Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release
I mean, if it's true that they're about to give the 30th anniversary set a regular, stamdard release, wouldn't that be the ultimate way to watch the series aside from the Dragon Boxes? Would be a really nice cost-effective way too, if they were priced like regular (the season Blu-rays).
Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release
I actually think the last two seasons of the Orange Bricks look better than the 30th Anniversary Set, with better colors and no/reduced DNR, but at least it's not cropped. It is the best way to own the UUE audio, since it's the only 4:3 release to get to episode 67. In fact it's the only 4:3 release with all three audio options. So maybe? I still think the singles have the best combination of price, picture, and content (i.e, Japanese title cards, original English dub).TheGreatness25 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 05, 2020 4:15 pm I mean, if it's true that they're about to give the 30th anniversary set a regular, stamdard release, wouldn't that be the ultimate way to watch the series aside from the Dragon Boxes? Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release
While I've always cherished my singles, they're just so impractical. Three-to-four episodes per disc -- that's crazy. I also feel like they had a terrible time with blocking and getting weird lines in the picture sometimes (especially when there was lots of movement). I did enjoy the unique menus and sometimes, they had the odd, fun special feature. And Japanese title cards! It's such a shame they stopped with those. Like, why?KPike87 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 5:24 amI actually think the last two seasons of the Orange Bricks look better than the 30th Anniversary Set, with better colors and no/reduced DNR, but at least it's not cropped. Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release
I've got no clue why they gave up on title cards. I'd assume just to keep one straight line video without angles... But the OB's had them, so that's not it, they just... Stopped. I do agree with the singles being impractical, it's just the least of all the evils.TheGreatness25 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2020 9:28 pmWhile I've always cherished my singles, they're just so impractical. Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release
I got my first double feature in the mail, but came to learn my single Android 13 DVD doesn't seem to work. That sucks. Still, going off Bojack as a base and eyeballing Android 13, I think it looks darn good:

http://www.framecompare.com/image-compa ... n/7GPK7NNX
The colors are definitely oversaturated, but that's about the only real complaint I have. I personally prefer the 1.78:1 aspect ratio for the movies, but both are correct. Despite being oversaturated, the hue of the Blu Ray's are so much better. There seems to be light DNR, but grain is still mostly intact and is pretty sharp. I noticed this shares the same characteristics as the last two Orange Brick releases: http://www.framecompare.com/image-compa ... n/7GPKLNNX
What's the consensus of the Blu Rays? I think I'm going to retire my non Pioneer single movies with them, and I'll still get the first DF for Japanese.

@KPike87 Here's the 30th BD shots for those two while I still have them on my drive till Madman ships out my set:
Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release
The colors are still partying like it's 2007, but at least the blacks aren't crushed like earlier Funi releases. Piccolo's gi actually looks purple in the second screenshot!BluezaBladeNZ wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 9:58 pm @KPike87 Here's the 30th BD shots for those two while I still have them on my drive till Madman ships out my set:

Thanks! The lineart is from my Weta leaving card, and I had it coloured in to look like the Full Colour Mangas!

Here's a shot showing some love to the old Pioneer and Rock the Dragon editions.

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release
Where is the first picture of goku and shin from? It almost looks like a redrawn scene from kai 1.0. The 30th anniversary shot looks great in my opinion. Its great that everyone has a chance to own the series in 4.3 now, especially the namek episodes.

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release
Their raw footage before any zooming or touching up of the picture is done.

Why can't the boys at the Funhouse take their raw footage and digitally remaster the original footage without cropping, DNR-ing it to hell and back, smearing the fuck out of it, oversaturating it, or turning up the contrast way too high?! God, I hate seeing another shitty DBZ release; even though I really wanted to get the Dragon Boxes for my 13th birthday which was on December 6...but they're out of print and expensive as hell :'(

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release
It's been a while, but there's a new release on the horizon from Selecta Visión. Looking through the thread regarding the release brought up a series of 16 images that this Spanish source claims is uncompressed 1080p footage linking to the Selecta Visión website.
The statement run through google translate since I'm not a Spanish speaking person.
So, I got the uncompressed images and matched them to my 30th copy. Each image should be frame perfect.
