The only reason that Dragon Ball has a higher age rating in the west is due to certain things (such as sexual humour and violence) being frowned upon in children's media. That doesn't make it somehow more mature than other children's cartoons, and if the target demographic for Dragon Ball is 8-12 year old Japanese boys, then 8-12 year old American boys will draw just as much understanding and enjoyment out of the series as they do.

If you put boobies and blood in Teen Titans, then it would still be a kids' show.

Other then Kai on Nick Toons and CW, Dragon Ball hasn't been market to kids in a long time. Funimation keeps the series uncut since they know that their main buyers likes to watch the series uncut. In Japan, Dragon Ball is mainly market to kids from 4-12. By 13 or 14, most kids stop watching Sunday morning anime and start watching more late night anime or whatever popular live action drama TV show is on TV.

That's like saying Terminator is only rated more mature because of the violence and the sex scene, but other than that. Yes, if you change those things you will get a lower rating. To target American children of the same age group and get past BSP, you have to make edits. Teen Titans would not be a kids show if it had nudity and lots of blood.

But the whole point of this argument is that some adults don't like to admit that they watch a show made for children. They justify it by pointing out instances of swearing and violence, but the fact still stands that the material that they are consuming is very puerile and unsophisticated in nature, as a result of being a kids' show. Its simplicity and silliness are just as apparent in any culture. Just because it contains "adult themes" sometimes, it doesn't make it any more mature of a show. You're probably just kidding yourself in suggesting otherwise

The point I was making is that yes, the show is made for children, but Toriyama's frame of reference is Japanese children. If the story was created by American and was targeting the same age group, the story wouldn't have been as violent and there wouldn't have been nearly as many sexual jokes. This has nothing to do with the level of sophistication.

Maybe someone else's, but not my point.

I also find it baffling people complain about the "peace time" episodes. Its like some people think this show should be about constant fighting or constant battles.

Some of my favorite episodes of the series are where everyone is just going about their daily lives in peace time. The slice of life episodes are the best.

"True fan" bullshit, more like wannabe fanboy
hate to break it to you but true fans dont go around dictating what we should or should not like
Its just now occurred to me that some people will not be happy until everyone else is bullied off the community
and that is really sad and pathetic
