Did Toriyama ever say anything about the precise nature of the internal conflict that destroyed Planet Sadala in Universe 7?

Not yet, but some side material characters (namely SDBH's Cumber and the DBLegend's twins, Shallot and Giboulette) seems to come for a time before depature. DBLegends specifically address the matter of ancient Saiyans having a different ki signature than modern Saiyans.
Also, you got Yamoshi, the original SS/SSG, and a conflict that perhaps involved the aforementioned characters. It dwells strongly into the headcanon territory but we can speculate about that conflict causing such devastation that prompt a total exile of the species.

Yeah I know interesting thing to think about isn't it? I have a headcanon that some Saiyans who escaped Sadala's destruction founded a colony on a lush planet devoid of intelligent life and over time they became less ruthless.
