Original Dragon Ball Series English NEPs
I've been searching for quite a while, and I can't seem to find any information on whether or not the original Dragon Ball series ever received any English-dubbed NEPs. And if it didn't, why not? Both Z and GT aired on English-speaking TV with previews, so why not the original series? Funimation even dubbed Dragon Ball before GT, so why abandon NEPs and then go back and put them in again?
Even if it's not a Funimation cast dub, I still would like to track down English previews for a fan edit I'm thinking about working on.

Re: Original Dragon Ball Series English NEPs
NEPs are just straight-up gone from all of Funimation's DVD releases of the series (besides the Dragon Boxes for Z), because apparently that was one of Toei's conditions for allowing them to do a DVD release in the first place (trying to curb reverse-importation by having something only available on the Japanese release).
From what I remember the DBZ dub broadcast (and probably GT too? Didn't really watch when it was on TV) was pretty spotty on whether a NEP actually played or not, which I'm inclined to attribute to the network cutting them to squeeze in some more advertisement time. It therefore seems plausible to me that Funimation might've dubbed the NEPs for the TV broadcast of Dragon Ball (at least initially), but they ended up getting cut by the network and because of the no-NEPs-on-DVD thing they'll just never see the light of day.
This is all conjecture, of course.

Didn't the GT singles include Funimation's previews?

Toei letting Funimation have the series but not next episode previews is like giving someone a PS4 without an HDMI cable -- it's such an insignificant thing to leave out and yet it poses more of a nuisance than anything.
From what I remember, Funimation did their own next episode previews for DBZ that aired after every episode. Some of them are included as extras on the single DVD releases (to preview the first episode of the next DVD). With GT, they had the next episode previews which they dubbed. But for the life of me, I don't remember what they did with Dragon Ball.

Dragon Ball doesn't have any NEP's.

Did Funimation actually make their own NEPs? I was under the impression that Toei did send them the NEPs but with no Japanese audio (at least for season 3 onward).TheGreatness25 wrote:Toei letting Funimation have the series but not next episode previews is like giving someone a PS4 without an HDMI cable -- it's such an insignificant thing to leave out and yet it poses more of a nuisance than anything.

As for the topic, I don't recall Dragon Ball airing on Toonami with NEPs. I think they cut straight to the end credits even on the TV airing. I remember when US season 1 of DB ended and looped back to the beginning I had no idea what would happen next, but when US season 5 of DBZ ended and looped back I knew from the NEP that Vegeta's sacrifice was in vain and that Buu survived.

I feel that for Z, the NEPs didn't have the boarders and seemed shorter, so I thought Funi did their own. They certainly did their own when they were cutting a bunch of material and reduced the episode count.

Sorry if it wasn't clear, but yes, I meant there are no NEPs on any of the DVD's. I'm unsure about the broadcast versions or the VHS releases.simtek34 wrote:In English there aren'tABED wrote:Dragon Ball doesn't have any NEP's.

Re: Original Dragon Ball Series English NEPs
The original Dragon Ball never had NEPs on the American Toonami broadcast.
