My first attempt at color correction, what do you all think?

Not good. Basically the same deal as Funi's DNR, but with a different source.

Are those color corrections actually correct because that's how original anime looked like when it aired, well, originally, or because you guys just like it this way more?

It's not really the colors that are the problem, it's the DNR that was applied that removes the grain and flattens the image.

Colour correcting is about restoring warped colours back to how they originally looked, yeah.

It's the scan quality rather than the cels, which is why I always recommend ignoring broken photos that you can't fix yourself with basic white balance.

Okay I see, that looks pretty nice. A sharper image with no visible cost.

Is there good footage of Dragonball running on 35mm? Because those images are incredible. I always wondered why those images and more looked so incredible in my daizenshuus.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Toei shot their promotional shots in 35mm film when dragon ball was being in production. Most of what people are calling cel scans are 35mm shots from back then. Dragon ball as in the anime only has a few namek episodes in 35mm film.
If you scroll down toei's twitter, you'll find lots of db shots from recent film scans they did.
I enjoy tinkering with video and audio.

I'd assume a lot of these were promo shots which would make sence. They're like the 35mm stills and prop pics you used to get with press kits. If we can get a release that looks half as good, I'd be sold!

I don’t believe these are recent scans tbh. The promo shots themselves have appeared on various merch since the 90s afaik and the Funimation singles DVDs’ cover arts were these promo shots too. The daizenshuu are also full of them. Raging Blast 2 photo gallery is full of them too. As for whether they may have been recently rescanned for higher res, I don’t think so because some material that came with Orange Bricks supposedly uses very high res shots too.
