That's depressing to hear. He was definetly one of the highlights in the english dub of dragon ball, his voice kinda gives off a sort of bedtime story feel that I think really fits the original series.

The man had a great voice and definitely stood out among the FUNi cast.

I wasn't a fan of his narrator or Ginyu, but he was clearly talented.

Also it looks like he was married for over fifty years and had six children? That's something.

Definitely preferred him as a narrator over the others. I understand this wasn’t an option for Kai but I wish they had used him as a narrator for Z when they were doing the redubbing to connect it with Dragon Ball better instead of Funimation treating it like the lesser prequel.

Not a fan of his Lord Slug. Something didn’t sit right with me about it and I’m not sure why.

Even some latin american sites are mourning him. Just like some USA sites mourned Jose Lavat. RIP Brice.

I was never a fan of any of the Funimation voice actors, but it sucks that he is dead. He was probably a great guy with great friends and family. RIP.

He also voiced Senbei Norimaki in the Dr. Slump crossover episodes. What a sad coincidence that Senbei's original seiyuu, Kenji Utsumi, is also dead.

I remember how in the Budokai 3 bonus DVD, Brice talked about being a longtime comic and cartoon fan. And him going a dairy-themed Ginyu joke during the outtakes was also great.

Rest in peace, man.

I have a nostalgic soft spot for the Dragon Ball 10th anniversary movie. Ditto the Buu saga.

RIP Brice Armstrong, I thought he was great. Even though I didn't like most of the changes the 2005-2007 redub did, I liked his Ginyu more than Dale Kelly's, and he was my favorite announcer.

utsumi also voiced old slug as well if i recall correctly, though i think Armstrong voiced him in the entire movie ? like you said, an unfortunate coincidence.

For any GT fans here, he was also Sugoro, the guy who ran that Sugoroku Space game, as well as Lord Yao from A Hero's Legacy.

Outside of his DragonBall roles, Armstrong also played a ridiculous number of characters (mostly one-off demons) in Yu Yu Hakusho. Seriously, he was everywhere in that show. I guess the casting directors for that dub were really fond of his voice.

First Christopher Tolkien, now Brice Armstrong...all my fandoms have someone dying these days.

Regardless, R.I.P. and my condolences to his friends and family members.

What a shame -- his Ginyu never clicked with me, but he was the perfect storybook narrator for Dragon Ball. My condolences to his friends and family.

I momentarily suspended a dub/sub Dragon Ball rewatch a couple months ago, but this might make it a little harder to dive back in.

He's my second most favorite dub announcer voice as far as those go after Doc Morgan, and as for Captain Ginyu his was ok but I like R. Bruce Elliot's take in Kai (and Super) just a little more.
DB collection related goals as of now:

1.) Find decent priced copy of Dragon Box Z Vol. 4 (Done)

2.) Collect rest of manga

3.) Get rest of Daizenshuu (2-7)

I always loved the drill sergeant voice that Brice Armstrong gave Ginyu.

Much respect to the guy but, I am not sad. He was 84 and lived a full life. I am happy for him and the work he's done. I don't think we should be mourning per say because this isn't like someone being ripped of life. Much love to the guy happy to enjoy all of his work

84 years is a respectable lifespan I agree and we should be grateful to be able to enjoy his work.

He apparently once met James Earl Jones, who told him "I wish I had your vocal control."
