People in general don't wanna take responsibility for their actions. They think that just because they hide behind a keyboard they can get away with whatever they wantRee wrote:no i agree, and worse than that people have the nerve to say "SHE FAKED IT"Cure Dragon 255 wrote:Am I the only one a bit disturbed by the "It was just attempted suicide! She didnt do it! ". Its already past unforgiveable that they pushed her to that point. I'm not saying that about the SU fanbase, but GOD.
they dont want to take responsibility for cyberbullying

This is an interesting thread and I kind of wish I took a better gander at it sooner.
I try my best to not let things like Twitter and YouTube comments affect my fandom, because there are hateful comments on those sites everywhere and reading any of them over a span of time will kill your brain cells. I still believe that Dragon Ball in North America has a bad fanbase, perhaps moreso than other franchises, but my views on it has changed recently.
Most of that can be attributed to Kanzenshuu, actually. I'm not a member of any other type of fan site, but from what I've seen from other sites this is a pretty cool place. People like to complain a fair amount and debate here, but very rarely do I actually see people personally attack each other. Heck the first day I joined and made a post, I got a lovely message from DoomieDoomie911 welcoming me to the forum and I thought that was really cool (thanks again!). After spending some time here and following some folks on Twitter, I sat back and just kinda said "You know what? I actually like this community a bit." That's kind of a good feeling to have honestly. The dark sides of the fanbase won't go away, and I think a lot of that can be attributed simply to Dragon Ball being so popular, but I've seen the good and I actually think that it may get better over time now that people are actually starting to invest more in the original series and the improved dubs. I don't think the DB fanbase is as bad as some of the other ones mentioned and a few new ones popping up like Undertale. We have a lot of work to do, but there's hope.
That was really gross, sorry guys.
I typically don't tweet at performers or "famous" folk very much, but I do like to send things to community members from time to time. I also try to filter what I say, of course. I'd be lying if I said idiotic stuff like the tweets to Chris Ayers don't bother me, because they do, but as I said before, I take those with a grain of salt. If we ever got "Steven Universe bad", where we start bullying people to the point of attempted suicide over fanart, I might reconsider my stance on our community, but luckily I haven't seen it be that bad (yet).

Good to know she survived. I find it hard to believe that a fandom would drive someone to attempt this. I'd imagine it was more of a factor, rather than the entire reason.Big Momma wrote:Assuming you're referring to Zamii; If it makes you feel any better, it was only attempted suicide and she's alive and well right now. Still a little bittersweet though and it doesn't make the SU fandom not terrible (As is the case with most Tumblr fandoms).
Yeah, I don't get that either. Very strange.ABED wrote:One thing that really irritates me is when people on social media tear you apart for not liking something they do or liking something they don't. It can be just one thing and they blast your entire taste in films, TV, music, etc. I know this is minor, but they make things personal. I said I don't like Fury Road and holy crap do people come out of the woodwork to insult my entire taste in movies. It didn't matter what other films I consider in my top ten, the fangs came out. Why do things have to get so personal especially over things that aren't that consequential? I get it, art is very personal, but the kneejerk reaction to resort to attacking people over something so varied and subjective is over the line.

They think like that because 99% of them do get away with it. The biggest problem and puzzling aspect of it is lack of actions from authorities, in pretty much all countries. If exactly the same comments/threats/insults as we see on social media literally everyday were printed out and sent in traditional letter form, there would be investigations launched with likely court charges. Yet when it happens online, it's like it doesn't matter to the police. MRAs, SJWs, every fanbase, every social group, housewives, grandmas etc. We're at a point where everyone is sending death threats to everyone, on a daily basis. And nothing happens. Countries/regions that are seen as 'super serious' and consious about social issues and crime like EU (scandinavian countires in particular) or US don't really do anything more to actively punish cyber threats/stalking/bullying than other regions. Recent 'revenge porn' story was probably the first time most people even heard about someone getting punished for cyber harrasement.Naruto6583 wrote: People in general don't wanna take responsibility for their actions.
