How much would you pay for the complete series of GT?

Post by ShenEvil44 » Wed Feb 28, 2018 3:15 pm

Hello,

I don't usually write on these forums, but I figured I would get a good consensus about how much to spend on the whole GT series. So, what's the most you would spend on Funimation's GT Complete Series Boxset?

For the "complete" set on Amazon anyway, the lowest it has ever been was $17. Right now it's only sitting at ~$2 above its lifetime average at ~$28.

A less-than-50-cent-per-episode ratio is pretty darn OK I'd say. I wouldn't go above $30 for it, so it's in a pretty good place.

Depends.

If the DVDs used the high-quality stereo audio masters that Toei are known to have had all along, probably like £30 or £40.
If the DVDs included the Blue Water dub, probably about £40 or £50.
For neither of these things, probably £10 or £15.
The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

I'm actually looking at the U.S. release from Funimation.

I recently picked it up at a Wal Mart for $19.99

Now, having said that, how much WOULD I spend on it? I probably wouldn’t have picked it up, had it been any more than $30. GT wasn’t an essential part of my collection, but when I saw the whole series wrapped up in a nice little package for $20 I thought “what the hell”.

Mm, yeah, looks like it's ~$23 at Walmart right now. If you can pick it up there, that's even better than Amazon right now.

I bought it for 22 bucks on Amazon some time ago.

I think that's a reasonable price for 64 episodes and the movie that is included.

Is $16.99 the lowest anyone found for this set? Did anybody find it around $10-$15?

At the time I spent 40 bucks on the series, which at the time was pretty good. That was probably my limit, as I didn't want to pay to pay 30 to 40 for each set when they first came out.

Do note that I said £10-15. That translates to about $13-20 at time of writing, which seems to be about what you can expect to pay for the GT box set these days if you're willing to wait for a decent sale to be on.

Our local wal-mart has the green brick for $20. I feel like that's a very fair price for what you get.

If you're willing to take a used copy, I bought one for 12 bucks off eBay a few weeks ago. Long as the discs are good, I have never worried too much about the sets being brand new. Having said that though, yeah, Walmart is usually a good place to get them for a decent price. Complete Series usually for 20-30 bucks, Seasons 1/2 for about 20 each.

I think I got both sets for around 30$ but that's a bit much compared to the 23$ it's going for on Amazon so I think that's a better price as you get 64 episodes and 1 TV special.

So, as a result, I managed to score the season 1 and season 2 boxset both new/sealed for $22 in total on eBay(shipping included). Anyway, thanks everyone for your feedback!

You got it for a decent price but I'm surprised no one here mentioned the Dragon Ball GT - Singles (the original FUNimation DVD release). The Singles version featured the original Dragon Ball GT logo, Dragon Box-like video quality with some awful compression (mind you) and the NEPs were all included (in Japanese and English).

The downside of this release is that it only has the Menza music but for fans of the Japanese version this is irrelevant.

In fairness, Funi's dub of GT sucks anyway, so you should be watching in Japanese.

As for the compression, I still maintain that issue is overblown, but if it really bothers you, you could just collect the Madman GT singles instead.

The compression never really bothered me too much and collecting the FUNi GT DVDs was hard enough because they used -tion titles than use "Vol. __". I ended up slapping numbers on each DVD. :P

Actually, those DVDs were already numbered. Just look at the bottom right of the front cover.
