Ki sense being overloaded?

Post by Polyphase Avatron » Tue Jun 25, 2019 7:56 pm

If the ki sense works like a normal sense (sight, hearing, etc.) there should be a point where the stimulus is so intense that it becomes harmful (blindingly bright lights, deafeningly loud sounds). Would it be possible for someone to have ki so high that merely sensing it (even from an extreme distance) would cause someone pain and perhaps permanent injury?

And if so, how powerful would a character need to be to do that, considering that we've never seen this happen before?
Cool stuff that I upload here because Youtube will copyright claim it: https://vimeo.com/user60967147

I don't think that Ki-sensing is a biological function. As far as we can tell, there's no organ or bodily system designed to detect Ki because most living beings in DB's multiverse do not use Ki. Its even not clear if Zeno can sense Ki since he only uses objects or servants to communicate with and teleport to specific individuals that he desires to meet.
Like with the nature of Ki, the ability to sense it is rooted in some immaterial & spiritual realm that is able to transfer to the physical plane but its evidently not enough to overwhelm anyone's senses.

If it could be overloaded, characters like Freeza and Cell would have probably done it to the characters already.

Vegeta said, when sensing Kefla, that "there's no end to her ki". So I don't think it could be overloaded. You would probably feel a start and an end, and, comparing it to other ki/yours, you have a feeling of how strong said person is.

If ki in Dragon Ball works anything like ki/chi/qi in real life (at least, real life mythology), then it really depends. Some stories have characters be overwhelmed and crippled by another's raw chi, but other times even the weakest of qigong practitioners can handle sensing an overlord's galaxy well of chi and may simply not be able to sense all of it.
Of course, it's possible—even probable— Toriyama was satirizing real ki beliefs and you can best describe the effects of ki in the series as "whatever's most dramatic".
