(I'm sorry if i brake any rules, i dont support bootlegs, i regret i bought it that day)
I`ve got this poor excuse of a boxset back in 2005, for 60 dollars, i didn`t know it was bootleg, i was not familiar with DBZ DVD history back then, i only wanted to start collect episodes, but every Saiyan Saga set i wanted to get had only English dub, that way i bought this on auction:
Boxset pictures:
As you can see, it`s written in horrible Engrish language, it`s hilarious mismatch of other DVDs, even one from Paramount Pictures, it contains only Japanese original dub and Chinese/English subtitles,

Menu:
It`s strange mix of footage from movies, that Dragon Box Z exclusive special, with Goku vs Freeza, Cell, Gohan turn SSJ2.

Episodes:
Boxset contain episodes 1-27, what`s strange, is that, it doesn`t contain half of episode 14 (It skips right to 15 after intermission card) and it contain only one Episode Preview, of episode 25, quality is pretty good, however, footage tends to flicker during shaking scenes. Subtitles unfortunately, are horrible, names are changed, like Sun Goku, and words are sometimes translated in Animelabs way

Saiban seeds? Are you planning to put them on trial, Vegeta?

Well, I guess it would be easy to mistake that boxset for something official when it comes to pictures. Although I can't shake the feeling that something's weird with it all... I don't know what, maybe the pictures' choices, or the way it's presented... There's something off somehow, something that feels cheap... But I guess I could have fallen for it too if I had been in your shoes, and not knowing much about DB DVDs (at least, if I didn't get to see the text, but I'll come back to that).
I mean just a few years ago, I didn't even know some people could make such efforts in trying to make an unofficial product look official (making a boxset, creating menus, having pictures on the discs...).
To me, before I learned more through Kanzenshuu (though it was actually the former site back then), bootlegs would not be subtle: that would end up being an empty DVD box they've bought and filled with a printed picture with a simple CD-R inside, and movie or episodes simply tossed in as files.
But I found out thanks to this site that they can go quite far to try to trick you into thinking it's official (although they obviously don't have the expert skills and touch of the reals owners of the franchise).
However, the English text... If something official was capable of such a mess, I would be worried! I think that's the thing that would have seemed fishy to me and made me think "no, something's not right, I should check the web for reviews and information about it first, and see if it really is high quality".

I've seen some of those episodes, too. The box looked different, but the menu is the same and I'm guessing that the footage and subs are, too. What I happened to see was some early Artificial Human stuff. When Yamcha was taken down in the city, "気" ("ki") was translated as "gas." Other literal translations exist, too, and I'm sure you've come across them already.
