Toonami Digital Arsenal: Original Dragonball Commercials

Post by SSj_Rambo » Fri Jun 13, 2008 4:13 pm

I know this site has been around for a while but no one seems to have brought it up on this forum so I thought I'd put up a link for those who haven't heard about it and let everyone post their thoughts.

Toonami Digital Arsenal is an awesome fansite that offers us videos of original Toonami commercials for our favorite cartoons, including over 100 Dragonball/Z/GT commercials! The Quality is usually not too good but it's still fun to watch them, and bring back those good 'ol memories. The videos play with Quicktime but you can use VLC media player too. There are even some nice extra's throughout the DB/DBZ/GT sections such as Japanese openings and Endings, video game commercials, Dr. Slump promo, and more.

Here are my favorite commercials:

DBZ-Short Season 6 Promo
DBZ-The Saga that Changed it All
DBZ-Double DB/DBZ
DBZ-Longest Running Toonami Show
DBZ-Yet Another Season 4
DBZ-Uncut Promo

I'd love to hear your thoughts and see your favorites!

The best commercials were always the ones for the first three movies. Especially with the movie guy narrating and the random opening of shouting from the Japanese version of The World's Strongest Man.

I love how Toonami used to call DBZ "the best action cartoon of all time", and now they're calling Naruto that.

Man, I never realized how many intros Dragonball Z had. I probably stopped watching sometime around the Buu saga. And oh man! The Burger King toys! *cringe* I remember scrambling to turn off the TV whenever that commercial came on. :P

Thanks for the link. This is really interesting.

For Toonami, Naruto is the new DBZ.

Naruto may be the best succession of flash-backs of all time, but certainly not action. The lack of action in most Naruto episodes is almost astounding. And this is coming from someone who sat through the Freeza saga a few times.

I do like Naruto, though, even if I've fallen behind since the name change.

And then when Gintama or HunterXHunter gets shown on there they'll drop Naruto and proclaim that one the best. Big deal. No point in complaining about it over and over.

Cool!

I live in England, and they didn't show that many adverts over here, it'll be fun to look through them. We did however get a kind of amv advert, which was scenes from the Buu saga from oh, Super Buu and Gotenks, to Dabura and Kid Buu. I can't remember it so well now, but back in high school I found it amazing! It was done to the Foo Fighters track, ''All my life'' and put together really well, perhaps i'll find it amongst the links. :)

Did any of you guys see it too? It may actually have been on CNX though.

FUNi should work something out with Cartoon Network to get some of these as bonus material in the releases.

Actually anything at all would be great. Trailers for other releases do not count as extras.

^^ Agreed. I watched seasons 3 and 4 on Toonami (1 & 2 on another channel, the rest on DVD), and those old intros really bring back memories for me.

Just without it being on 5 days a week. If Naruto had DBZ's level of exposure, it would be even bigger in the US.

If Bandai can get old Adult Swim/Toonami promos for its DVDs, then Funi should be able to get these. I love those old promos.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I'm so pissed that they replaced DB and DBZ with Naruto and other things.

They said that if we keep watching, they'll keep showing.

We should sue for false advertising.

My favorite is the Season 4 intro. Just so much nostalgia.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

When I was introduced to the show via Funi's dub, I used to watch it on an Australian program called "Cheez tv", I never once saw a commercial promoting the show here.

I love this website... check out Toonami "Broken Promises - Dreams", one of their best mini-amv type things. It's under middle toonami, and you search "dreams". Mostly Outlaw Star and Gundam, but I recall some DBZ in there.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
