Dragonball Hindi Dub

Post by wjbraden » Mon Feb 21, 2011 3:36 am

While I was searching for the Hindi Dub of Dragon ball Z on youtube, I came across a promo for the original Dragon ball series for Cartoon Network India (but the promo itself was in India). I know that some programs on Cartoon Network India have dual audio with Hindi and English feeds, but some programs are strictly in English and some strictly in Hindi). So what I'm asking is, is that does the original Dragon ball series have an actual Hindi dub, or is it just in English.

There is a Hindi dub of the original Dragon Ball. I have a video clip. There must be Telugu and Tamil dub, too.

*Now here is a short clip.

Is it just me or does the Hindi Roshi sound very similar to Mike McFarland's Roshi?

Thank you! I have one more question, did they dub the opening as well?

That's because they imported the entire Dragon Ball franchise from FUNimation. Hindi dubbed Z has Rock the Dragon for the opening, and they always use some FUNi-names such as flying nimbus, senzu bean, and spirit bomb. Remarkably they've got Saban's edited version for early Z episodes, which made early-Z characters sound like the old Ocean cast.

Here's a video clip of 9000!!! in Hindi :)

I don't know, but maybe they did since they dubbed Rock the Dragon in Indian languages.

Thank you so much for all your help Kei 17, your knowledge for foreign dubs has no bounds. Do you know how many movie were dubbed into Hindi because I've seen some clips on youtube from Movies 1 and 6.

On an unrelated note, do you know anything about the foreign dubs of One Piece?

I don't know how many DBZ movies they dubbed, but at least Movie 1, 2, and 6 were dubbed in Hindi. Probably Movie 3, 4, and 5 were also done. Movie 1 and 2 are based on the uncut Ocean dub released by Pionner in the united states.

DBZ Movie 2 which has the Kikuchi score and American-cartoon-like sound effects

Sorry, but I do not know anything about One Piece, even the original Japanese one. :|

That's really weird about the Japanese score and the US sfx.

Thanks again.

This is slightly off-topic, but let me talk about this. :)

The most unique thing in the Indian language dubs of DBZ is the added score. As I said before, they imported the early ocean dub of DBZ episode 1 to 53, then began using FUNi's own version from episode 54. However, oddly enough, they decided to use the original Kikuchi score instead of Faulconer's, and fill up the silence by adding the extra pieces to make it sounds like Faulconer's dub score. Most of such extra pieces are from the original Dragon Ball series or early DBZ movies, and about half of them are unreleased tracks. I am really interested in how they got access to the full unreleased pieces.

Here are some samples

So they used they primarily used the Kikuchi score for the dub and also added some Dragonball and Faulconer pieces to have constant background music? Talk about strange. Although it might not be as strange as the Albanian dub that was the Kikuchi score with some weird techno background music added in.

No, they never put the Faulconer score. They put the extra Kikuchi pieces and some unkown music to have constant BGM.

Albanian dub is definitely the weirdest dub because they didn't use the ME tracks (voice-less audio) to dub the show. They used the original Japanese audio with the voices, and just muted the audio in moments when characters speak, then extended the previous music poorly or put some pieces from other scenes (sometimes unknown recycled music).

What score was used in the Indian GT dubs (if GT was even dubbed that is)? Tokunaga's or Menza's?

Because it's dubbed directly from the Ocean dub.

I pretty sure that there hasn't been a GT hindi yet.

I guess it was to save money on dubbing or something. Do you have any clips because the one's I saw on youtube were rather low quality?

But I think such audio editing costs more than just using the audio without voices. Since dubbing itself is not popular in the Eastern European coutries, maybe they did not know how to dub anime..? Anyway, nowadays they began importing DBZ Movies from FUNimation and using the voice-less audio.

I uploaded a clip from episode 53. I've got more clips on some old DVD-R, but I can't find it now.

That didn't sound that sloppy in that particular clip compared to other clips I've seen. By the way, how do you find all these these rare clips, because it usually take me a couple days or weeks to find a scrap of information xD.
