So in an update to this mess, not only FUNimation dropped the show, but also Amazon Prime and Tokyo MX channel as well. AnimeLab is also saying upcoming episodes are going to be delayed due to "adjusting its source material" as they put it.

Guess this was too problematic beyond just FUNimation if a Japanese TV channel is taking it off the air.

Oh, and MAL is getting spammed pushing this anime to 2nd top anime of all time.

Wow, things are getting interesting. It makes me wonder if Funi was asked to pull it by the powers that be in Japan who perhaps saw the writing on the wall?

To be honest, uncensored version is all that matters, so at least i hope AT-X won't pull it off :) I'm really worried about physical release through, will there even be one? I imagine if it will be, they will have to sell it as 18+ hentai. Passione is gonna make another adaptation of Higurashi, and i really hope they gonna get lots of money from this mess.

I can no longer purchase Funimation releases without a lot of research and there's always something wrong. Here's some of the things in the past that have all added up.
  • Visual Edits to Japanese text in Shin Godzilla replaced to soft subs over a black background
  • Dub transcribed subtitles on Outlaw Star
  • Mistranslations in SSSS.Gridman of characters, races and other show specific terms that change the canon
  • Dangan Ronpa episodes being out of order on their blu-ray
  • Random episodes having mono audio for Japanese track of Escaflowne and Code Geass
  • Locking the Japanese audio for original Speed Racer behind a $300 release
  • Subtitles flowing off screen in Prison School
  • Various mistranslations in How Heavy are the Dumbbells You lift?
  • The insane Dragon Ball releases
With this many mistakes why should I trust them? I've heard murmers of them ruining other shows I haven't watched like a recent recall of their Re:Zero blu-ray. At least that got a recall unlike Broly!

As I said, “incompetent company does something incompetent.” Though in this case, they shouldn’t have licensed this anime at all.

But...why does anybody care about MAL rankings? I don't understand. So what if people like a show somebody else doesn't like?

One thing I just remembered, in terms of FUNimation's releases always being shitty: didn't they also DNR their Cowboy Bebop Blu-rays (which were already remastered) and add fake grain back into them, just like the new DBZ BDs they released?

They're such an incompetent company when it comes to releasing things.

Because they aren’t ranking it in good faith. They just want it on the top to “own the libs” and fight against PC culture. Most of these people didn’t care about the show until Funimation pulled it (for better or worse).

Okay, but it's a stupid website only a niche pays attention to anyway.

I'm not down with cancel culture so I stay subscribed to Funimation. They have decent selection of shows there.

  • Dub transcribed subtitles on Outlaw Star
Outlaw Star is a license rescue. Some of those aren't changed from their old company's releases, such as Girls Bravo and Kanon having the same fonts of some things that Geneon and ADV had. I own the Bandai release of Outlaw Star, which cost me $45 each for all 3 and their subs also had "aniki" as "Gene" if that's what you're talking about. Were you expecting them to change it? With the rescues, kinda don't as it's cheaper.

It's not just aniki and gene, it's literally word for word the dub. So for re-releases it should be just as bad? We need the mistranslations in the next End of Evangelion release that muddies the canon? Also even if I forgive that what about the other eight things I talked about? The company clearly doesn't know how to release a blu-ray.

If the subs are the same as on the old Bandai DVDs, they'd actually be an accurate translation. I recall the dub at times was overly literal with its script. An instance in an early episode had Hilda asking Jim Hawkins if he "likes" Gene, which came off as unintentionally comical and was not meant to imply he's gay for him. Also, translating aniki (big brother) would come off as confusing to an English-speaking audience as it has different connotations in Japan.

I'll admit I never heard of this anime until now, hearing that a piece of media is vanishing or potentially vanishing from the web does admittedly get me to rush to see it sometimes. However i'm not getting that urge here, i'm sure the dub will live on at the many Hentai anime unofficial streaming sites.

My question is Funimation going to go for just a physical release (heh) to get it out of the way and over with, let go of the license so a more appropriate company can snatch it, or just sit on it?

So apparently Funimation’s comments are taking a pummeling at this time due to the butthurt this whole controversy caused. I was watching the FighterZ season 3 trailer and almost all the comments were fans pissy that their porn show was cancelled.

I hate that all the criticism just got the perfect deflection. Now when I say I hate funimation I need to clarify it's because of bad translators, bad editors, bad sound quality and horrendous visual quality so people don't think I'm some crazed ecchi monster, haha.

Or not a Vic Stan. In a lighter note, I did watch some of this show and it has a Dragon Ball reference. A male member of the demon race (I think) looked very similar to Piccolo abd was even referred to as a “Piccolo knockoff” by one of our er “heroes”.
