The future of Dragon Ball on home media

So I made that thread yesterday about wanting Funimation to release the Toonami dub (by the way, please move all discussion about those efforts to my previous thread), and it got me thinking about what the future holds for any further releases of Dragon Ball on DVD and/or Blu-ray.

My ideal wish is that when Toei finishes airing and releasing Kai 2014 there might be a possibility for a proper Blu-ray restoration for Dragon Ball. I'm talking rescanning the film into 4K and throwing them onto 1080p Blu-ray discs, color-corrected for high definition viewing. And maybe if the people on this forum ever have any luck with returning their broadcast recordings to either Funimation or Toei, perhaps one of those companies would like to remix the Japanese audio into 5.1ch with stereo-remixed SFX, center-channel voices lifted from the higher fidelity TV recordings, and CD-quality BGM. And correct me if I'm wrong, but GT would also have stereo audio as base instead of the mono that came from the optical tracks on the Dragon Box. And maybe since the 30th anniversary of DBZ airing on TV is in 2019 that would give Toei (we'll just assume it's them) enough time to put it all together.

All of this is just wishful thinking obviously, but in the words of Beau Billingsley, "A boy has the right to dream."

Now Blu-rays for DB and/or DBGT i'd like to see, and realistically possible. The levels being continued or more Dragon Boxes (with Faulconer as an addition for Z)

If you're referring to samples I posted in another topic - that was a pure fantasy. It's completely unreal from the practical side. They would need to create audio tracks for 153+291+2 x ~20min episodes from scratch. It would require not only doing a 4.1 mixes of the SFX-only and music-only track, but it would also require making them perfectly synchronized with the original broadcast placed on the center channel. It would require an extremely big amount of money and time. By the way, using original broadcast on the center channel would be far from how 5.1 mix should sound: It would not allow to move the source of sound as it moves on the screen.

The restoration process itself it way to expensive and if you add audio restoration, it makes the entire project ten times more impossible than it is.

But as I proved many times on this forum, I do not pay much attention to reality and I am working on the letter to Toei, TAVAC and Nippon Columbia.

I am not interested in the outcome of this campaign. My only purpose is to make this job as good as I can. I am not Toei's producer. I am not the one who should think about the budget, the market etc. I am a fan and my job is to “create demand”. What they will do with it? It's not my concern.

Something tells me that if every Dragon Ball fan would think like I do, we would already enjoy a perfect Blu-ray release and a complete BGM collection...

I wouldn't mind if they gave the Kai redubbing treatment to all of DBZ.( I've heard such great things about their scripts....)

I'd like a proper blu-ray set for Toei. I have Funi's first blu-ray set and while it's much better than the orange bricks I'm not exactly rushing out to buy the other eight sets. Aside from that though, I'd like an American Dragon Ball Dragon Box (wishful thinking) and future movies.

Give me a Blu-Ray release of the various TV series with a 4:3 aspect ratio and the Japanese broadcast audio, and that's all I'd really want.

Until then, my Dragon Boxes and Kai sets will do me just fine.

Just watch Kai then. The dub for it is definitely much better-produced, better adapted, and quite faithful to the original.

Doing another re-dub of the original DBZ would be pointless when you have Kai. Kai and DBZ are the same shows expect for Kai has little to no filler. Not to mention Funimation give us the Ultimate Uncut dub in 2005 which stay more faithful of the Saiyan saga and the first half of the Freeza saga compare to the 1996-1998 dub with the Ocean cast. The Orange Bricks also went back and re-edit things in the 1999-2003 dub as well.

I feel like you have Kai then the original DBZ is pretty much pointless. It's not like with a movie remake such as Godzilla (1998), Planet of the Apes (2001), House of Wax (2003), Halloween (2007), Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) and Total Recall (2012) where the remakes are much different from the original and suck big time.
