1995 DB Dub Kuririn and Lunch
I was watching a commercial for the 1995 DB dub promoting the toys. I noticed that there were figures for Kuririn and Lunch, even though that dub only made it to episode 13. I once heard that it was originally supposed to be 26-28 episodes, instead of 13, but it was a failure so it ended at 13. Perhaps the had already made the figures, expecting it to reach past episode 13. Does anybody have one of Kuririn or Lunch?

Yea, I'm pretty sure it was supposed to go past 13 episodes. At the end of episode 13 the narrator says something about Goku's next adventure being a tournament to determine the strongest person in the world... or something like that.Pokewhiz7 wrote:I was watching a commercial for the 1995 DB dub promoting the toys. That, and the trading cards for the series had the episode titles for episodes past 13...
But to answer your question. No. I don't have the figures of Krillin or Lunch. They were made though, I've seen them.

IIRC, FUNi purchased the rights to the first 26 episodes, and dubbed the first 13 in a syndication package as a "first season". Uhh...I think. Not sure if they had prepared anything specific for 14-26 outside of maybe a rough script and episode titles.

Alright, thanks for your help guys. I wonder if, back then, they were planning on doing the entire series in order instead of the fucked up order they had everything in.

Just took a pic of the cards for a look at episodes that never were...
Re: 1995 DB Dub Kuririn and Lunch
Those actuallyinterest me. Episode 23 on there is "Grillin", meanwhile the title they later used was "Monster Beast Giran". It's also interesting because he name, according to those, would be "Grillan", and not "Giran". What's the name of that card series?

Seems Grllin woulda just been his dub name. And for some odd reason, I'd be OK with that. The name of the card series, I'm pretty sure is just "Dragon Ball".Pokewhiz7 wrote:Those actuallyinterest me. I'm confused. How many dubs of Dragonball are there and which one was the one where Goku and Krillin were known as Zero and Bongo?

Kendamu, have you ever seen this article about the Harmony Gold Dragon Ball dub on Temple O Trunks? You can find some info there.

I have a Malaysian dub of movie 2, I assume it would be the same cast if they did the series as well.Pokewhiz7 wrote:In English:Kendamu wrote:I'm confused. Re: 1995 DB Dub Kuririn and Lunch
I have the Krillin figure somewhere, so it did come out. I also have Sword Swinging Yamcha and I Forget What he Does Goku. From what I recall these toys were pretty well made. I believe those were the only 3 in that size? The Lunch figure was a non-posable minifig which came in a collection of a bunch of other figures.
It's interesting to note that the bigger Goku figure was also in the orange training gi only. Another cool thing is that his tail was optional, and you could pull it out if you wanted to.

Are you talking about the commercial where they have, "Fast-kicking Kuririn and sword-swinging Yamucha?" That is something I always wondered about as it was on one of the old Dragon Ball VHSes that I had. Actually I think it was on the Curse of the Blood Rubies VHS, which had Kuririn and Lunch.

Oh God...another season of THAT? With that bland music and that editing..? Perfect.
Once upon a time everything was lovely. But that was before I had to deal with people.
Re: 1995 DB Dub Kuririn and Lunch
Heh, I wonder if the fact they wanted to call her "Launch" way back in 1995 influenced their decision to use Launch when they finally dubbed Dragon Ball in 2001.
Re: 1995 DB Dub Kuririn and Lunch
Which honestly, that name change makes NO sense :/.G1Ravage wrote:Heh, I wonder if the fact they wanted to call her "Launch" way back in 1995 influenced their decision to use Launch when they finally dubbed Dragon Ball in 2001.

Re: 1995 DB Dub Kuririn and Lunch
I'm assuming they missed the pun (they do that a lot, don't they?) and decided to do a step by step romanization-adaptation. They start with Ranchi. That sounds weird, so the next choice would be Lanch, but when I say that it rhymes with ranch, so they spell it Launch, preserving the original vowel sound. If they'd paid attention to the food themed names though, they might have thought, "Lunch!"
Re: 1995 DB Dub Kuririn and Lunch
I would assume so. Most of their scripts on the redub are very similar to the 1995 scripts, so I'm assuming it's just a slightly edited version of the original script.G1Ravage wrote:Heh, I wonder if the fact they wanted to call her "Launch" way back in 1995 influenced their decision to use Launch when they finally dubbed Dragon Ball in 2001.
Re: 1995 DB Dub Kuririn and Lunch
I would assume so. I remember being confused as a kid. I had those little Dragon Ball Z Funny bone things (Is that what their called?) and they had a Lunch one. I had no idea who she was.G1Ravage wrote:Heh, I wonder if the fact they wanted to call her "Launch" way back in 1995 influenced their decision to use Launch when they finally dubbed Dragon Ball in 2001.
