The season sets are probably the worst out of the bunch, followed by the 2013/14 Blu-Rays.

Definitely, the Orange Bricks are absolute garbage video quality wise and the Season BD's are only a very marginal improvement at best.
DB collection related goals as of now:

1.) Find decent priced copy of Dragon Box Z Vol. 4 (Done)

2.) Collect rest of manga

3.) Get rest of Daizenshuu (2-7)

The resolutions of these are terribly inconsistent and not useful at all for comparisons.
The Black Brick screenshots are 738p instead of 1080p, the Dragon Ball Kai shots are 542p instead of 1080p, and the shots from the Dragon Box Z sets are 542p instead of 480p. I don't understand... :0

Oops, it seems as though the media player i use on my computer apparently sucks at taking screenshots in the proper resolution. That, or when i posted them up on Imgur to put over here they got over compressed from the actual original image files themselves. :?

It's okay. Imgur only compresses if the file is over 5MBs I believe, so maybe it was your media player. I use MPC-BE x64 (Media Player Classic - Black Edition for 64-bit operating systems).

Yeah i took them on VLC, so it most likely must have not captured them at the proper resolution.

From the Remastered Dragon Box Z DVD-BOX by Selecta Visión:

"Citizens"

"Farmer"

"Gohan"

"Raditz"

I'm not gonna lie, this release looks really good to me and had FUNimation done just this (or just release it raw) as a standard Dragon Ball Z release on BD/DVD, everyone would be satisfied because Z was never meant to be seen in 16:9 AR. If people really want Z in 16:9 AR then watch Kai 'cause that's actually a genuine remaster and it was made in mind for 16:9 TVs.

That does look pretty good, it seems they straight received and released the Japanese Dragon Box footage and yeah it would have been good if FUNi had done the same here and made their version not limited time like it ended up being.

Hey all! After seeing the website Frame Compare used in the FUNi 30th Anniversary release's thread here, and I got inspired to make a few of my own!

Mine compare the FUNi Black Brick to the other 3 releases most say are the "best" out there. The Dragon Box Z, DB Kai, and FUNi Raw Reel. You'll notice I decided to zoom them all in to match the most zoomed release's screenshot. I chose this so we could easily compare the style and quality of remaster, rather than be focusing on how zoomed in or out each release is.

I compare the Dragon Box Z, Dragon Ball Kai, The FUNi 30th Anniversary release, the FUNi Raw Reel (zoomed), and the non-zoomed Raw just for fun :) Right now I have it done for two screenshots, though I really enjoy doing them, so I'll probably make more in the future.

Enjoy!

Can you upload a screenshot of "Goku and Gohan" from the Season Blu-ray version? The remaster between the 30th Blu-ray and the Season Blu-ray seems nearly the same with some minor differences, imo.

Cant edit my post, so I apologize for double posting. But two more uncropped shots (not the best quality as they are a screenshot of a camera recording the video screen. But just to see what the full image is

Also, (beta)Season set uncropped vs the final product

But the shots of the Black Brick that were posted on Funimation's blog are in 1080p. Why did you shrink them down to 720p, then say you had to shrink down your 1080p screenshots of the "season" sets to 720p to match? Just let everything be in 1080p. Otherwise your post is utterly pointless. Half the detail is lost when you scale the image by 50%.

I previously uploaded screenshots to PostImg too but noticed it downgrades it to 720 so I just switched back to Imgur.

Pretty much what Johnny Cash Kami said. Didnt realize Postimg did that because I chose to not scale down... hopefully framecomapre will work

I currently can't get framecompare to load, but does framecompare allow for a full 1080p? The reason I haven't been using it is becuz I couldn't find any way to view the full image. It was always the scaled down version.

The 30th Blu-ray release is nearly identical to the Season Sets but in 4:3 AR so that's an improvement but is it a huge one considering all of its flaws? In my opinion, no. If I was stuck between the Orange Bricks, Season Sets and the Black Brick then I'd rather go with the OBs since the picture doesn't look like a water paint.

It's a shame that FUNimation is the English anime distributor licensed to remaster Dragon Ball Z on DVD/Blu-ray because they always fuck it up. The only time they did it right was with the Level Sets and they cancelled that after 39 episodes. :(

It's not perfect, but here's a v2 of the Goku Gohan, cliffside including the Blu-ray Season Set. The Black Brick looks like a decent step up, quality-wise compared to the Blu Seasons!
