"The tv specials kinda show that Toei is sometimes better at writing drama than Toriyama. Nobody in Bardock's and Trunks' stories is safe from violence. No Dragon Balls or Namek Dragon Balls. Dead is permanent. Trunks is quite of a tragic hero who really stands out in the Android saga not only for his entry but also backstory."
Trunks has experienced stuff that could drive a normal person nuts. Thankfully he was able to find friends and achieve victory and closure for himself. But behind most heroes are tragedy, and a hero who hasn't experienced it yet is still a rookie.

Damn, it’s almost like Toriyama had already established these characters were doomed to die for good...DragonBallFoodie wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 5:49 pmNobody in Bardock's and Trunks' stories is safe from violence. No Dragon Balls or Namek Dragon Balls. Dead is permanent.

Toei is definitely better at drama than Toriyama. The Bardock and Trunks specials are two of the darkest pieces of Dragon Ball media, and they’re also pretty damn good, especially compared to Minus and Trunks The Story.

Honestly, they made quite the accurate observation. Wasn’t expecting that but kudos to them.
More so on Trunks than on Bardock though as the latter is essentially a prequel. Those two specials are definitely not the kind that even Toriyama himself would expect Toriyama to write.
