Strange things you hear fans say

Post by ShadowDude112 » Fri Mar 20, 2015 3:38 pm

I wanted to make this thread just as a fun little thing for people to share their experiences with fans who tend to say really strange or stupid things. This is for all versions of the show too.

Starting off, I was hanging out with my friend at Play N' Trade and he worked there and let me hang out and go behind the counter. On the TV, they were playing DBZ Season 1, because the store owner had the whole show there to watch. I knew my friend would watch Naruto on Hulu there in Japanese with subtitles. So I asked him if I could change the voices to Japanese. He allowed it. But instantly, he started dissing stuff. Like saying "battle power" sounded stupid, or that Piccolo's voice wasn't deep enough, along with saying Nappa didn't sound good. I looked at him in awe, because, he watches Naruto in Japanese and he's fine with that, but when it's DBZ, it's like everything is awful about it.

Another one was when I was on Youtube back in like, 2008. I was watching a video of SSJ Goku vs Freeza. There was a comment saying something, I believe it was a speck of dust next to Freeza, was one of Dr. Gero's spy robots. When I told him that was impossible since Gero said they didn't go to Namek, he instantly refused that and just told me I was wrong.

I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.

To be fair, I'm the same way; it's not really strange. I mean, I still like DBZ subbed, but nowhere near as much as the dubbed version. I prefer the English names of the characters, and I don't like Kikuchi's OST or Goku's Japanese voice. On the other hand, I prefer Naruto subbed over dubbed. Not much difference there except the VAs.

Gohan is more important to the story then Vegeta.

Toriyama should stop writing new stories.

The debates over what and what isn't canon.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

People who think Vegeta was more important to the franchise than Gohan before these new movies came out.
People who totally ignore what a canon actually is in favor of their own made-up definition of the word.
People who claim to be fans of this series who continually bash every bit of new information about it because it doesn't jive with their pre made conceptions of how things should be.
People who say that the series needs more blood and gore and holes in the chest to be taken seriously.
People who say that the series is not for kids.
People who say that they dislike Broly just because of his fanbase.
People who take power levels waaaaaay too seriously when it's pretty clear that the author intended no time of inherent consistency for them.

-Mr. Satan could take on anyone pre-Z era (no joke).
-Japan likes the FUNi dub more than their version of the series.
-Kuririn made Lazuli into a human with the dragonballs.
-Gohan tried to revive #16.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

-Dragon Ball Kai is kids version of Dragon Ball Z
-Gohan didn't defeat Majin Boo because Goku fans in Japan complained to Toriyama
-Broly is invincible
-Toriyama is a ruining Dragon Ball and should retire
-The never ending What-Is-Canon-In-Dragon Ball debate
-Dragon Ball Z should rarely have humor

I agreed with everything you said except for this. I don't see what's strange or hard to understand about this at all. Can people not be fans of the series if they don't like any of the new stuff?

Honestly, I think threads like this have a large risk of turning into taking shots at what other users are saying in different threads on this website.

Apparently you didn't read the second half of the sentence you quoted.

I have nothing against not liking new stuff. I myself have a huge problem with Toriyama's recent reveal of their being 3 Kaioshin, without any kind of explanation as to why the manga says otherwise. Even the Buu Origin retcon at least takes the effort to say that the story given in the manga is wrong.

What I do have a problem with is people using things like their made up rules for how power levels work to discredit new stuff. Or statements like "Goku acted like this once in some part of the story, so it's out of character for him to act differently now." If people don't like new information because of their personal interpretations of things not lining up with the new information, that's fine. I just find it odd that it is constantly belabored at almost to the point of parody. We get it. Some of you don't like the new stuff. There's no reason to bring it up Every. Single. Post. If you don't like it, ignore it.

I did read the second half, and I thought that was just making a generalization/assumption about why people don't like the new stuff. Because that has been happening a lot.

Even then, still don't see the strangeness at all. I don't see why new material has to be assumed to be correct over interpretations of a decades old work. To me, at this point anything is arguable.

And really any given group is being just as repetitive as the others at this point.

Dragon Ball is a R rated series and is not for kids
Dragon Ball should be dark and gritty

That's what I have for now.

Spoiled fans: We want more Dragon Ball.

Toriyama: Here, Battle of Gods.

Spoileds fans: WTF is this?! This isn't DBZ. A Cat Villain that gets mads over puddin?! So much Comedy?! 80% the movie is filler.
Tired of Goku getting spotlight. Make Vegeta being the hero for once. Also tired of saiyans, give some attention to Piccolo and the other z fighters.
And make it more serious. Dragon Ball is serious business!

Toriyama: Here, Fukkatsu no F.

Spoiled fans: WTF is this? Freeza is back?! Why Roshi is fightning?! Where's Goten and Trunks?! Toriyama you're gettting senile. Stop ruining the series. Go retire old man!
A world without Dragon Ball is just meh.

I find it funny that fans want Toei to do Dragon Ball on their own again. Do fans really want boring and generic villains with zero personality, depth or any type of development like Bojack, Super #13, Broli, and almost everyone in GT. I feel like the writing in the 2008 Jump Special and BOG is better then mostly what we got from Toei in the 90's.

Also lame comedy with zero wit, exaggerated characterization, plothole galore, and childish fight scenes.

Most Dragon Ball Z fans tend to favor flash over substance. Hence why the design of SSJ God and Gold Freeza was frowned upon by many for not looking over the top.

I sometimes see fans that exclusively refer to Goku as Kakarot. It isn't wrong but it is strange.
sintzu wrote:Gohan is more important to the story then Vegeta.
I don't know if that is that strange considering he does have a large amount of screentime and does have a pretty big moment that involves him defeating a main villain. I'm not saying he is more important but it is arguable.

Why Gohan in the Boo Saga is called a wimp despite the bravest incarnation of Present Gohan..... and why BT3 is generally regarded as the best game in the franchise among the fandom.

I'm fine with Freeza coming back since it been so long since Goku fought him. Yeah Freeza was in Fusion Reborn, anime fillers and GT but I don't count those. It's better then having Appule being wish back and becoming stronger then SSjG Goku.

I think it was possible to revive him cuz Freeza was a monster thus getting the eternal torture treatment.

- "Broly" is the best character/villain in Dragon Ball/"Broly" is the strongest out there.
- Dragon Ball Minus is better than Bardock's TV Special.
- Being too literal to the point of saying many bullshits.
- Dragon Ball GT is canon/Dragon Ball GT is better than the previous Dragon Ball series.
- Applying the meaning of "canon" from another franchise in hope it works in the same way.
- Dragon Ball Online is a shit game.
- Vegeto is stronger than Gogeta (considering only the manga).
- Bardock "should rest" inside a shelf.
- Super Saiyan 2 is a lame/the lamest transformation.

There are more, but I can't remember now.
