What people must remember is at the very end of DBGT, Goku is remembered enough that the entire world knows his name, and he even has a statue built in honor of him (adult form, thank God). I guess it's distant time gaps when someone is remembered best as a hero; Son Goku was remembered for defeating King Piccolo, winning the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, saving Earth from the Saiyans, and eventually saving the entire galaxy from the Shadow Dragons. Baba's prophecy did come to light, despite the GT series being refered to as "filler" by the manga purists, it all came to a very happy and good conclusion for the Dragonball Trilogy as GT's ending came along.
