DBZ Double Feature Movies 12 and 13 Discussion

Post by ShinRogafuken » Mon Mar 02, 2009 12:18 am

Who here thinks FUNimation got cheap recycling the Wrath of the Dragon boxart for the Double Feature?

Also, what are your guys' opinions on the two movies themselves?

I'm not disappointed. It's amazing artwork. On top of that it's relevant so it's got two things going for it.

Gah! I gotta get caught up on these releases.

It's just a placeholder, most likely. We'll probably get the real one in a few weeks.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Wow, I've never seen that famous image so far zoomed out; it usually gets cut off before you see the far left side of Shenlong... and sometimes you don't even get to see his whole head (such as in all previous movie covers and the original poster art). I think it is a very nice cover, but they should have included some movie 12 art in the faded background, IMO.

In other cool news regarding DBZ Movie 13, I found some images of the old July of 1995 Toei Anime Fair film program/guide for "Dragon Fist Explosion!! If Goku Won't Do It, Who Will?" (with half of it being dedicated to Slam Dunk and Ninku... per the norm).

A shame how the !Dragon Fist explosion! wasn't put to greater use. There wasn't enough substance or emotion behind it to make the move an extremely kickass attack.

I actually like the reuse of the art. Movie 13's art is probably my favorite Movie Art (Japanese or Funimation). I think it looks good and suits well for the final Double Feature Cover Art.

Cheap? Perhaps, but I'd much rather have official Toei art that looks amazing as opposed to some half-assed vectored Dragonball Z image coughed up from whomever was in-charge of the covers:

Yuck.

Yeah, I like the artwork, but I don't like the idea of reusing it. I don't know if it's because I own Wrath of the Dragon ultimate uncut, but I'm tired of seeing that artwork. And I agree with Rambo, they need some of movie 12 stuff in the BG.

The 'Dragon Fist-throwin' SSj3 Goku" image is always pretty sweet, but I'd rather see Gogeta on the cover, I think.

Hasn't every other Double Feature contained a main center character and two faded characters in the background?

I would actually keep the Goku Dragon Fist, and have Gogeta and either Janemba/Tapion in the background.

I hope they do keep the Movie 13 cover Son on the image, because the Movies 7 and 9 box is not only a bad image used, but it's VEGETA!! A Character who has almost no direct relevance to the movies contained therein.
That box and the Season 7 box still infuriate me because those characters don't belong there. It should have been Great Saiyaman for season 7 and Gohan from Movie 9, Bojack, or Super-Cyborg 13 on the front and center part of the cover.

Still... back to the actual topic... I want these two movies most of all, so I'll be happy when they finally hit... probabily do what I always do with FUNimation DVDs and wait until Right Stuff has a big FUNi sale.

I'll just wait until FUNi puts all the movies into one big orange brick, which I hope will happen soon.
Gohan: At least he doesn't have his sword out anymore.
Kuririn: Yeah, and your dad put his finger away too.

AnimeonDVD has a new DVD coverart for these movies but instead of double feature it says triple feature:

http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showthread.php?t=90947

What do you think another mistake by Funi or is there something more to it? I know that it's extremely wishful thinking and there's like a 1% chance that it's right but maybe we'll get the new special afterall. :D
I can only dream.

More likely because it's just still a placeholder, they slapped the new image and the movies' titles on there from the Broly Triple Feature, but forgot to change the 'Triple' to 'Double.'

Yeah, that does make sense but we've already had a coverart for this release that says "Double Feature" on it. Maybe they just used the Broli release's angle shot as part of the placeholder and were too lazy to change it. Oh well, I should probably come to expect things like this by now.

I suspect that they will drop Shenron from the cover and just stick with SSJ3 Goku. The reason is that (unless it's just the angle, which I doubt) Janemba and Hildegarn aren't in the background. Every other feature has some dim shot in the background except this one. I think Goku on his own would look better in the context of the other 6 double features.

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing, just take the dragon out of the big picture in the front, and keep just SSJ3 Goku on the front cover.

I'm still hoping for Gogeta though just so Season 9 has Vegito and this has Gogeta. Because when you think about it:
Season 4 - Trunks -------1st Double Feature - Trunks
Season 6 - Goku ---------3rd Double Feature - Goku
Season 8 - Vegeta--------5th Double Feature - Vegeta
Coincidences, I think not.

really uncut?

In Fusion Reborn, are the swastikas, 'third reich' references, and the Hitler character intact or are they still going to be edited out?

FUNimation don't do edited DVD's anymore; they're all uncut.

Sure! In as much as they weren't in the film to begin with :P

There were no swastikas, there were no references to the Third Reich/Großdeutsches Reich/Deutsches Reich/National Socialist German Workers Party and the "Hitler" character (while obviously a caricature of Hitler) wasn't called by that name nor did he make any references to him. He mainly shouted "Fire!" over and over again.
