Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

That won't do much for the added footage on the sides we're missing. (Which was actually meant to be seen unlike in the actual series.)Daimo-Rukiri wrote:You can crop it yourself ya know.jjgp1112 wrote:Dammit, it's a shame this wasn't widescreen. Oh well.
Re: Dragon Ball Movie 1 Dvd Dissection/Discussion
Let's do some comparisons with the spanish release (which I have around)
Hardly anything is being lost on the sides, apparently...

The 4:3 FUNi version seems properly alligned, though prefer Goku in blue than purple imo
Seriously can't wait to hear the full dub!

That's true, but it won't look as good as a true anamorphic widescreen DVD.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:You can crop it yourself ya know.jjgp1112 wrote:Dammit, it's a shame this wasn't widescreen. Oh well.

I don't give a shit whether it's fullscreen or widescreen, but FUNimation's remastering looks really good compared to the edited release and the Spanish release.

I don't mind the remastering either, probably FUNimations best imo. Though they didn't have the bump up the brightness..

Let's do some Dragon Box footage comparisons!

Re: Dragon Ball Movie 1 Dvd Dissection/Discussion
I'd almost say that many of FUNimation's shots look better than the dragonbox... slanderous, I know, but - while there are a few "crushed blacks" in the FUNimation shots - the footage on the dragonbox almost looks faded. Just my opinion, of course.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
The skin tone looks more natural in the Dragon Box version.
There's actually more detail on the Dragon Box version....Tsukento wrote:

I'm going to have to agree with you. FUNimation's shots look more crisp and bright, but I can see how someone would perceive that as a bad thing though.bkev wrote:I'd almost say that many of FUNimation's shots look better than the dragonbox... slanderous, I know, but - while there are a few "crushed blacks" in the FUNimation shots - the footage on the dragonbox almost looks faded. Re: Dragon Ball Movie 1 Dvd Dissection/Discussion
Only looks faded in comparison likely due to the fact that FUNi tends to up the saturation on their masters. Though it's evident that theirs are actually the ones that are faded - look at Bulma's skin color.

Re: Dragon Ball Movie 1 Dvd Dissection/Discussion
Hm. It seems like both the Dragon Box and Funimation versions are pretty excellent.
I'm getting this one, anyway, to support the Kai cast. And based on the clips, I hear Clinkenbeard and Rial doing really well.
Bryan Massey's Oolong can be a little startling, though, but not bad. I just can't stop of thinking of Ladd Russo.

Hmm, I like the DragonBox version better. You can see more detail. But hey, if you guys like the FUNimation version, that's cool too.

Would it be any trouble to compare the DragonBox footage with FUNimation's?

I think Tom Dubois of "The Boondocks" said it best for me when FUNimation announced the release of the domestic Dragonbox, after buying all of the Season Sets: "MOTHERFUCK!!! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT, PRICKS, SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIIIIIIIT!"

FUNi's version isn't bad but skins are too bright in FUNi's version.
Re: Dragon Ball Movie 1 Dvd Dissection/Discussion
Even then, it'd be a pain in the ass for me cause I don't have the movie 1 DVD from FUNi.Goku100xKamehameha wrote:I think he meant: "Can someone compare the Dragon Box video with FUNimation's video?"Kaboom wrote:That's... what they're already doing?.:PoetikaL:. wrote:Would it be any trouble to compare the DragonBox footage with FUNimation's?

Re: Dragon Ball Movie 1 Dvd Dissection/Discussion
Hmm, today I noticed something. I don't know the correct terminology but the opening looks very digitized. What I mean is, the lines aren't smooth, they seem very pixilated. These screen shots don't really help much but maybe you could get an idea of what I mean. This is something you'd have to see in motion, but...
You see how some of the stars in the middle look like squares?
Check out Goku's hair out line, and the band over his arm across his body, and his mouth!
But, like I said, it's something I think you'd have to see in motion. The movie is fine, it's just the intro that's like this.
