What if Immortal Phoenix never died?

Post by BernardoCairo » Wed Sep 28, 2022 12:22 am

Have you ever stopped to think how different the manga would be if Immortal Phoenix hadn't died of food poisoning (lol)?
Imagine if Goku was immortal from the get go... What kind of immortality would even that be? Perhaps Goku would not age... Or maybe he would be 100% immortal (like Zamasu in DBS). That would be insane. Piccolo and Vegeta would be in trouble.

I think it's more like Roshi's immortality, as in he can't die of old age but is still mortal (otherwise Roshi would be immortal like Zamasu, as he wouldn't have any reason not to get Phoenix's immortality on top of the life elixir if they had different effects and he had easy access to the Phoenix).

The most important implication however would be that Goku wouldn't have Kinto'un, so it would take him longer to get back to Roshi's after the first arc (on top of losing a convenience), it would also mean that Gyumao would have been an enemy for longer, given he is implied to be far stronger than Goku at that point maybe Gyumao would have killed Goku, Bulma and Oolong and that would have been the end of the series, or perhaps he would have recognized the Nyoibo during the fight, in that case the arc would have remained mostly the same, just that it would take far longer for Goku to travel to Roshi's to search for the Basho-Sen and search for Chi-Chi, maybe this is something that the gang would have done together in light of Goku not having the Kinto'un and thus being able to travel faster than everyone else, but other than the Gyumao section of the story the loss of the Kinto'un wouldn't make a big difference in the narrative beats, just the internal logic of the travels.

Then perhaps Roshi would have given it to Goku during their training, or perhaps after the 21st Budokai, but if he didin't for whatever reason it would take Goku far longer to search for the Dragon Balls during the Red Ribbon Army arc if he went solo like in Canon, so in this case i don't think Goku would have gone alone, maybe Bulma would have joined him from the start and get more involved with the storyline, due to her having multiple vehicles to help Goku.

After the Uranai Baba tournament, Goku goes on his 3 year training in which he is restricted from using Kinto'un, so this wouldn't change at all, the Piccolo Arc would certainly change a lot if Goku wasn't able to immediately chase after Tambourine, i'm thinking that he would have never met Yajirobe had he stuck with Roshi and the others, he would have learned about Piccolo sooner, perhaps thanks to Goku's help Roshi would have been more open towards working as a team with him and Tenshinhan to seal Piccolo with the Mafuba, but if this doesn't happen and Roshi still insists on doing it alone (putting Goku and Tenshinhan to sleep) maybe after seeing Roshi die Goku would have gone to Karin's much like in Canon and get the Divine Water, i'm thinking that this would be the point where Karin might give Goku his own Kinto'un just like in Canon, so from this point it would be very similar to how the series went.

In the long run, if Goku never gets Kinto'un before the Piccolo Arc, perhaps he would have learned to drive vehicles much like Bulma at some point, seeing how they were convenient for traveling long distances, especially flying vehicles, perhaps we would have gotten many of the manga cover illustrations as canon material lol.

Later, if Goku can't die of old age, then he will inevitably outlive everyone except for Roshi, but given we never got a story with an aged Goku, this element wouldn't affect any of the known story arcs of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball GT.

Also, given Roshi wanted to thank both Goku and Bulma with the Phoenix, this would make Bulma immortal as well, so she would never have to worry about looking old or use the Dragon Balls to make her younger.
