Previously I had only the first one pre-ordered, but I later decided to order the other two partly because I want FUNimation to actually FINISH this release and partly because I don't own any physical run of this show.SSJGAffleck wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 4:40 pmI ordered all three of them because I hate myself a little

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
Is there any reason the Dragon Box masters haven't been standardized at this point or is it just a matter of FUNimation's laziness or thinking their own amateur hour widescreen represents "how the series was meant to be seen"? A rerelease of the Dragon Boxes or even those masters in their silly "Season" forms would forgive the revolving door of schizophrenic releases they've been shitting out over these past 15 or so years.
The fact that they released the 30th Anniversary Set without those masters is kind of suspicious, honestly.

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
I have noo idea. I want to assume it's licensing, but France is using dragon box masters for their bluray and Funi used a dragon box master for 1 episode on the singles and i think a handfull of episodes on their streaming service.
I'd honestly guess that it's because it's not HD

Spain*. I don't think France released their Blu-rays for DB/Z/GT yet. If we're lucky we'll get a new HD or 4K master from film. In any case, France has aired the DNR'd Toei HD master of the classic films (uncensored?).eledoremassis02 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 7:58 pm France is using dragon box masters for their bluray

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
Wasn't there some problem with episode 1 where it was completely zoomed in ? If so, does anyone think they'll fix it for this release ?
Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
Doubt it. I'm betting that the only change to these discs is the menus.Matches Malone wrote: ↑Tue Sep 01, 2020 11:25 am Wasn't there some problem with episode 1 where it was completely zoomed in ? If so, does anyone think they'll fix it for this release ?

For what it’s worth Kanzenshuu did a podcast with a former brand manager from Funimation and even though fans tend to favor 4:3 the 16:9 remastering just sell better https://youtu.be/YyqjJ-oeFO0 (relevant info around 21:19) the Orange Bricks are their best sellers probably because they’re so cheap and the average Joe Schmoe probably doesn’t care about the color saturation or cropping they just want it to fill their widescreen.Thanos wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 7:38 pm Is there any reason the Dragon Box masters haven't been standardized at this point or is it just a matter of FUNimation's laziness or thinking their own amateur hour widescreen represents "how the series was meant to be seen"? Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
That's a much more reasonable price. Because their original asking price of about 60 bucks was outrageous for a show that's been re-released so many times. If they were serious about sticking to that price, it would cost about as much as the original collector's edition of the 30th Set to complete the show.
Though I still think the actual steelbook packaging is totally unnecessary. They could've easily just made packaging similar to their current Super blu rays to put them in, and sell for like 30 dollars, but I guess they saw it as a new way to tack on an extra premium.
It's like that collector's blu ray set of Speed Racer that came out a few years ago that was 300 dollars, but as of now it's the only way to obtain the original Mach Go Go Go. If you got the standard retail release you only got the American Speed Racer.

I really feel like the only place I'll see these on sale for around 60 is FYE lol I ended up pre-ordering season one out of curiosity. If I can get it down to free thru Swagbucks it's a plus. If it's the same as the 30th set (which I am pretty much expecting) I'll probably give it away to a friend.ArmenianPepsi wrote: ↑Sun Sep 06, 2020 12:39 amThat's a much more reasonable price. So much for the 30th anniversary version being a "once in a lifetime opportunity" buy lol. Oh Funi, after all these years you still haven't change.
