DB Drawn by US/British Comic Artists

Post by Super Sonic » Fri Mar 18, 2011 9:48 pm

Kinda inspired by the DB/DC thread, as well as having seen pics of Goku drawn by Oda, Kishimoto, and other manga artists, was wondering have you guys ever wondered what DB, or at least some characters would look like if drawn by certain artists who do Western comics? Myself, I'd like to see Goku and the gang drawn in the style of both Romitas, Stan Sakai, Neal Adams, George Perez, John Byrne, Todd McFarlane and by who many consider to be the greatest comic artist ever, Jack Kirby.

The one thing that shoots to my mind would be John Romita Jr, Straczynski Amazing Spider Man style; oddly enough it would actually resemble Burst Limit somewhat.

Just like Dragon Ball since Chapter #4.

Frank Quitely is awesome, I'd love to see his versions of the villains.

Todd McFarlane
I think he did a Naruto one, didn't he?

I'm probably in the minority, but I'd like to see Mark Bagley give it a go. I'm a fan of his style (so glad he's returning to Ultimate Spider-Man!).

Alex Ross should do some Dragon Ball artwork. He did draw Ultraman, Godzilla, and Gatchaman before. Todd McFarlane's DBZ would be pretty cool and I think DX Dragonball Creatures figures are the cloest thing you are going to get if you ask me.

Edit: SonGokuGT beat me to it, damn it!

I don't think so? I'm a huge McFarlane fan since I have read nearly comic that he has drawn and write. McFarlane toys did made anime figures of Akira, Tenchi Muyo!, and a few other animes before. I don't think they could have made Dragon Ball figures due to the rights costing so much money.

I was certain I had seen something like that, on this very board in a thread like this one. :?

Maybe I completely imagined it.

Ashley Wood's Dragon Ball would be cool to see. He work on the Hellspawn comic book run and 30 Days of Night. He tends to go for a dark and creepy type of look which could look cool for the villains in the series like Buu, Cell, and Freeza.

I wanna see Gary Larson draw the DB crew. Oh, and Gahan Wilson should draw Daimao.

I would love to see Bruce Timm take on DB. I would like to see the characters in his usual western BTAS or JLU cartoon style. I should try imitating his style a bit and draw the characters myself just to see how they would look. But I'm not sure how good I'll be at drawing BT style, I guess I could just go for the traditional western animated cartoon look. It's worth a shot.

Ya know Scarz, I was thinking I'd like to see DB guys drawn in DCAU style as well.

I know I'm no Todd McFarlane but this thread totally inspired me to make a westernized Vegeta. I'd thought I'd share him with you guys because you all sparked the idea.

I'd like to see Ed McGuinness take a shot. He's got a unique style I can only equate to The Incredibles. Much like Toriyama's, McGuinness's characters are stylized, just not in the same way.

I feel like Cory Walker working on Dragon Ball would be cool since he does the artwork for Image Comics' Invincible, and I think his style could work for DBZ.

Very nice.

I'd love to see Ashley Wood or Alex Ross draw some DB characters.

Dustin Nguyen and Jim Lee's versions of the characters would be awesome.
