The very first tournament arc of the entire series, and even to this day Goku has taken the lessons he learned from it to heart, for better and for worse.

Definitely also gotta mirror the joking sentiments at the end about how it was the arc that started a downward spiral of fans focusing more on power levels and feats.

Feats in a Shonen anime, the horror.

The only thing I don't like about TFS is sometimes I get the feeling they think their better than the majority of the fan base.

I’m more impressed they managed to not place every pre-Boo DBZ arc above every Dragon Ball arc.

The fact that they somehow consistently had something about Cell show up in 4th place for the past few DBcembers has been hilarious, and I'm glad they lampshaded it this time.

So it seems like the Saiyan arc is getting a second 1st place in DBcember, their first one being Goku and Vegeta's first fight.

Also, I gotta agree. There's just so much good to outweigh the bad by comparison.

T'was a fun ride. And TFS helped keep my love of Dragon Ball alive from my late teens up until, well, now. Be it DBZA, DB Cember, etc. Am I sad I'll never see them do the Great Saiyaman arc? Yes. But, it is what it is.

For DBCember this year; yeah. between the Saiyan Saga and the Namek Saga, those two redefined shounen battle arcs for the modern era.

Top 3 is spot-on with my personal top 3 (thought I often alternate between the Saiyan and Freeza arcs at number 1) but I think the Boo arc placement is very harsh. I would put it at 4.

Well to each their own, but imho the budding bad aspects of the franchise culminate at the Saiyan arc, and the series adds more flaws at this point. It may have been a game changer way back when, (along with aging up Goku in the 23rd Budokai) but knowing what we know now, and the franchise's lows along with its highs, I point at the Saiyan Arc for those reasons, and I could personally never see this arc anywhere in the top 5

The influence on later worse arcs shouldn’t impact the critique on the Saiyan arc. That’s just weird.
