It’s relevant because it means that Toriyama wasn’t the one who came up with it, which ties into the idea that his version of Dragon Ball has some inherent cynicism in it.

In the anime wasn't the idea of a tourney mostly from Zen-oh finding out about the U6/U7 fights and deciding to throw a much bigger one for funs, then put everything at stake?there’s nothing in it to suggest that the Zen-Ohs put together the tournament as a test. It was purely for their own amusement.
