Time Gap

Does anyone know how much time has passed between the defeat of Pure Boo and the end of Dragon Ball Z? And the time between Z and the start of GT?

There are ten years between Boo's defeat and the end of Z.

Depending on which version you subscribe to, either five (original) or ten (Funimation) years passed between Z and GT.

So this means that in the first episode of GT, Pan is going on dates and she's only 9-10 years old.......

Pan's supposedly 10.And her going on dates at that age isn't that bad (happens in real life all the time, believe it or not). Certainly not worse than Bra getting hit on by adults when she is either 9 or 11, depending on which birth year source you go by.

Yeah, the other day me and a friend were watching and we questioned why Pan was going on dates at such a young age. And the Bra thing is crazy too! Is this what goes on in Japan, or did Toei just forgot how old they were suppossed to be? (x

It's not like it's totally insane for girls to already be boy crazy by that age. What's weird is by the looks of things, the guy she was dating looked to be at least a few years older than her....

...at 10 years old, Pan would be in 4th or 5th grade. When I was in 4th grade, most of the kids were definitely still in the "girls/boys are icky" phase. 5th grade somewhat less (this was when they started sex ed, though the majority of the kids thought it was gross at the time, and one kid even asked "is that how you have sex?" when one diagram came up... I'm guessing the teachers started early to make sure the kids knew to use condoms and such before they actually started), but still, nobody was going on dates yet as far as I'm aware. I never saw/heard of anything like that going on until a couple years later at middle school.

So maybe not "totally insane"... but still pretty unlikely.

I think in Japan kids learns about sex education earlier.

Besides, look at anime series like Shin-chan. The protagonist is a 5 years old Kame-sennin!

Or you can even think of it in Dragon Ball world... Oolong was 9 when he was introduced and was all over Bulma, with some very XXX thoughts.

That's definitely different from my experience. "Girls/boys are icky" was over by 2nd grade, maybe 3rd grade at the latest. By 3rd grade the idea was already that only unattractive girls/boys were icky

Yeah, I think it was fourth grade or so when the kids at my school started (pretending) they were dating.

When I was 10, I saw two of my male friends humping one of my female friends on a bench.

I'm going to go with "It's a Japanese thing".

The fat, borderline mentally handycapped white boy gangster-wannabe ten-year-old in our household claims to be dating tons of girls, but he's the sort of person who would say the most ridiculous crap if he thought it'd make him look good. (He's been claiming as much for quite a few years. Note, said kid never leaves the house unless he has to.)

I didn't get sex ed until sixth grade, but apparently everyone else knew all about it before then, since in fifth grade I mentioned a dream I had involving Arnold (from Hey Arnold) and a one year old getting pregnant, and everyone seemed to be grossed out (and I had no idea why).
But, yeah, I heard plenty of people in fourth grade talking about their romantic interests. Whether or not anything became of these at the time, I have no idea.

Keep in mind, though, that Pan did travel the world when she was four. Apparently unsupervised.

I subscribe to the theory 10 years passed. It makes more sense. Girls dating at 10 is odd. Where I'm from, 15/16 is more normal. Then again, kids these days are going WAY downhill, what with 12 year old sluts and what not. But this WAS set in the 80s

We have turned this thread into a way to talk about how perverted out childhoods were. Great.

Different cultures are different. In my primary school, kids were dating around 9 or 10 years old. Obviously, it wasn't serious, but it still happened.

And Toriyama's never consistent with ages. For goodness sake, Goku still looks like a little kid when he's 15. Same with Kuririn. 12-year-old Chi-Chi has a bust and is wearing an armoured bikini. Oolong's 9 at his first appearance, yet he's as horny as a teenager, kidnaps little girls, hits on Bulma and later drugs her so that he can "feel her up".

Also, Japan. Manga. 1980s. Different cultural standards. I thought people knew this by now and had stopped being surprised by Pan's dating age or even the infamous 9/11-year-old Bra and her hooker outfit.

Officially, in the original, GT took place five years after Z. The original presides over FUNimation's English dub, which likes to pull things out of their ass. Just because you don't like the fact that GT was 5 years after Z doesn't mean that you should just ignore and believe in what an irrelevant English dub says.

Also, the actual Funi dub apparently doesn't say anything about the length of time since Z. "10 years later" was only used in some of Funi's marketing material leading up to their release of the series.

Well, either way, the original still presides over what FUNi's marketing material says.

We were innocent kids, until we found porn magazine and having an awesome friend with his dad's sexroom, who was often guest in warious luxury brothels, having plackets on walls like: To our awesome big-c**k honey! and various and whole cup board full of various alcohols....... Also playboy tower next to the closet. Really cool place for kids to grown up.
That was 1st grade...... in 2nd, we found porn tapes in the same flat hidden behind the regular flicks with Sly Stallone and such.

Well, this friend is the most twisted person from all of us nowadays.

I remember when I was 9 or 10 and I was round my friend's house. We went on his computer in the basement (he had two, but his mum or something was using the one that was in the kitchen), and he showed me these porn videos. We thought it was pretty cool, even if we didn't know what "cum" was supposed to mean.

...I hope this doesn't turn into a thread for people to share their strange sex-related childhood experiences.
