It's at number 60. Not too bad, dancing Vegeta!

To me, it's the worst of the DB movies. I hate what they did with Vegeta, I hate sjjg transformation, I hate Pilaf Gang appearing for almost half an hour, I hate they changed the nature of saiyans (telling us they were adept to do something as a ritual to transfer powers), and I hate the fact they used a non-born Pan to realize the ritual itself.

Oh, and this movie is in a better position than The Sky Crawlers? Wtf?

The unborn-Pan situation is the only thing that bothered me in the slightest with Battle of Gods. Everything else had spot-on humor and the fight with Beerus was great, at least in my opinion.

Also, considering the Saiyans were an ancient race, to assume that they were always one way and could never have had even a sect of people with different beliefs and rituals doesn't hold much water. That's not too far fetched, unless you just want to believe that all Saiyans for all time were exactly of one mindset.

C'mon, let's not devolve into placement whining :(. Mike's a super dude who knows his stuff and genuinely loves loving anime.

I'm super down with the premise of the new list (which is basically no Miyazaki, Ghibli, Kon, etc.), and it's great to see stuff like Dr. Slump pop up on this recent installment with recognition of its direct call-outs and parodies. This stuff is constantly overlooked, and any little mention is great visibility.

The only problem I have with BoG is the awful CG, it is a fun film, best DB film by far but not favourite (that is RF! :P)

Huh. That's cool. I'm figuring that will probably be the only Dragon Ball film to make the list. And if so, I have no problem with it.

It's the best movie in the franchise so if one should be on the list that's it.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Meh list. I think Area 88 should be rank much higher since it is a great anime film. BOG is a good DBZ movie, but not something I would put on the same level as other great classics. Also Hayao Miyazaki is great, but there are better anime movies out there in my opinion. Movies from Yoshiaki Kawajiiri, Mamoru Oshii, Satoshi Kon, Osamu Dezaki and Katsuhiro Otomo come to mind.

It's the year 2017 and you never watched Beerus' introduction to the series?

It's the year 2017 and I haven't watched any Dragon Ball material that has been made in the last two decades.

I'm honestly not surprised. There are fans here who haven't seen Dragon Ball or GT. Lots of people on are different pages as to where they are in the franchise.

Well done!

The only thing I would recommend you is the 2008 special and, maybe, The Plan to Erradicate Saiyans remake.

Resurrection F is still the superior movie. In many ways too, it does more better than Battle of God's than the other way around.

Care to explain why it is a more superior movie?

1. The movie has a much better soundtrack.

2. While still not great, it does have a better and more focused story than BoG. BoG had a more interesting concept but there wasn't much to it whatsoever.

The whole middle section of the movie is just padding, the subplot with Pilaf was a wasted 10+ minutes in what was already a short movie. Same with the antics like the bingo and stuff all of that could have gone towards developing the main plot.

3. The movie utilised a significantly smaller cast which was a big plus. BoG might have had everyone but most did or said next to nothing like Piccolo who had a few lines. As far as action went it was 90% Goku.

RoF though gave plenty of screentime and dialogue to other characters because there were less of them. Gohan, Krillin, Piccolo, Tien and even Roshi had a major battle scene their first in many years. It was not exclusive to Goku this time.

4. There was a lot more action, I timed it actually.

BoG had 18 minutes of action. RoF had 32 minutes of action.

5. The humour was better. In BoG the humour went more for gag humour whereas this didn't. It was arguably the funnier more in general without having to resort to being overly wacky like Vegeta dancing.

6. It more closely resembled the tone of DBZ. It was darker and more violent, characters died in this, a lot actually with the whole 1,000 army being wiped out. Gohan's heart being stopped, Goku having a hole blasted through him, the Earth blowing up.

BoG was too light which was a common critique for it and this one wasn't.

7. Not the best reason but going by the theatrical cuts RoF was a longer movie. BoG was too short at just 85 minutes whereas RoF was more of an acceptable length at 94 minutes.

Battle of gods is hands down the best dragon ball movie. It combines the humor of dragon ball and the action of z.
