Thanks I'll ask you for help once I can get a hold of them.

Though it appears that this SSUltimateGoku guy appears to be on an entirely different level than either of those points you mention.
Yeah, it's scary.
I know right, i read some of his posts in that linked thread and thought "Geez, what planet does this guy live on" given how much he was going on about the dub but his comments didn't read in an oh my childhood nostalgia kind of way. I mean there are people who are nostalgic for it, but he seemed to be over the top obsessed with it and that genuinely made me do a double take at certain points with how much he was pushing it.

DB collection related goals as of now:

1.) Find decent priced copy of Dragon Box Z Vol. 4 (Done)

2.) Collect rest of manga

3.) Get rest of Daizenshuu (2-7)

It adds dub and sub. It basically takes whatever is on recent DVD releases (Blue Bricks, Orange Bricks/FUNi Dragon Boxes, Green Bricks, DVD Movie Packs/Steelbook Movies, Bardock/Trunks 16:9 DVD) and re-times their subtitles and audio options to the Japanese Dragon Box video. It's really nice. And yes, it takes a LOT of time.
How hard is it to do and i guess you have to watch it on the computer? I've had my Japanese Dragon Boxes for probably 5 years had no idea this was an option :O

I was thinking of eventually doing this sometime down the line, likely by gradually getting the Japanese singles for Dragon Ball and the movies over a period of time then using the program to put subs on them.

Yes, you would either have to watch it on your PC or burn it to blank discs. If you want lossless quality (like I have) you'll need a lot of hard drive space (all 5 Boxes with subs and dubs are 765 GB on my hard drive) and a lot of time (I should have logged my hours. But it takes a long time). It's somewhat difficult to get set up, but once it is, the whole process is automated. Read up on it in the links below. PM me if you want:

Some people are just DUMB. Someone literally responded to my comment on the comparison video when I said, "shot on film," as if that's not what Dragon Ball back in the 80s & 90s was produced & said it's NOT supposed to have grain because "anime is drawn." Like, what? Some true dumb people out there.
Like, look at this shit. https://twitter.com/Scsigs/status/1116052959010410496
THESE are the people FUNi keeps pandering to & it's clear they need an education into how film & the animation industry works, particularly Japan's in the 80s & 90s on that last one. God, with how many informative videos & articles out on the web explaining how these things work, you'd think people would actually look into these things before saying anything.

Remove the sharpening filter, and reduce the red, too.
Just give us the raw film as anyway i don't understand why they bothered cropping to 4/3 when screens are 16/9, just give us everything, we'll get less black bar and all the image.

i am impressed by those screens, so they have all 291 episodes raw films in HD look a like level sets but they dare and managed to destroy everything as much as now it look like an upscale...they should fire all their technical staffs
Because, as seen in a few of the screenshots of the raw film, the edges are aged & damaged, so to leave it as-is would ruin the experience. Then, if you watch AnimeAjay's video on the first trailer, he showed some of the animation cels & they weren't exactly completed drawings, so not zooming in at least a little bit would most likely show that like during one of the early Z films where, if you watch the 4:3 version of it, Gohan's Masenko wasn't drawn after a certain point because they knew it was gonna be cropped to widescreen anyways & didn't bother drawing the top of the blast. That's the kind of stuff we're talking about here.
DBZimran wrote: Wed Apr 10, 2019 5:49 am I think it is about time we take it into our own hands and do a De-Remastered release. Anybody interested? I have broadcast audio and video for comparison and usage.

The way the Star Wars fandom De-Specialised the original trilogy has always impressed me.
It was actually 1 guy, I believe, who did Star Wars: Despecialized. He found multiple video & audio sources & reconstructed the films painfully & piece by piece & upscaled it to have an HD representation of the films as they originally were. However, if we get a fan project going with multiple people at the helm, I'D love to see it. Hell, there's already the Recut project for removing the remaining filler in Kai & Z, which would make this a great companion piece to.

Gdugz wrote: Wed Apr 10, 2019 6:16 amI will definitely not be buying this set
I would only recommend this (assuming it releases in separate sets later) to fans who don't have the dragon boxes, the season blu-rays or Kai.
I might buy it out of curiosity & if they show they're actually taking this seriously & change how they're handling the project. They already have all of the film scanned into their computers, so all they'd have to do is tweak some settings & so some other things to change what they've already done to make it a suitable & restored release. I've already downloaded DVD rips of the Dragon Boxes with the dubs mixed into the files, so it's no skin off my nose if they fail at this, honestly. I'll just be disappointed. They should REALLY put the Dragon Boxes back in print & release the ones for DB, GT & the movies & specials, though. Just to give us an alternative.
DBZimran wrote: Wed Apr 10, 2019 7:48 am Primarily through colour correcting the Dragon Boxes, but to be honest we have had a thread on here that has been attempting to do that for years.
I swear I hope they just release this untouched. They have admitted it is catered towards hardcore DBZ fans. Presumably the same target audience the Dragon Boxes were catered towards. Why are they not listening to our feedback? The fact that they made that blog post is proof they are reading what is being said.
They're stubborn & stupid people, that's why. Did you read the arrogance of how the approached the DVNR & such?
MadSpecialist wrote: Wed Apr 10, 2019 8:32 am Just found out about the blog post which seems to have been taken down since. Did anybody save all of the before images? They might be the only way we ever get to see those frames that way.
In my discord server. It's not taken down, by the way.
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

Gohan's Masenko cut-off is well within the overscan cutoff for CRTs of the day, I think, so there's that to consider. If that were to be done today I think a slight crop would be applied so you couldn't see it.

Yep. That's a very time consuming project which is why I personally prefer to rip my DVDs and then remux them in Matroska containers so I can add as many dubs and subs as I want. Besides, I've not burned a DVD in about 5-10 years nor would I really want to.

Yeah, it's not a project for everyone. Watching on a burned DVD (or in my case, on my PC) definitely takes away from the experience of just popping the actual disc in, kicking back, and watching it. But it's worth it, for me at least.

I agree here. There's something about taking the disc out, popping it in, going through the menus and hitting Play that makes it feel much more like... I dunno, a finished product, rather than just playing an .mkv file in VLC and switching the subtitle track. Not to mention it being on the TV and you're snuggled up onto the couch.

Well, I can hook my TV up to the PC and chill on the couch no problem, but it isn't a great solution. Still, it's worth it for me. I attempted to watch the Blue Bricks DVDs instead and then I'd switch to the Dragon Boxes for Z, but, there was way too much "ewwwww" going on with the Blue Brick picture.

If this was a real hardcore DBZ release with Level Set quality then they could've easily charge $500-700 for it.
That's what I'm thinking, this set should've been the Levels. Or like, some middle ground between this and the Levels. Those sets were great, and they could've made a bunch of money off of them if they just repackaged them into Seasons later! But instead they jumped the gun and made Orange Bricks 2.0.

You can play mkvs on the TV pretty easily if you have an Xbox One or PS4, just put the files on a flash drive and run them on VLC/Movies&TV/whatever the PS4 equivalent is. I don't think there's autoplay so you gotta pick up the controller every episode, but hey.

Well IMO if you're the type to put your controller on the other side of the room every time you watch a movie, you're doing something wrong.

Man, only about 6 days have passed since that first YouTube video was released. It feels like an eternity has gone by. I had no idea how to judge picture quality until about a year after the 2014 Blu-rays came out, so I never experienced the outrage of the Orange Bricks or the Blu-rays. I heard things here and there but just kind of ignored it. Now that I understand...man this whole thing sucks. I feel bad for those of you who are going through this for the third time (fourth and/or fifth time if you count the cancelling of the UUEs and Levels in the same category). Hopefully enough of us voice our thoughts so that FUNimation changes things.

The best case scenario is that FUNi listens, decides to fix the issues, releases an update blog/YouTube video a few days from now, and then the pre-orders shoot up to maximum that same day, sending a true message...................................................hey, a man can dream.

I tend to use Plex Media Server to watch stuff off my PC on my TV, saves the hassle of hooking the PC up to the TV.

It flows precisely and fluidly from where things left off in the aftermath of the 23rd Budokai and mostly hits the ground running from there without really stopping to look back. You're plopping someone into the middle of a book starting at chapter 195 out of 519 for absolutely no good goddamn reason, with very minimal opportunity to look back at much needed context and character/story growth.

The thing is, we have that entire giant thread of color-correcting the Dragon Box footage. While that source doesn't have the best resolution, getting the whole series corrected would basically make it serve as a perfect baseline to all other fan projects, sort of like the broadcast audio floating around online. That's honestly all I would need, even if I'd like better resolution.

Just for fun, I popped the raw film screenshots into iMovie & hit "enhance." The automatic color correction in iMovie is MUCH better than the manual color correction they're doing. THAT'S how bad this shit is.

We've been doing that for the past few pages. Go to Funimation's site and submit a support ticket; that's the best way to get the people who make decisions to hear your voice on them matter.
