Did Dragon Ball ever motivate you to exercise?
For me, it was partial to me wanting to get stronger but primarily cuz of a health scare from the doctors saying I was pre-diabetic and would develop serious problems at age 19 if I didn't get control on my diet and exercised more. Basically... if I didn't change my lifestyle sooner I'd probably be dead at this point.
I (re)started my diet in late 2013 and had since lost about 40 lbs. I slacked on exercise in mid 2015 so I'm still overweight but somewhat recently got back into exercising. I'm now doing high-rep weight lifts, running 20 minutes, 180 push-ups (sometimes 240), 100 sit-ups, and 80 leg lifts a day five times each week.
Now has Dragon Ball motivated you to improve your body?

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

Re: Did Dragon Ball ever motivate you to exercise?
While it hasn't been a primary factor, as someone who exercises a lot there's definitely stuff in DB that I'm like "Yeah, there's truth in that." The kind of runner's high after having gotten going for a while, the restlessness felt when you haven't been able to exercise for a few days due to extenuating factors (one more reason I'm not a fan of snow; most of my exercise is based on being able to either get to the gym or walk/jog/run outdoors. When it snows heavily my entire routine is temporarily destroyed.) the progress made using different machines, having some food on my stomach before I start (not a full meal like they eat in DB, but a couple snacks) helps keep me going through.

Re: Did Dragon Ball ever motivate you to exercise?
The only time Dragon Ball has kind of motivated me to exercise was when I wanted to be Future Trunks for Halloween one year. As soon as I purchased the black tank top, it became readily apparent that I needed to bulk up somehow in order to prevent myself from looking absolutely ridiculous in it. However, it is extremely difficult for me to bulk up or gain weight in general, as I have learned dozens of times in the past, and this time was no different so I eventually gave up. I don't think I dressed up at all that year. Oh well, I didn't have the sword anyway.

I started weight lifting 5 years ago because I wanted to get in shape, not because of Dragon Ball. However, the aesthetic looking Dragon Ball characters sure as hell did give me motivation!
It's pretty cool that most professional bodybuilders are huge Dragon Ball fans.. well, "DBZ".

Re: Did Dragon Ball ever motivate you to exercise?
absolutely. vegeta in particular always was the prime representation of work ethic for me. I always visualize the scene of his training in 300x Gravity.
Throughout my childhood I admired not only their physiques but their mentalities to constantly break their limits and go further beyond. it was always inspiring. I even got the Majin insignia tattooed on my back as a homage.

Re: Did Dragon Ball ever motivate you to exercise?
Definitely, although I also get motivated by stuff like the Rocky films, Batman, and the late Bruce Lee.
When I'm running I usually think of Goku running Snakeway, chasing bubbles or training with Krillin and Roshi in DB. When I'm lifting I think of Goku's gravity training on the way to Namek. I love how Goku's progress was shown during the gravity training, with him starting off at 20x Earth's Gravity and working his way up to 100. It actually felt pretty realistic how he finished his training, got plenty of high protein food, and a good nights sleep in order to let his body be at its best for Namek.
I've also noticed some real life parallels in the Cell saga, with Goku recognising the importance of rest and recovery while Vegeta just pushes on endlessly and fails to keep up because of it. It seems that Toriyama had some knowledge of the effectiveness of different training methods.

I recall mimicking some of Goku's training exercises when I was little. I even tried Master Roshi's training with the turtle shells (albeit with a stuffed backpack).

Nah, i love Dragon Ball, but nothing can motivate me to exercise - i'm a lazy bastard. I don't care, i'm still fabulous as fuck!
Re: Did Dragon Ball ever motivate you to exercise?
I think Dragon Ball definitely contributed to me doing martial arts when I was younger but overall I don't think it motivates me to try and lose weight today

I used to use the Faulconer soundtrack as workout and running music. Does that count?

Re: Did Dragon Ball ever motivate you to exercise?
Anime and video games likes Tekken and Street Fighter inspired me to learn martial arts and weight lifting at the gym.
So yeah I'd definitely say DB inspired me to exercise. I even listen to Super Dragon Soul and Rock the Dragon while working out.
One day I will train in a graity chamber.

No, why would it? It's fiction. The strength of the characters is not possible to reach in reality.

That may be so but many people want to get as close as they can get to emulating the fictional characters they can't help but admire.JulieYBM wrote:No, why would it? It's fiction. The strength of the characters is not possible to reach in reality.
Honestly your whole reply sounds very arrogant and close-minded. Did you not read any of the answers any other uses posted in this thread? Because they tell you why a piece of fiction may motivate one to exercise.

I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.JulieYBM wrote:No, why would it? It's fiction. The strength of the characters is not possible to reach in reality.

This is amazing and I love it.

Dragon Ball is not heavy on any sort of theme, especially in any sort of realistic realm. Being inspired to exercise by it seems like a huge leap in logic.

Re: Did Dragon Ball ever motivate you to exercise?
When I was a fat little kid I used to imagine Goku or Vegeta yelling at me to go train and lose some weight, but most times it just ended up making me depressed as opposed to motivated.
