I just got back from seeing it with my Dad and Brother. The crowd was okay, but there was someone right behind us that would not shut up. Every time Goku got hit by Freeza, he said "my spirit!" Is that a TFS reference or something? Overall, the theater was okay, aside from him being obnoxious. Everyone laughed when Tenshinhan said Yamcha and Chaozu wouldn't be able to handle the fight, and they also cracked up when Freeza nearly killed Gohan with one punch, and everyone's laughter at that made my Dad angry.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie. There was some good fight choreography, and Goku and Vegeta's interactions were excellent.
. I thought the dub was great too, but Roshi sounded too forced and raspy compared to how he used to. It almost sounded like his Buggy voice. Also, did Kulilin have a One Piece ringtone?
Ajay wrote:Will be interesting to compare the Japanese audience reactions with the English ones. The biggest one I recall from my viewing is when Bulma's talking to Whis and says something along of the lines of "That totally evil asshole Freeza has come back to life!". Freeza looks really mad and responds "asshole?!" (kusottare?!). That got some pretty loud laughs. How was that handled in the dub, by the way?
It was the same, but it was translated as "scumbag", rather than asshole, which is a valid translation. There was laughter at that scene, but there were others that got more of a response.

Krillin has a One Piece ringtone because his voice actor also voices Luffy in Japan. A little tongue in cheek reference.

I know that (Mayumi Tanaka), I wanted to make sure I heard it right.

Speaking of how well Jaco has been received (again, my audience loved him), has anyone else noticed that Jaco the Galactic Patrolman is currently the #1 Best Seller in Children's Manga on Amazon.com?

Who knows, maybe we'll get a Jaco special someday, much like the Bardock and Trunks specials.

The turn out for this movie in Alberta was a lot bigger than last year for BOG. The first showing, which was tonight, was sold out.

I got my ticket three weeks in advance but unfortunately, my friend thought they could get the tickets last minute only to find out it was sold out so they were forced to loiter the mall until the movie was done.

The movie itself was pretty freaking good, I liked it a lot more than BOg for content-wise. It was a lot more engaging and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen.

The audience in my area wasn't as bad as some of the ones I've seen posted here. There was of course laughing, but no one really yelled anything during the actual movie. However, before the movie, a trailer was shown for "Slugterra: Eastern Caverns" and immediately everyone started booing. Is this common during anime movie screenings because that was the first time I heard people actually booing at a trailer.

This ended up working perfectly since tomorrow is the start of my area's anime convention. No big name DBZ FUNi voice actors this time around, though Brina Palencia will be there. Brendan Hunter will also be there, but I'm not sure I will see him. We'll see.

So, I had a FANTASTIC theatre experience on Thursday. It was just great. The show I went to, in NYC, was sold out completely. It was crowded and packed. When I saw BOG IN the city the theater wasn't nearly as packed. It was like half-filled. This was like a midnight showing of a big summer movie. There were even costumes. Although the trivia was easy, it was fun to do it with the crowd. The audience got into that before the movie. Yes, they also laughed at Sonny Straight for some reason. I'm not sure why, lol.

I knew the general plot outline of the movie, but none of the details so it was my first time to really know the full gist of ROF. I gotta say, I saw a lot of negative feelings on this forum regarding it as a "shit story." While I'll admit not much happens in terms of big revelations, I found that to be a gross understatement of how good the movie was. There was definitely a great mix of humor with action and it did feel more like DBZ felt during the Namek arc, if a little more light-hearted. I found the stuff with Jaco to be really funny, I loved his characterization. I was expecting the crowd to be fairly casual and not know who he was but I was surprised how many people DID know. In fact, maybe we're underestimating how well informed casual fans are these days. Most of the people I talked to were aware of Jaco and aware of Super and have even been watching it. These are old-school dub fans! I think in 2015, even the old dub fans have a good idea of what is going on in the series in Japan.

But back to the movie!....

The audience reacted a lot at my showing. Things in particular were:
Everyone really was into the movie and it was so much fun to see it with other big fans. I gotta say, it may be my favorite DBZ movie now. Yes, even more so then BOG. I'm a big Toriyama humor fan and a big Japanese fan but this dub was great and I actually did enjoy the movie feeling kind of like old school DBZ mixed with a bit of BOG humor. I think it might have been just the right touch. The sprinkled in nostalgia factor of it being Freeza was a better pay off then I expected. I really did love seeing him back. He's such a little shit of a character haha. It was a great movie.

I'd rate it 8.8/10

I actually bought it 2 weeks ago at Barnes and Noble to know who he is before I see the movie, so I see how sales of that can go up before the movie.

Actually, US Krillin (Sonny Strait) is Usopp, so it works on both levels!

Well, I saw it at a movie theater last night in LA. I'll give a short review and a long one.

SHORT: It was an awesome dub...of an OK movie. None of the issues I had with the movie were related to the dub, but rather, with the movie itself. I'd say the movie was about a 7/10...but the phenomenal experience of seeing it in a giant, sold-out theater made it feel like a 10/10!

LONG(ER): Man, what a great time!

Since this wasn't opening night, and the theater I was seeing it in was huge, I was worried that the turnout wouldn't be particularly good. I mean, I figured I wouldn't be the only one there of course, but I thought I'd have plenty of seat options. Well, good thing I arrived 25 minutes early, because by then the majority of seats had already been filled. I'm not joking, there wasn't an empty seat to be seen by the time the movie began. I didn't count the seats, but if I had to take a guess--a conservative guess, mind you--I'd say there was 130 people. Probably more...as I said, I'm being conservative.

There was a handful of kids, but most of the audience appeared to be my age...mid-to-late 20's. Which I thought was so cool upon further reflection. I mean, think about it...this thing that I started watching when I was 11 still endures to this day! If anything, I think that age demographic is where you'll find most DBZ fans in America nowadays. It almost kind of felt like the Dragon Ball characters grew up with us, in a weird way.

The pre-show...eh, not necessary, nor a highlight, but not cringe-worthy either. It was fun. Some of those trivia questions towards the end stumped even me (how many planets did Freeza conquer?), and it was fun to see the logical deductions of the voice actors when they weren't sure of an answer. For example, with the, "How many planets did Freeza conquer?"-question, I believe it was Mike McFarland who said, "Well, this is DBZ we're talking about, so I think the highest number is probably the safest bet." Considering how absurdly powerful these characters are, I can't fault him for the logic! I also liked when they asked Sonny Strait what animal Greggory was, and his response was, "I'm going to say 'cricket,' mostly because it's right." The crowd also loved when Monica Rial, upon getting several answers in a row wrong, responded with, "In my defense, I was playing Bulma, and she was drinking throughout most of the last movie."

The audience went crazy when Chris Sabat and Sean Schemmel appeared on screen. I smiled at that.

Then the movie started...the audience, myself included, got into it from the first frame. The whole opening section had some great comedy in it, and the audience laughed hysterically at all the right moments. Jaco went over pretty well, but the moments that got the loudest reactions--both in terms of cheers and in terms of laughter--were Goku and Vegeta's interactions. The chemistry between those characters was great, and it's obvious that Schemmel and Sabat now have an excellent grasp on the relationship between the two.

As for Freeza...............I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I think casting Chris Ayers as Freeza was the greatest casting decision in the history of Dragon Ball dubs. Talk about a complete and total understanding of the character! Also, some of you will be happy to know, I saw it with a friend who never really got into Kai because he didn't like that some of the old voices were gone. When I told him Freeza was going to be played by a new voice actor, he sounded hesitant and bummed. But five lines in, he turns to me in the theater and whispered, "Whoa...dude, he is really good!" I looked back with a smile on my face and whispered "I know, right? He's awesome!"

Like I said, the crowd was really into it throughout the whole thing. If I had to pick one moment that got the biggest reaction, though, it was probably Vegeta's fight with Freeza, and the lead-up to it. As immature as it was, I couldn't help but smile when I heard a guy way in the back, when Vegeta went SSJGSSJ, shout, "F*** HIM UP!!!" Yes, it was completely immature, but the spirit of it was too damn infectious, and between that and what was happening on screen, the crowd just burst out in a thunderous roar of cheers.

Having said that, I'd be lying if I said I liked this movie as much as BoG. BoG broke the DBZ movie formula in so many places, had a lot of character moments, and was full of tension. FnF, by contrast, stuck to the formula, didn't have as many character moments, and the fights began to feel long-winded and without tension at times. It seems like Goku and Vegeta were just toying with Freeza throughout the whole movie, rather than putting up a nerve-wracking fight. They either needed to add more moments of near-loss for Goku and Vegeta, or increase the number of character-oriented scenes. I think BoG was a little light on action, but it came far, far closer to my preferred balance of character moments and action than FnF did.

Now with all that said, I didn't dislike the movie. It just didn't blow me away in a, "I honestly didn't see that coming"-way like BoG did. It's still a good movie, and I'll definitely be getting it when it comes out on video. I think it's fair to say, though, that my theater-going experience had a lot to do with how fun the experience was. As a theater-going experience, it was a 10/10 experience that I'll never forget, but as a movie in and of itself, I'd say it's just a 7/10.

The movie may not have been particularly special, but damn, the theater-going experience sure was. When's the last time any of us went to a movie where the crowd was that into it? Where they were enthusiastically cheering, vocally rooting for the good guys? I for one can only recall one other instance, and it was when I saw the first Avengers movie. I didn't get to see BoG in theaters due to some unexpected family events that ended up taking my time, but it sounds like it happened there too. I pray that Toei keeps releasing more DBZ movies, if it means I get to do this again. To sit down and enjoy a movie from a franchise I fell in love with at 11 years old, with over 100 people who felt the same way...pretty damn special.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

My wife and I went to see "Resurrection F" yesterday (Thursday) and had a great time. Money's been a bit tight, so we haven't been going out for a while, so this was a really nice change of pace.

It was a truly wonderful experience because we missed out on seeing BoG in Theaters last year due to me being very sick (I know, it sucked real bad). It was so much fun for us to finally get to see DragonBall on the big screen. Additionally, since we didn't go on opening day or on the weekend, the theater was not packed and the people who were there was very low-key. This made it even more pleasant as my wife and I are also low-key and didn't want to be surrounded by crazed, screaming teenagers.

I used to watch that. I watched every episode actually. I even remember seeing some of your other videos with both you and the person who became your wife in it. Yeah that was years ago.

Didn't know you were on here.

The cinema where I was was rammed. Did anyone else see the 'digital poster' of Resurrection F? It just pumped me even more up for the film. It shows Frieza's ki in full movement (basically, waving upward. Like he's powering up). And, a few lighting bolts flashing in the background of the poster every 2-3 seconds.

I knew what to expect from this the second I heard that the "action lovers" of the franchise gave Battle of Gods a "meh" rating. While I adored BOG. So, this was destined to be an all out slug fest the second it was green lit.

Thankfully, Toriyama made it work. It was my 2nd time seeing it. And, sure, at a glance the plot may seem ordinary. But, watching it for the 1st time was unforgettable for me. As it was for everyone in the theatre. People were hooked on every line. Expecting 1 thing and being met with another; laughing when they least expected it. I love this film. It's an excellent addition to Dragon Ball. Last bit: the fight vs. Frieza this time had its own distinct identity and flow. It did not, in any way, try to copy the tone of the original Frieza fight.

One genuine laugh from an audience that wouldn't shut up: when the logo showed up and there wasn't a song, someone exclaimed, "thank god!"

There was a collective quasi-orgasm when 18 cut Krillin's hair. I've never seen circumcision porn (probably because most grown men would never consent to it), but that's what it seemed like.

The choreography of the Freeza fight was lazy and unimaginative, the power levels were indeed bullshit, and Vegeta's vengeance against Freeza is criminally undercooked, but there was still some authentic drama in there. And for the only time post-Boo, it kinda-sorta made more sense not to fuse.

I went and saw the movie again on Wednesday with a bunch of friends from high school that I hadn't hung out with since graduation. two of them that lived nearby came over and we watched Battle of Gods, one of them I saw BoG with last year and the other one who has never wanted to watch Dragon Ball and isn't a fan of dubbed anime to my surprise, watched all of Dragon Ball and a few episodes into Z and watched it in English. The theatre we went to also didn't show the pre-show. was a bit quieter when it came to audience reactions. when the credits started rolling, half the theatre walked out and one of my friends asked if there was a post scene so we waited and all of them enjoyed it. some of them liked it more than BoG.

Got back a few minutes ago. Pretty much SOLD OUT here. I had two empty seats next to me, and I could see a couple empties down the front, but that was it.

One very young kid who started to cry, but luckily they were seated well away from me. Enjoyed the bloody hell out of it.

I just got back from the theatre so I'll share my experience with you all.

The theatre my friends and I were in was small but packed. Everyone watching the film with us was awesome, no meme shouting, no interruptions and no crying children. Totally cool people.

I watched the film in 3D and it wasn't too bad, it was by no means a distraction but it wasn't anything worth paying a few more dollars for.

When the movie finished everyone applauded and I absolutely love it when that happens.

As for my thoughts on the film... I'll go in depth on the Resurrection 'F' thread but to put it into a few words here... It's my favourite Dragon Ball movie.
