Is there an explanation for the return of Super Saiyan transformations?
Is there an explanation for the return of Super Saiyan transformations? Didn't Whis's training show that they should train in the base form? And how strong must Goku in his base form be? Shouldn't they have followed what the manga did, Goku fighting Beerus in SSG?
Re: Is there an explanation for the return of Super Saiyan transformations?
It wasn’t given an explanation.
For context, Toriyama once said that Goku probably wouldn’t become SS2 and SS3, or even Super Saiyan God, as he had already absorbed its power. So, it can be assumed his idea was originally making Goku progress with his normal form and Super Saiyan, which eventually evolved into Super Saiyan Blue.
Of course, this doesn’t mean they would definitely not use any of these forms, just that they wouldn’t matter for optimal use.
By the time Freeza had his rematch with Goku, everyone was astonished by his power-up and Goku fought him more than evenly with his normal form, which would be extremely unlikely if they fought before Goku fought Beerus.

Yes. The question is, did the power that Goku absorbed go into its base form making it that much stronger or was the SSG transformation absorbed?
Would the moment when he returns to base form and transform be a moment of fury that would stabilize afterwards?

The SSJ forms still have viable usage even if SSJG & SSJB have rendered them obsolete power-wise. Base Goku & Vegeta are now far more powerful than their Z selves could've ever imagined but stacking SSJ/2/3 on top of their vastly improved bases is still a useful strategy, one that certainly can help save stamina as the God forms might require more energy to upkeep.

They seem to be used just to test the strength of an opponent.

Considering what Toriyama said, you can assume the fight with Beerus boosted all Goku forms, especially Super Saiyan, which had powerlevel close to Super Saiyan God’s, as Goku not even notes the difference.ronaldnorth_03 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 10:45 pm Yes.
