Actually, I heard they didn't do female Super Saiyajin forms because they couldn't figure out how to design their hair in SSJ without it looking absolutely ridiculous...
I'm of the opinion that Saiyan women would be able to transform into the SSJ state but none existed that where strong enough until Pan showed up and of course DBGT is rubbish for the most part so that's why Pan didn't go SSJ. I know we all want a "in-universe" explanation as to why Pan didn't go SSJ but the only one I can think of is the genetics route.

I believe in the "genetics" arguement for the most part except for when it comes to Trunks and Goten. Goten could have transformed thanks to his father Goku being a SSJ at the time of conception but Trunks cannot. Perhaps Vegeta had the potential to become a SSJ when he and Bulma had their "night together" but Vegeta simply wasen't a SSJ until he arrived to face Android 19 after Trunks had been born.

Iv'e come to the conclusion that to become a Super Saiyajin that a Saiyan (I spell it both ways  ) needs to exceed their potential ( or simply have a pl higher than a million), go through a state of extreme anger and have a clear objective mentally which is what I believe Toryiama meant by pure of heart. Goku became engraged and only wanted vengence on Freeza wheras Vegeta became fed up with himself and no longer cared about his current situation on that doomed planet... he only cared about becoming stronger than Kakarot.

One last thing... I have a theory that the legendary Super Saiyan before Goku was but the first to "evolve" to a new state of being. Centuries later the Saiyan race was beginning to catch up to the "legendary Super Saiyan" since the entire race was becoming stronger with each new generation. That would explain Freeza's growing fear of them. Had the Saiyan race continued to live a generation or more the elite and even other warriors could have become SSJ's.

That's what I've always thought. The Saiyans were simply evolving and becoming much more powerful than ever before. Then throw their hybrid offsprings into the evolutionary mix, and you've got a reasonable explanation for Goten and Trunks' transformations coming so naturally with little to no conditioning.

Question one: I wish I had drawn that.
Question two: No idea, looks like a new enemy.

The artist of that particular image is the infamous (in some circles) "Pandora's Box".

You don't want to know why he's infamous.

Ah, I love that picture. That's how it should look if they wanted to do it.

The position of the new enemy, reminds me of Kid Buu for some reason.

I don't think there's a set requirement outside of reaching the normal limitations of anger and being of a pure heart (not necessarily 'pure-hearted', as Vegeta delves into). As for strength, Trunks must've been pretty weak for a one-handed Gohan to have matched him in the canon manga without breaking a sweat. So no, I don't think even from a power level standpoint there's a set requirement outside of the aforementioned emotional issue.
I'm going to put the debates to a rest- Broli is not the Legendary Super Saiyan. Goku is not the Legendary Super Saiyan. I'm the Legendary Super Saiyan. And while I'm at it, I'm Batman too.

Sure let the girls go SSJ, I mean Bardock had a tough girl in his group.

I don't really like the way Pan looks in this image though although she still looks tough as a SSJ.

I think the female SSJ should slightly different to the way the men look though.

Aah! Finally someone who recognizes his age is different from what the official FUNi snippets say! @_@ Though I think you're off by a year or so... lemme recalcuate, I had this worked out a long time ago. (You see my fangirlness right there? D: )

Let's sheeee... Goku was 11 when Dragonball first started, 12 during the 21st Budokai, and about 15/16 by the 22nd Budokai and the time he defeated Piccolo Daimao. Then he spent about three years in training and was about 19 (about!) at the 23rd Budokai. He was 24 at the start of DBZ, and he still was when he fought Vejita ('cos one's body clock apparently stops when one dies in Dragonball, so the year he was dead doesn't count), meaning he was about 25 when he faced Freeza (didn't it take Gohan and Co. about six months to get to Nameck?) and 26 when he came back to Earth afterwards. Then there were the three years of training, so he was about 29 or 30 (I think? I thought I had it worked out to where he was 30, anyway) during the Androids and Cell arc. Then he was dead for seven more years, so he was still about 30 come Buu... and probably not quite 40 at the end of DBZ. Which probably means he was about 44, likely 45, in GT, though I heard also that the gap between Z and GT was ten years and not five, so I'm not sure...

*whew!* There you have it... my calculation of Goku's age throughout the series. I know it's not completely accurate, but it's the best I've been able to figure. God, do I need to get a life... D:
My ages are exact going by years, but they're not perfect if you narrow it down by month. It's easy to get them perfect when you can go by the time-line so...

He was 12 at the start and still 12 8 months later at the Budokai. 15 at the 22nd and 18 at the 23rd. 24 at the start of DBZ. (Past September so we know his birthday's passed already.) Still 24 when he defeats Freeza. That's in 762, he's not back until nearly 2 years later. For argument's sake I make him 26 when he returns (for some reason my brain puts his birthday in August).

The Androids then arrive in 767 while Goku's still 28 (It's only May after all). A year in the RoSaT makes him 29 come the Cell games. Thus still 29 come his fight with Buu. Month's make things tricky like that.

Incest porn.

On this topic...since (normal) Vegeta trained harder than Mirai Vegeta (he didn't ask Dr. Briefs for the gravity chamber till after they heard about the Jinzonigen), I wonder--IF we accept the theory that father's power has SOMETHING to do with it--if that means Trunks started off with a stronger base power than Mirai Trunks did at the same age, before training.

How do we know that Vegeta's first transformation wasn't until he fought jinzoningen 19?

Yeah. He was at least as strong as Goku at SSj, which would seem to mean he'd been training with the stage for a while, perhaps almost as long. It'd seem to me that he more than likely reached SSj sometime early in the 3-year training.

Because we're shown that it wasn't. :)

In episode 129, the episode in question, Vegeta is shown out in space on a crater (Lord knows how he managed to breath out ther... ah, filler...), training till he collapses to the ground in a bloody pulp. Blah, blah, blah, dub messed it up, BOOM. SSJ.
