This is the one worthwhile development of Gohan's character in the Boo saga. Gohan's hidden power was always caused by his mental "blocks" or repression of emotions; once those were removed, he really did "grow up." Would've been interesting to see him truly go toe to toe with Piccolo-Boo, who has the advantage of knowing Gohan since he was a boy, but not as the mature adult Old Kai Mystic-ed him into.Rocketman wrote:It's outright stated in the manga that the Mystic ritual removed Gohan's soft nature and unwillingness to fight.

Yeah, I was gonna bring up the Kid Buu destruction. THAT killed some kids.dalome wrote:AT didn't want to kill a kid.
AT least not In a bloody way.

There were kids Saiyans when Freeza destroyed Vegeta.
Re: Gohan: Why must he continue to Disappoint ?
Honestly... After the Buu arc I really do not care. I hoped Gohan to be more of a "fighter" after the Cell saga... But he again returned to "normal" thinking everything will be fine forever... Even after his dad sacrafized himself for him and the earth
Than Mystic happened, which i still think is one of the worst stuff happened in the series for exactly the reasons we are discussing now...
And now he again isn't training with hope of everything being all fine or that Daddy and Uncle Vegeta will rule everything is out... And oh... Where is Mystic?

Yeah, but we don't see It.
It is censored.
And their death was while being unconscious And In a big explosion.
Even the killed namekian kids were not as bloody as for the adults namekians.

While not as brutal as the mom, we still have a dead kid here.dalome wrote:EXBadguy wrote:Yeah, I was gonna bring up the Kid Buu destruction. THAT killed some kids.dalome wrote:AT didn't want to kill a kid.

Well at least Future Gohan goes Super Saiyan 3
Re: Gohan: Why must he continue to Disappoint ?
And it is awesome I must admit, just like Future Son Gohan indeed is.
Thank you, Dragon Ball Heroes. Now, give him Super Saiyan 2 to look even better.

Until you got that glass, wait a little more for Son Goten... Aside Bardock, he is the only one left. xD (then we have Pan but I think she has way lesser popularity than her uncle).dbzfan7 wrote:I'm waiting for SSJ3 Glass of milk.

Of course we have dead kids.
But again, no blood. And he is very far, we don't even see his face.
There are a lot of manga with kids who die In a more shocking way. Ares, HxH, Vinland saga. Even if It is always hidden a little, it is still more shocking.
And some horror manga I forgotten the name.

Re: Gohan: Why must he continue to Disappoint ?
Totally agree. Buu Saga could've handled Gohan better, especially after the greatness he displayed in the Cell Games. But still, I can't say I was disappointed with his performance in the saga. The Great Saiyaman was a delight and Ultimate Gohan was a complete badass when he fought Super Buu. The only thing I really minded was how he stopped training and toyed with Super Buu, which showed that he didn't learn his lesson from the Cell Games.fadeddreams5 wrote:
Gohan began as an innocent little boy who never fought in his life, yet had incredible potential; to a slightly older child that was trained, but terrified to raise his fists; to a young boy prepared to fight to save his friends; to a warrior who was reluctant to fight to the death when there was no need for bloodshed in the first place; to someone who learned that sometimes there is no reasoning to be done, and pulling the trigger is the only option if you want to protect the things you care about. This was Gohan up until the Cell saga.
After this, the realization of his powers, all the lessons he learned in the Cell games, the death of his father, and birth of his brother could have given him the incentive to take over Goku's role and train. Not because he likes it, but due to the fear of something like Cell endangering his family again. He's different from Goku. He doesn't like to fight. But you know what else he doesn't like? Seeing his loved ones hurt. As the saying goes, "with great power comes greater responsibilities." You'd think this had motivated him. Additionally, he could have also kept up his studying!
But no...he slacked off, turned into a pansy both in and outside of the battlefield, and lost a chunk of his powers. He gains his mystic form without having to train at all, but he fails to do anything with it. Then, he slacks off again, and he loses his powers in both Toei and Toriyama mediums. To add insult to injury, they continue to change his character design to make him look lamer and lamer. It's like urinating in someone's grave. Gohan is honestly the most disappointing and mutilated anime character I have ever come across in my entire life. Possibly of any show.

Re: Gohan: Why must he continue to Disappoint ?
While I do not like Gohan I have to say... Toriyama really dropped the ball with him.
If he did the mistake introducing the Mystic form he should use it right now as well... No but now he only goes Super Saiyan and he even haven't known for sure if he can (He said he guess he can go Super Saiyan)
Why not at least Super Saiyan 2.
What pisses me off more is the fact that Toriyama doesn't even try to explain the lack of it... What does he hope? That we have forgotten it? One of the most powerful forms ever? He should at least explain it to us... And even more to you Gohan-Fans.
A simple explanation as "Gohan have lost it cuz he hasn't trained" or a silly "it was time limited if not used" would be eneough.
But simply ignoring it is weak and isn't fair to all his fans
