Is this Dragon Ball Figure a bootleg?

Post by TheKingOfKamehamehas » Wed Oct 01, 2014 8:24 pm

The problem with S.H Figuarts is that they don't have a well priced Vegeta figure and I see this often pop on Ebay so I am wondering if this is actually real? The package does at least look real.

I don't see anything in the original OP such as a link or photo...

However the SS Vegeta S.H. Figuarts is HEAVILY bootlegged by a Chinese company named Datong. Bootleg boxes have Chinese(?) text on the front.

An official box would look like this:

It will have either a Silver or Gold Toei Sticker. Gold is for the Japanese release... If the text on the box looks different, it's bootleg.

The Bootleg packaging looks like this:

Notice there is no Bandai logo, authenticity sticker, or English text on the front like the official product.
I have a Dragon Ball collection of sorts which can be seen here.

I guess Vegeta tends to be a rare guy...Is this bootleg any good?

It's not just Vegeta that is rare. If a character in the line is more than 6 months old, you can generally bet that they are going to be difficult to find for a reasonable price. All the figures in the line (other than the initial manga colors SS Goku, Piccolo, SS Gohan) are produced in a moderate quantity and are VERY unlikely to ever have more of them produced.

His Super Saiyan version tops the price though. Manga Gohan is pretty expensive though so is there a reason he is so high priced? Heck I find it more expensive than Cell and Frieza.

Everything I just said basically already covers your questions. SS Vegeta was one of the first figures in the line. I do believe he was actually the first Japanese Web Store exclusive after the initial 3 manga colored figures were released (meaning he won't be getting a reissue), so that's reason enough for him to be expensive. Gohan's manga version was one of the first figures in the line too, but he's also the only one of the initial manga-3 to not have an official reissue yet. The fact that the anime version is an even rarer SDCC exclusive release and that the manga version is the only highly articulated Gohan that has an SS2 head doesn't help either, as collectors had been wanting one for a long time.
