Son Goku, definitely.

The more time passes, the more I grow fond of him. I would say he’s my definitive favorite character of the serie.
It’s strange, isn’t it? When I was a kid Goku was my favorite for sure, but growing up I tended to prefer the “badass” characters like Vegeta, Future Gohan and Bardock (yes, the TV specials are just THAT good).
I still like those characters a lot, of course, but Goku is above them.
Another character I have grown very fond of is Kame Senn’in. I love his teachings and I still find his antics quite funny.

The reason why I like Goku’s character so much is his mentality of always striving to improve, not to be the best or to prove his superiority over others but just for the sake of surpassing himself. That’s where his purity comes from: he never shows any kind of jealousy towards others, and is instead excited whenever he discovers new realms of power to reach. And he never doubts his ability to reach those realms, as he knows he can get everything through hard work and determination. He also knows perfection doesn’t exist, which is why he keeps striving to one-up himself.
It’s a very positive attitude towards life which resonates with me. The fact he was born as a low-class warrior and thus not “talented” is another aspect I like a lot. His power comes from his work ethic, commitment and his strong mentality. That’s what makes him special compared to other characters.
I can say this character has for sure positively affected my life. That’s why I love him and Dragon Ball.

Muten Roshi's development from unassuming letcher, to mystical mentor, to the guiding hand for the next generation really nets him my #1 spot. Roshi vs Tenshinhan reads as the beating heart of Dragon Ball to me, and his journey was so neatly wrapped up in the Piccolo arc.
He was one of the few characters who really felt complete (thanks for undoing that one by the way, Super).

Bee is the only character that never once annoyed me in any way, and also the one who's death (which wasn't even a death, but a very serious injury) made me cry the most, so I guess he's my favorite character.
