Tanooki's DBZ: Season 2 Box Set Dissection

Post by Tanooki Kuribo » Thu May 10, 2007 8:04 pm

Well, here it is, the DBZ Season 2 Dissection, 2 weeks before its release...

The back of the box...

Image

The cover of the book... I actually really like that image of Freeza, that should have been on the cover of this set, not Goku.

Image

The begining of the "Hero's" section in the booklet...

The begining of the "Enemies" section in the booklet...

The Ginyu Force profiles...

DVD Menu's...

Q&A:

Q: Is "Cha-La Head Cha-La" the opening for both audio tracks?
A: No, same as season 1

Q: Is the audio for the Ginyu Saga re-dubbed?
A: Eh, depends how you look at it. As of right now it seems like only Vegeta, Krillin and Captain Ginyu were Re-Dubbed...

EDIT: Captain Ginyu Audio Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oo1-M0qTXRw

Q: Does the booklet say what episode is on what disc?
A: Still no.

Q: Is Vegeta's "I'am a friggin genius" line still there, even though his voice was re-dubbed?
A: Yes, its still there.

Also, as of now here is how the side bar image is looking...

So the ONLY voice they redubbed was Vegeta? What was the point of just doing it for one character?

He was the only one who sounded REALLY different.

That's a real shame - I think that Schemmel (spell? don't have reference on hand) sounded real odd as Goku at first.

Thanks, Tanooki. Can't even think of something remotely witty to put down. Looking forward to more about this later then!

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

The mix isn't that much better.. the voices still sound too dominant.

Hearing early Schemmel sounds really weird with current Vegeta. Is Ginyu redubbed like they said?

Tanooki, that image will most likely be the cover for season 3. If they continue with that trend.

:groan: It looks like they completely removed the English and Japanese VA listings for each character in the profiles section. But (as mentioned time and time again) this will probably be the last "Orange Brick" release I'll get, since the other episodes are available in their fullscreen goodness. I also like the saga/season/whataver itself, what with all the clever dragonball hiding :).

Yep, this doesn't look any better than the last. Worse if I may say so. I thought they might have implemented SOME of our ideas, but once again it goes to show that they don't give a fuck.

Yeah, it's redubbed.

Fuckers. It's still 16:9. Well, I passed on Season One, I can pass on this.

Still disappointing but I'll probably buy it just to get those last episodes in Japanese. After that I'm sticking with my complete collection of the single discs. If only they were 4:3

Well, at least the featurettes on the "remastering" process have been removed.

Wait, so not only does the set contain the same main problems that the previous one did, but now only some of the characters are redubbed, the voice actors section is missing from the booklet, and the character bios have been shortened to just one or two measly sentences per person (excluding Freeza and Ginyu)?

Man, FUNimation sure does lose enthusiasm quickly. Anybody want to start guessing what will be missing from Season 3?

*sigh* I was hoping the whole Ginyu Saga was gonna be Re-Dubbed. Early Schemel seems out of character. Sabat needed the re-dub...acctually, Krillin wasn't that bad in the old dub. Don't see why he needed to re-record.

Ginyu was re-dubbed. That sounds like Brice Armstrong to me...let me be sure.

*checks Ginyu Saga disc*

Oh, god yes without a doubt Re-Dubbed.

Oh God it sounds so strange hearing current Vegeta with a Goku from 7 or 8 years ago. >_O

What year did they do the first dub of these episodes in?

Stinks that both english tracks are like that; I was hoping in one everybody would re-record and the other would be the original dub. :(

Ocean group dubbed a majority of the episodes contained within this season set, way back in 97/98? Afterwards, the FUNi dub took over in 2000/2001 I believe. Please correct me if any of the info is wrong. =]

Well, wait, isn't the TV Broadcast Track still with Vegeta, Krillin, and Ginyu from all those years back?

How many years ago...um...let's see, DBZ came to Toonami in 1998 I believe. At this time they aired the Ocean Dub of Seasons 1 & 2. So that means Season 3 was 1999. So 8 years (wow).

Can you please check the ending credits for me? I'm very curious with what they've done there...

Are they all from episode 1 again, or some other random episode? Or are they correct now? (If they're all the same and you're not sure where they're from, just post some "cast" shots and I'll figure out where they're from).
