Watch the pilot episode of Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon and Tiger Mask on TOEI's YouTube Channel
Doesn't seem like it requires a Japanese VPN so you can view with your own.

Here's hoping they'll also add DBZ, DBGT, Digimon and other pilot episodes.
Um, goes without saying this is in Japanese, no subs.

Does anyone know what video master was used?

It's the full first episode of each of these three series and you get to experience in its authentic Japanese version. I quite appreciate things like this as most people these days don't want to spend a cent and prefer to get it as cheap as possible, or preferably, free.
Re: Watch the pilot episode of Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon and Tiger Mask on TOEI's YouTube Channel
You can watch Sailor Moon subbed for free the whole series excluding specials and movies on Viz.Com with limited commercial interruption
You can watch Dragon Ball on Hulu or FunimationNow for less than $9 USD a month. And both offer free months trial which you can probably watch 153 episodes or close to it depending on your free time
Also tangent but are pilots actually a thing in Japan like in Nortb America?
I know a lot of people use pilot interchangeably with “first episode” but they’re not actually the same thing

Not sure if I'd call the first episode of DB a pilot. Kei17 brought up several times how there was a pilot that was used for the voice casting auditions. I believe clips from this pilot were used in commercials for the show that aired on the finale of Dr. Slump.

I still remember when Hulu allowed users free of charge to watch with ads but now it's a paid service much like Netflix. These days, every streaming company is trying to compete with Netflix as strange as that might be. Even Amazon doesn't stand much of a chance against Netflix but it's the best rival it has, or that would rank as.MasenkoHA wrote:You can watch Sailor Moon subbed for free the whole series excluding specials and movies on Viz.Com with limited commercial interruption

First I've read about that. Looks as though it's some rare footage not many have seen but hopefully that'll be available.DB1984 wrote:Not sure if I'd call the first episode of DB a pilot. Looks like the Dragon Box to me.Tian wrote:Does anyone know what video master was used?

Seems to be, yeah. Though strangely enough as I Alt+Tab between my DVD of the Dragon Box and the YouTube version, the YouTube version is slightly zoomed in. The colors aren't exactly the same either but they're pretty close.KBABZ wrote:Looks like the Dragon Box to me.Tian wrote:Does anyone know what video master was used?

See the clip of Bulma and Oolong at 0:34? That may have been from what Kei17 was talking about.

If you wanna get technical for second, the Dragon Box is actually zoomed out so much so in some episodes that you can see the round corners of the 16mm film frame. Looks like Toei fixed this for streaming.Forte224 wrote:the YouTube version is slightly zoomed in

Right, I just meant zoomed in compared to the Dragon Box itself.clutchins wrote:If you wanna get technical for second, the Dragon Box is actually zoomed out so much so in some episodes that you can see the round corners of the 16mm film frame.
