own yourself, you're not only in even more murky legal waters than you already were, but you're handicapping your own project to such an insane degree that you might as well not even really be working on it to the degree that you talk about putting in said work.

Before you get to the step that most people talk about in their projects, they need to learn the absolute basics of things like frame rates, resolution, aspect ratios, codecs, and procuring the raw digital materials from their own possessions. It's absolutely wild how far ahead of themselves most people get.

After taking a break for a couple months, the first half 108-276 of the Ocean Group/Westwood Dub has been remastered. This is includes the Trunks Saga all the way to the end of the Cell Games saga (108-179). I'm going to take a break before tackling the second of the series due to school and other life stuff, but until then please enjoy. https://archive.org/details/dbz-west-wo ... ed-108-276

You talented individual, I'm so proud of you. Keep up the great work ok!! You put anymore thought into doing a Z Kai edit? You could use the IAmTheMilkMan footage, even a cut for Blue Waters/BLT Dragon Ball. I have all these ideas just no talent to pull it off

Thank you for the support. It's been a passion of mine for a while, so to see people enjoying remasters of the Ocean Group/Westwood Dub is great. Anyway, I've uploaded up to the end of the Babidi Saga but I'll be taking another break from taking on the last half of the series due to a new job and moving. I don't know when I'll start working on the next batch, but hopefully this will hold you off until I start again. Once again thank you all for the support and here's the link below again.

Just wanted to say thank you. This is exactly what I have been looking for. I know another group has released the entirety of the WestWood dub but I much prefer your version. Any ETA on when the remainder will be finished?

Also, if you're still looking for the first 3 Dragon Box movies I have them available. I can upload them to whatever host you like.

Through consistency sake, I wonder why Westwood didn't keep the Ocean title card music. Wouldn't it of made more sense to keep Rock The Dragon intro up until the Boo/Buu sagas also.

You think you will tackle Ocean + Blue Waters Dragon Ball next?

Hello everyone. I just wanted to thank you all for the support. I've been going through a tough time in my life moving from one place to another. But anyway, the Majinn Buu Saga is now uploaded. Unfortunately due to real life circumstances, I will be taking another break before tackling the last 2 sagas. Thank you all once again and the next time I post will most likely be when I've completed one or both sagas. Also If you haven't checked it out, I've almost recreated a bunch of music from the westwood dub, so there's also that to enjoy as well.

Hey everyone, thank you for your patience. I'd like to announce that I have completed remastering the Fusion and Kid Buu Sagas and thus the entirety of the Westwood Dub of DBZ has been completed. My only regret with this whole thing was that I was unable to remaster the first 3 movies as I was unable to find any dragonbox sources for them, but still this has been a fun project and I hope that you all get experience this dub of DBZ in its entirety Thank you once again and enjoy. I'll post all the remastered archive links one last time here as well just because.

Thank you, honestly I'm speechless. I appreciate your work, I don't have Facebook but; you should definitely post in the ocean DBZ fan group on Facebook. They would appreciate your work. I know I asked you about a manga cut before, I hope it takes your interest someday. I do however have one more question, would you be doing the Blue Water Dragon Ball?
