The movies out today, I imagine a lot of people here will probably be seeing it soon so what was your experience like seeing the movie?

Where'd you see it, how full was your showing, was anyone dressed up, did you enjoy it, any interesting stories or anything like that to share.

I'm going to see it tonight, so I don't have any experience yet (although I finally saw the movie for the first time yesterday). I do wish it was a subbed version, though. I'm soooooo not used to listening to this dub cast anymore. I hope they manage to maintain the level of accuracy and professionalism they had in Kai, but I admit the one thing I'm dreading: Kaio. Yeesh. After all the re-casts they've done, they still have this terrible, painful voice for this character, and I'm going to be counting down the seconds for every scene he's in to be over. So I'm a bit worried about that, but I hope it's an overall good experience.

Going to watch it today also. I am pretty sure they have improved a lot as I saw the comments for the BOG thread. I never have actually gotten to watch an anime movie in the theater before so this is my first time although I wanted to watch The Wind Rises. Hope to make some friends with Dragon Ball fans and just hang out and talk while watching it on the Big Screen! :D I will post my review later

Also anybody from Nor Cal?

Gotta give FUNimation major credit for turning this into a pretty major event. It could be 2001 again with all the excitement I'm seeing over on Twitter.

I could've been watching the movie right now, except my friends and brother work 2nd shift so they wouldn't be able to make it, so I was forced to change my ticket to saturday afternoon (1:30pm, what a shitty time).

I imagine that if there were to be anything big on the movie it'd be for today.. but maybe there wouldn't be anything since I don't think the room even sold out for tonight at my local theater.

The movie theater in my area doesn't get the movie until august 14th. I made sure to pre-order a ticket last night, and I'm going to see it with a friend of mine who is also a big DBZ fan. The last anime movie I saw in theatres, or 2D animated movie for that matter, was the YUGIOH movie. I have never seen a Dragon Ball Z movie on the big screen before, so I'm super excited. I wish that a couple of the older movies could get shown at my theater as a special event or something sometime.

IT. WAS. AWESOME.

The Audio system of the theater completely blew away my experience watching it on my TV! I could feel every blow! The audience and their reactions alone really enhanced everything, as I found myself smiling along with them throughout the film. As always, Pilaf and Oolong's voices were hilarious, and I now see what the hubbub about Bulma's new actress was; she was hilarious! and Beerus and Whis's actors completely stole the show! Props Funimation!

I was very happy with the dub; I thought they did an awesome job. I wasn't sure about Jason Douglas' Beerus from what little I had heard before the movie but I was pretty happy with his performance. The dub had me laughing in a few places the Japanese version didn't. It was also fun seeing it with a crowd and it was awesome to see the theater completely full. I was really anxious to see how many of the reprising VA's handled their Buu arc characters that we haven't gotten to hear in Kai yet, but all of the VA's did an excellent job; especially Kara Edwards and Laura Bailey. Their Goten and Trunks voices have improved dramatically. Definitely an experience I hope we can have again in the future.

Over the moon happy!!! The cast did a great job, it wasn't that awful drawn out Kai acting but more like the good ole days during Z boo arc and Cell arc. Schemmel rocked so much harder than he has in years and it was great that he did his old spazzy Goku voice rather than his super serious Kai Goku. I feel like he learned a lot from his Animazement experience and realized he was over doing the character and needed to go back to being light hearted and childlike.

While I prefer gravelly Vegeta and Piccolo, Sabat did an awesome job too!!

Especially love the performances of Laura Bailey and Kara Edwards their new voices for Trunks and Goten are great.

Just an awesome awesome experience and I'm glad the movie was according to the actors somewhat of a rush because the acting was so much better than when they over think the lines. It had heart like it hasn't had from the American cast for quite sometime.

Glad I did it.

I've purchased my ticket for tomorrow night and it looks like all of the showings at the theaters closest to me are sold out, or close to being sold out. Glad I purchased my ticket when I did. I'm excited as this will be the first time seeing the movie for me.

By the way, I had the chance to see The Wind Rises in the theater, and it was amazing. Excellent film with a terrific dub.

The universe hates me.

Was going to see it, but my foot was crushed in a mishap involving helping a friend get his car out of a ditch. So, I miss out.

I have no intention of watching Movie 14 in a theater, but it will be interesting to read some thoughts here, especially VegettoEX (since he had no interest in the dub since the old days of 1999 dub of Z, but it will be interesting to see if his opinion has changed and is slowly appreciating the cast.) I hope he will go out his way of writing a review on his thoughts about the dub of the new movie, since I can't hear and all.

The movie and the audience were everything I hoped it would be. The movie has some good action, and it's VERY funny. The only thing I didn't care for was Schemmel as Kaio. I was surprised at how good the voices for Trunks and Goten were. I usually dislike them but they finally got rid of most of the rasp. The audience reaction was amazing, it was clear they knew the show well. When Vegeta stood up for Bulma, they cheered.

Glad you liked it but this is very wrong. His over the top hero voice is heard mainly in Z, not Kai. Kai is where he improved and had the childlike Goku down pat. I still don't see where your dislike of the objectively superior Kai acting comes from.

Ouch! I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you're okay and that the damage wasn't too serious.

As for our experience, I met up with OmegaRockman at a showing in Savannah and had a fun time.

i was really impressed with the dub! Schemmel and Sabat (the two voices I associate with English DBZ) did a fantastic job, and everyone else did a fine job as well. Schemmel, especially, seemed to up the ante of his portrayal of Goku IMO. I actually heard the Goku from the manga (and a little bit of Nozawa) in a lot of his line delivery, and that made me very happy.

From what I could tell, the dialogue was very faithful to the original with some added jokes here and there. I found several of the jokes and interactions rather funny, especially Goku's introduction to Beerus. Hats off to FUNimation for doing a respectable job on the dub, and working to get this into theaters: it's made my anticipation for the eventual (Director's Cut) Blu-Ray even stronger.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

I really liked the dub Funi had. The dialogue was true to the Japanese version and all the voices were on point. BoG gets some hate for its large amount of comedy but everyone in the theater was laughing the whole movie ( except for the final Goku vs Beerus battle)

Considering we're in the Kai era, I expect scripts to be pretty faithful overall and not train wrecks like the older DBZ movies.

Will post my experience tomorrow! Did want to go today, but everyone I was going to go with (my brother and cousin and maybe a friend as well) wanted to do it tomorrow.

So, fresh after having seen the movie for the very first time, I went to watch the dub at my local theatre. In anticipation for sold out crowds, I bought a ticket online yesterday. However, when I got there, I walked straight in. There was nobody anywhere to check my ticket!

The theatre was pretty full but not to capacity. There were plenty of open seats around me. The commercials played. The theatre got dark. The screen went black. And stayed black. And stayed black. Oh, geez. I remembered the ticket I printed out had the phone number of the theatre on it, so I called, said what happened, and within five seconds of hanging up, the movie was playing. Don't know if that was because of me or just fortuitous timing, but I'd like to believe I saved the entire showing.

Just as I suspected, the only thing about this dub that really got under my skin was Kaio. Good grief do they need to recast him. I liked the lines they wrote, but that voice alone nearly ruins everything. The script, as far as I could tell, was mostly accurate, and the few liberties they took seemed genuinely funny. The non-Kaio members of the cast were all really good. Everyone laughed. A lot. It was a very good crowd.

The one thing that worried me was that when Pilaf first showed up, I heard a few groans from the audience. The Pilaf subplot was my favorite part of the movie, so I was disappointed but not terribly surprised that I might be surrounded by "HARDCORE ACTION DEE BEE ZEEEEEEEEEE!" who just wouldn't tolerate any kind of lightheartedness. Thankfully, they all seemed to get into the swing of things. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, though, but it sounded like Mai claimed to be 31 in the dub. Hopefully I just misheard that as that would screw up the age problems even more and make her several years younger than Blooma, which she technically is at the moment, but you know what I mean. However, that said, it seemed like FUNimation attempted to repair an inconsistency in the original script, as, after Piccolo tells Mr. Satan what Dende is, Satan replies that he'd forgotten and had just tried to block it out.

Anyway, it was a great experience, and I kinda wanna go back and see it again while I have the chance. I still have my ticket after all... but that would be naughty, I guess... :P
