Kanzenban Spine Image

Post by SonGokuGT » Thu Mar 16, 2006 2:03 am

I found this online the other day and thought you guys would love to see it! There was talk of people scanning it, but it seemed to be too troublesome, but oh well, I guess patience pays off, neh?

So that's what it looks like. I only have the first three Kanzenban, so it's nice to see what image it makes.

It's cute and funny, though I kinda prefer the tankoubon spin image better (even if Yajirobe is in there twice).

Agreed, but only because the tankoubon have more characters. However, I do like the addition of Agnet Purple and King Piccolo in the Kanzenban, and where else will you see Vegeta in shorts?

Is that supposed to be Gyumao w/Chichi?

I don't see Ox King or Chi-Chi anywhere on there. And who's in that first dragster?

Oh, and Vegeta, on a tricycle, is pure gold. XD

I think Gohan is in the first dragster.
Even I became a loser when I made one of these...

Yeah, it looks more like Yamcha. Also, look at the 12th and 13th spine images-- I think that's supposed to be Gyumao with younger Chichi, Xyex.

EDIT: If it is Gyumao, then Toriyama must have ran out of room, because you can only see his torso and arms  .

Actually, that seems about right, when Gyumao first appeared he was so huge he'd make Hagrid seem like a small guy.

Funny how he somehow "shrunk" to just being plain tall and wide later on, as opposed to being REEEEALLY big. XD

Kind of like how Vegeta "grew" as the Freeza Saga went on.

Maybe that's Vegeta from when he was still w/Nappa. Aside from Piccolo and Vegeta's appearances, all the characters are 21st budokai and Red Ribbon Army sagas only. That's 21st budokai Yamcha in the first dragster.

thanks, I'd been wanting to see this since I ended up buying all 42 volumes of the first just before they began distributing these. I wasn't gonna waste money buying it all over again for some color but this is a very charming spine image. Vegeta in shorts makes me laugh.

Unfortunately, that's because the kanzenban spine image depicts all the characters Toriyama could still remember.

I don't doubt that. After Pilaf, he only wanted to go as far as the Red Ribbon saga. It was during the budoukai that he truely fell in love with it. Piccolo+Vegeta were probably "I'm only 57% sure these other guys came from DB, so I'd best only put Piccolo and Vegeta."

Well, that explains why there's only people from DB and not DBZ.

EDIT: Also, he probably wanted to put more of the earlier characters here, since the tankoubon mainly had characters from later on. (I mean, you'd think Toriyama would at least put Pilaf in the original!)

Do you ever wonder how Toriyama knows how long the image should be to fit the spine? I mean, he was one volume off in the tankoubon (SSJ Goku's leg's getting cropped off). I guess He was informed beforehand this time around to avoid the same blunder.
