I think he probably used to given the reveals about Whis being his martial arts teacher, and the fact that yeah it doesn't seem you have to be born into being a God of Destruction.
But probably not for a long while because he's not had anyone to challenge him at all, though with Goku and Vegeta getting closer to him,
maybe he'll decide to train some more again, some day. If he actually finds someone stronger than him and he has the want to do it (generally he doesn't, but he could.) he could again. But yeah, I don't think he does anymore but he probably used to.
I wonder what the God of Destruction tryouts are like...

Yes, its implied he is still being trained by Whis. But due to his long lifespan we never see it .
Berus is millions of years old , to him 40 years is like a day. For all we know he might be taking a day off or its not his training time yet .

I think he trained to the point that Whis thought he was good enough to suit the role of God of Destruction. Perhaps if Goku get's close he'll make Whis start training him again?

He did at a time. But not anymore since he can sleep all the time and be more powerful than any of his opponents.

Of course not. He probably used to, but now he's infinitely strong (with Whis being infinitely stronger than that) because the writers want him to be, for no good reason. Beerus is currently the one major character I actually want Goku to beat.

He probably got cocky at some point and concluded that he wouldn't need to anymore since most people are weaker than him.
