No, absolutely not. The French movies 1-6 are cropped transfers, and are of worse quality than Funimation's cropped DVDs, from what I hear.
The nicest-looking release of movies 1-3 in 4:3 is Funimation's "Ultimate Uncut" DVDs.
They meant Dragon Ball Movies 1-3 not DBZ.

Yeah, I meant the Dragon Ball Movies 1-3 but since he said the French box isn't worth it then I guess I'll stick to the FUNi DVDs. Wouldn't mind buying DB Movies 1-4 on Blu-ray that FUNimation remastered but they haven't released it physically.

Zima has, though.

ZIMA's Blu-rays are Latin Spanish dub-only and it's not even a dub I care about. I'd buy if it had Japanese + Eng subs.

For the DB movies you want the 2005 release of DB Movie 2.

It has English text, unfortunately.

That only applies if you're watching it dubbed. As with all the pre-Orange Brick releases, alternate angles were included when watching in Japanese, which use the Japanese text.

Ah, yes, I didn't realise. Damn, why can't everyone just agree to switch to numbering the movies continuously?

No, I don't think the French transfer is the best one. The HD Funi releases of DB movies 1, 3, and 4, then the oldschool DVD single of movie 2 are the best releases of those. Movie 2 has the 12fps decimation issue on the HD master, so unfortunately it's not workable. The HD versions of 1, 3, and 4 aren't affected by this though, so they're good.
The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

Really? Shoot! Should have gone with the newer DVD set then, oh well. I won't buy them now as I'm just going to hope FUNi releases the DB Movies 1-4 on Blu-ray, preferably as a one or a two pack bundle than one per Blu-ray.

I think you misunderstood. PRE-Orange Brick releases had alternate angles. The newer stuff doesn't have alternate angles.

As I say, you should get the oldschool DVD single for movie 2. The newer DVD set uses the HD transfer downscaled to 480p, and being as it was released after the Orange Bricks, it has English text, with no Japanese text option. The oldschool DVD single for movie 2 was released before the Orange Bricks, and thus it does have Japanese text.
If you can get FunimationNow, that has the HD transfer of all four movies in their proper HD format, and uses Japanese text.

I would love Funi to do a Blu-Ray set of the four DB movies, but I don't see that happening any time soon. :(

It may or may not because FUNimation has apparently remastered Movies 1-3 and 4, the fourth one looks really good to me and I'd buy it on Blu-ray but FUNi themselves haven't published it so neither am I going to import a dub-only release from Mexico (prefer to watch it in Japanese with English subs).

Say, do you have any screenshots of DB Movies 1-3 on Blu-ray?
For the Dragon Ball movies, there's also these 4:3 releases on DVD by Hong Kong distributor Universe at YESASIA:

DRAGON BALL 1: The Legend of Shenron (DVD) (Hong Kong Version)
Dragon Ball 2: Sleeping Beauty in Devil Castle (DVD) (Hong Kong Version)
DRAGON BALL 3: Mystical Adventure (DVD) (Hong Kong Version)
DRAGON BALL 4: The Way to the Strongest (DVD) (Hong Kong Version)

Screenshots (credits to the original uploader(s), links to shots of the 10th anniversary movie were broken where they were all found)
ImageImageImage
Judging by the screenshots alone, they could've looked better but if anyone could confirm these have the Japanese title cards and credits intact, that would be great. I don't think an uncensored 4:3 release of the first movie like that exists.

Define "uncensored". Despite English credits, the Remastered Funi DVD is uncut and has Japanese audio.

Sorry, I meant uncut with the Japanese title card and credits, such as Funimation's DVD releases of the movies during the early to mid-2000s.

Thanks, I wouldn't've guessed the frame rate issue with the second movie would've gone as far as that release too; it's astonishing to think Funimation's version from 2005 is still arguably the best.

Well, for movies 2 onwards, the original DVD singles have both.
For movie 1, the streaming version of the Funi HD master uses Japanese title cards, credits, etc.

It's a shame there isn't a way to own that version yet as well as the abandonment of alternate angles altogether in Funimation's releases. Even the original Japanese versions of their cropped Dragon Ball Z movies can be streamed but not bought on physical or digital formats.

Actually, the streaming master for movie 1 (and movie 2) is missing the opening credits.
