Appreciating the Little Things
When it comes to Dragon Ball discussion, a lot of focus is placed on the big iconic moments that everyone loves. As a result, the little things we likely all appreciate tend to go ignored. Let's change that by discussing the little things.
I really like the recap music used for the first two seasons of Funimation's Dragon Ball Z redub. While it's ultimately beaten by the Cha-La Head-Cha-La instrumental, there's something really catchy about it that always gets stuck in my head.

I liked how creative the title cards were with the Ocean dub, it's a bummer that they went back to plain white text after they started doing everything in house.

Having just finished watching Dead Zone, I love the mash up of Mystical Adventure instrumental and Piccolo’s theme when Son Goku and Piccolo team up against Garlic Jr

There are some bits of dialogue I quite like, particularly the one I chose for my signature, as I find that one quite inspiring.

Sabat's over the top delivery of "curse you boy!" makes me smile.

I like the small character moments and interactions. I also enjoyed the still images placed in the middle of Kai's episodes.

Re: Appreciating the Little Things
I live for the little things. Forget beam struggles and transformations -- gimme stuff like Muten Roshi hiding in a drawer after Goku kicks Lunch in the face (yeah that's a thing that actually happened).
- A confused Goku poking at an empty mech, knocking it over, and thinking "He just... died! What a weakling!"
- Jackie Chun giving a dumb little concert during the Tenka'ichi Budokai, and little Goku joins in.
- One of General Blue's soldiers saying "None of us survived, sir" while dead, pinned to a wall by a pirate trap's spear.
- Kaio imitating phone noises when he first graces us with his puns.
These are just a few examples, but there are countless more gags and little character interactions like this that keep me coming back to Dragon Ball.

I like that Grandpa Gohan got to meet Chichi on the eve of her and Goku's wedding.
Yes, I know that's anime-only, and I know that filler arc wasn't remotely the franchise's best, but I love that little moment.

The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

Can't say I agree. IMO the Ocean title cards look incredibly tacky, like they were made with Microsoft Word art.Planetnamek wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 7:29 pm I liked how creative the title cards were with the Ocean dub, it's a bummer that they went back to plain white text after they started doing everything in house.

I love the home releases and even when I'm not watching the show I cherish the covers and see them as works of art.
Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

Still better then boring white text on a background of Dragon Balls.Ringworm128 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 01, 2020 5:28 amCan't say I agree. One of my favorite fillers is Goku befriending a Fox that wanted to change his ways and become a teacher.
The filler in one episode showed one of DB's main themes which is redemption. Everyone deserves a second chance. Its simple but I love it.
Unlike other filler characters with the exception of Pikkon, I would love to see him come back.

It matches the Japanese title cards much closer though.Planetnamek wrote: ↑Tue Sep 01, 2020 7:23 pmStill better then boring white text on a background of Dragon Balls.Ringworm128 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 01, 2020 5:28 amCan't say I agree. 100% agree with this. You know something cool is gonna happen when that theme starts. My highlight of that theme has to be Dead Zone
